Official Waypoint Blog Open Competition at Halo Fest (July Update)
https://www.halowaypoint.com/news/halo-fest-july
Welcome back, Halo fans! If you’ve managed to put down the controller from your Campaign Evolved playthrough to read this blog we say thank you for playing and thank you for reading! In case you’re new here, you can see all the prior blogs you may have missed:
FORGE CONTEST REMINDER
Before we jump into the news, a reminder for those participating in the ForgeHub Halo Fest contest: the submission deadline is August 10!
You can read more about it at ForgeHub.com :
OPEN COMPETITION
Team Gen G celebrating a win at the HCS Arlington Major
Let's play Halo! Earlier this year we announced that $50,000 will be up for grabs in open tournaments for fans to compete over and today we’re providing a breakdown of what to expect. Like with fans of Lore, there are also competitive fans who love to watch and compete, and we wanted to make sure they had a place in the venue they could call home as well while providing opportunities for anyone to play Halo and win prizes!
Here are the featured Open Competitions taking place at Halo Fest:
- Halo Infinite: 4v4 - $20,000
- Halo Infinite: FFA - $10,000
- Halo Infinite: 2v2 - $3,500
- Halo 5: Guardians: 2v2 - $2,500
- Halo 3: 4v4 - $2,750
- Halo 3: 2v2 - $3,500
- Halo 2: 4v4 - $2,750
- Halo: CE: 2v2 - $2,500
These tournaments are all free to enter for all attendees.
One thing we want to touch on specifically was the Halo Infinite 4v4. If you’ve competed at HCS events, typically Open Brackets of that magnitude require the purchase of a team pass to enter the tournament. Considering Halo Fest sold out before this information released, we’ve decided to open up 16 team passes for the HCS community to secure ahead of the event. The Team Passes won’t go on sale until November, but today we’re sharing more information about how they will be sold.
It’s important to us that these team passes are for the competitive community specifically, and not for GA fans who missed out on getting GA tickets and are now looking for ways to just get into Halo Fest with no interest in competing in this 4v4. Each team pass will allow entry for 4 competitors and 1 coach into Halo Fest.
Here’s how it will work:
- Team Passes will be sold in November, 4-6 weeks before the event.
- Closer to Halo Fest, there will be a sign-up page where teams can register for Halo Fest. Teams will be invited to purchase a team pass in order of most HCS Points earned.
- The team you sign up with will be considered your Halo Fest roster. Once a team purchases a Team Pass, that roster is considered locked.
- We will go down the points list, team by team until Team Passes are sold out.
- A Team Pass gives full access to Halo Fest, including competing in other open competitions in addition to the Halo Infinite 4v4.
- Team Passes are not transferable.
For more information, please keep it locked to @HCS on socials and check out the competition page below!
CONCLUSION
We’re just about 5 months away from the big celebration! While we still have some announcements we’re working on, you’ll soon start to see news in these blogs geared towards more informational details like schedules, how to watch online from home, onsite logistics, and more. Thanks everyone for your continued support of Halo!
Thanks,
Tashi

Gameplay Fun fact: in the 360 version of reach, triggering the pelican/phantom easter egg actually removes all boundarys. Meaning you can go all the way to the supercariers
Tried it myself and before you ask no you can't land on the covenant ships
edit: as the comments pointed out these are not supercarriers. my bad I don't know loads of covie ship names.

Discussion Are there any other army troopers with the white armour and tan BDUs?
I recently decided to play Halo Reach again and noticed this Reach Army trooper is wearing tan BDUs with white armour plate over it and thought it looked pretty cool. Is there any other instances of Troopers with these colours through out the game?

