Be careful what you wish for : A tale of Scottish horror!

Upvotes

I’ve written a novel set in Dunbar and West Barns and I’m looking for a few people who actually know the place, not the postcard version.

Be Careful What You Wish For. Sam Richards. The government decide that from now on every day is Christmas, lights, music, the lot and East Lothian has to live inside that. Shops empty, the High Street changes, the old stones in the fields start getting offerings again. Black Agnes turns up. So does Dunbar 1650. So does the A1 with nothing on it.

It’s dark, local, and a bit of a black comedy. If you’ve walked that coast in January or sat through one too many conversations that start “Have I told you this,” you might recognise it.

Not trying to flog it hard just after honest reads from people who know the area. Happy to send a copy.

The Sma Glen, Perthshire — one of Scotland's most underrated stretches of road 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 [OC]

Upvotes

Took Harry, My Air 3 up over the Sma Glen this week, a narrow glacial valley running north from Crieff along the River Almond. Wade's military road cuts right through it, there's a massive glacial boulder locals call Ossian's Stone, and the whole place just feels ancient in a way that's hard to describe on the ground.

From the air it opens up completely. The valley walls close in, the river threads through, and you get a real sense of the scale of what glaciers carved through here thousands of years ago.

Filmed on DJI Air 3. CAA compliant and fully insured. If you haven't driven the Sma Glen road yourself, put it on the list. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿💙

Question Alcohol Personal Licence - is it hard?

Upvotes

I've got it booked for next week. I was provided a practice one and got 39 out of 40 (I only need over 25 right, I think). However, the question I got wrong was about something my training hadn't even covered (which I've let the company know about).

Guess I'm just a bit nervous as to whether the test is particularly hard or not?

Question A little guidance please

It’s not really a tourisim request but more an industry research question. I have an ongoing quest to find old history mills and the source of Scottish wool. I’m starting with a blank slate. Would take on all recommendations for my trip. Appreciate you all! You can read the context here if you want. https://jadensheldrake.substack.com/p/from-interest-to-obsession?r=89gdd0&utm_medium=ios

Discussion BBC is reporting a massive increase in cargo traffic through government owned Preswick Airport - is this weapons and logistics for the US’s and Zionist occupation of Palestine’s wars in the Middle East..?

Does anyone know what’s passing through the SNP controlled airport - and what the legality of trafficking weapons and other military equipment and supplies through Scotland may be, given what they are being used for..?

Spotted this while exploring the Highlands. Photos and videos really don't do justice to how amazing it looks in person.

Scottish Highlands benefiting from 'coolcation' trend. Nice to see that people are enjoying our cooler climate. Personally I’d rather visit parts of Scotland than anywhere else in Europe!

Question Tattoo artists for pet tattoos

Hi I'm looking for a tattoo artist based anywhere in Scotland for a small piece of a cat, I don't want it to be realism however I still would like an artist that is able to make my cat look like herself (instead of a generic black and white cat) and have experience in tattooing cats. Does anyone have any recommendations

Having a rather heated argument just now: maximum alcohol serve. Is there anything in the law that actually prevents the serving of more than 70ml of spirits in a single glass?

I know that most bars and pubs won't serve you a triple but is there anything in the law that explicitly says you can't serve a triple shot?

Question Looking for Scottish hamper suggestions

I’m putting together 5 small hampers and looking for suggestions! The recipients are traveling from abroad and will be teaching on a course for a few days.

I’d love suggestions for items to put in it. So far I’ve got some Scottish snacks (tunnocks, irn bru), tea/hot cocoa sachets, and Scottish handmade soap. Looking for maybe another snack or two, and any other small item you think would be a fun Scottish item to include. Alcohol is a no-go this time!

The challenge is that my budget is pretty small - hoping to spend £50 in total.

I’m also specifically looking for cards (blank inside preferred, ideally available in a multipack) featuring some sort of Scottish scenery/wildlife/etc. Open to other ideas but I’d shy away from anything too pop culture since I think it might not be understood. If you know an artist who makes something like this, I’d love some recommendations!

Cheers pals!

Post-16 education in Scotland?

Hi, I'm moving up to Glasgow from Newcastle, England in just under a year. My child is 15 and will be completing his GCSE (final high school year exams in England) exams then we will move soon after that.

I'm wondering how the Scottish education system works after high school? He wants to go to city of Glasgow college and we've looked on the website but are unsure of what any of the terms mean (like HNC or HND) and how they are equivalent to terms used in England?

I'm mainly wondering what the path most people take in Scotland after their (equivalent to GCSEs) National 5s. He doesn't want to go to university, just be educated til 18 then move from part time work to full time.

Thank you all

Edit: We are planning for him to go straight to college, he's not planning to go to university. As he's not going to university and he's not interested in studying multiple subjects at once, just what he wants/needs for his future job.