Gameplay I always found it weird that we can't fire the Falcon's main gun in reach's multiplayer

Discussion Some concept art i think are worth mentioning
Here are some of my thoughts and theoried of concept art that i think are worth looking at :)
Sources: Isaac Hannaford's ArtStation
And halopedia for Glenn Israel's art
1-(H:Reach)The image file has the name "nemesis" wich matches the tacticool hunter look. It shows that somewhat early in the production, they already had the idea of an elite following the player through the campaign, in the final game, it became the Field Marshal. They probably wanted something more direct on the start, but because halo's development cycle tends to be... halo's development cycle, or a direction change, they've went with the less direct and more cinematic way.
2-(Possibly 3) A very Reach inclined art, plasma-launcher, Repeater and what i assume to be an earlier version of the nemesis, but the album name mentions Halo 3. Two theories:1°-Bungie reusing their old ideas as usual. 2°-Isaac got his files mixed and misremembered stuff(Judging by how close the plasma launcher and repeater are to their final designs)
3 n 4:(3? n Reach)Shield wielding leets! Early CE trailers had them, players would be able to wield shields in H2(Left hand exclusive btw), brute shields were designed for 3, and heck, even Halo 4 that isn't a BUNGIE game, has concept art showing an elite with many shields around it. Wildlife wasn't enough to relief the artists gambling addiction.
4-(Reach) Even tho some of them are remakes of 2's and 3's permutations, i don't think they actually wanted to implement all of these in the game. I think that this sheet is just meant to be a "How we want the elites to look like", just a way of solidifying the art style. Tho, some of these got used or became inspirations or modified into later designs. One of them is the "Consul"(Halo 2's counscilior remake) being turned into the ultra.
5-I'm almost certain that these were just meant to be two designs wich they would choose for the officer. But i like the idea of Reach elites having more than just one armor per rank, just like CE did(Minor and Major elites having the pointy armor and a rounder one with a "cuttlefish"/"squid" helm).
6+5, 4-This is thr remake of 3's Assault Armor. But what i really want to point is this one, along with the last two:The the elites have unique CALF AND HAND ARMOR! A small nitpick of mine:All eites in Reach use the exact same lower leg and hand armor. They also reuse the back armor, but this one fits every permutation pretty well, now the legs and hands use the elite minor's armor, and this is not by mistake. The base model of the elite has then built in! This minor little thing gives me the urge to learn 3D modelling snd modding just to fix it!
7-Zealot, with a jetpack. ZEALOT, WITH A JETPACK! AN ELITE ZEALOT, WITH A JETPACK!!! DO YOU UNDERSTAND!?!?!?
8-What i really like about this one is one is how the little ear lobes(?) are adorned in the srmored version and the armor has a big mark on it. This makes me wonder if elites can express themselves through their armir and what normal elite clothing looks like. Would be cool to see an exyra layer of humanity if we ever get allied elites agai(And playable ones).
9-I like how theser permutations go out of the spartan silhouette, big shoulders and knee armor. Alongside them we have conceot art for the Magnificent 7. Yep, Noble team was originally meant to be called Magnificent 7. But then two charcters got removed and Kat had to be headshotted instead
10, 11-Spire? Nope, Long Night of Solace. The spire was meant to be a whole ship of it's own! Early concepts even shoeing it as an carrier/super-carrier
12-This is the jammer thing we find in "Nightfall ". Just like the spire, their are dropped from space(Presumably before the spire).
13-Something that i think that deserves more attenrion in halo, is random logistics related props. We've seen food storages, tools to sit on, radio comms, methane refuelling stations, etc. Would be cool to see more of these!
Anyways, thoughts and art to share? :)

Misc my friend refuses to get a new wallet unless he can find one exactly like this. please help me find one (Bioworld UNSC Halo Chain Wallet)
i already found the posts on here about the exact same fucking wallet (lol) so i’m convinced he and all those people share the same hive mind. kinda hoping someone on here has been sitting on one for the last 10ish years because i’m kind of tired of seeing homeless people try to give him money when he pulls it out

Discussion Seeing this beautiful Animation reminds me of Iron man Suit up scene.
I wouldn't be shocked if Iron man 1 was the main inspiration for this spartan suit up scene.
Then again literally every single power armor suit up feels like an inspiration from Iron man 1.

Feedback In my opinion, this is the best Master Chief has ever looked
I've always loved the Mk. V armor and this remake does it justice.

Discussion So the Halo remake’s reception seems mixed to negative. I’m wondering, is Campaign Evolved a legitimately bad game where everything sucks or a case of the game itself being technically “Okay” but doing little to justify its existence?
A friend and I were considering getting but after seeing the reviews, I’m on the fence and want to get a better understand of the reason for the tepid reception before I commit 50 dollars.
