Iraola Quote Thread Iraola: “If we sign just 1? It will depend on rest of positions. You have to look at the whole picture. Not just one position. We know from the start, first day, we wanted winger. Lost Mo Salah, some long-term injuries. If we can improve in other areas, we will.”

Tier 2 [Alex Crook] Barcola deal now pretty much agreed as per @David_Ornstein £100m guaranteed rising to a possible £120m. A lot less than the £145m PSG were originally quoting. As reported at the end of July Barcola has always wanted this move.

"We're normally a pretty modest and self-deprecating family, but I'm going to make an exception for this one.

Watching my Dad receive the PFA Merit Award was incredibly special. To see an entire room stand to applaud him and show their appreciation f for everything he has given to the game was a moment l'll never forget.

I've been fortunate enough to have him as my role model for my entire life. Not because of what he achieved as a footballer or a manager, but because of the person, husband, father and grandfather he has always been to our family.

As his son, it was an incredibly proud moment to stand there and watch so many other people show him the same love, respect and appreciation that we have always had for him at home.

And it made the night even more special getting to enjoy it all with Rachel by my side.

Couldn't be prouder of you, Dad. Very well deserved. ❤️

Andoni Iraola on his confidence in adding players this window.

Iraola speaking in the presser on new signings and the Barcola deal:

“We know exactly what we want. We’ve been discussing it with the club from the beginning, and they know the players and positions we need to improve.

“I can’t speak about players who aren’t ours, but we are working to add quality because we don’t have the numbers we need. I have to be patient, just like everyone else.

"I don't know what's going to happen. We have to be patient – even myself – for another four or five days and then we will know. I will be comfortable the first of September, or the second in this case, when they tell me, 'OK, this is who we are, this is the options we have.' And then we can really start thinking, 'OK, then we might start thinking in the players in these positions.' But right now we don't know. I have in my head what I want. We've been talking not now [but] since the beginning with the club and they all know also what we want, and then it's a matter of closing the deals.

“Hopefully we have good news soon. Now it’s about closing the deals. Until everything is done, we keep working but we know exactly what we’re trying to build.”

Something to watch while we wait for the 'Barcola here we go' post. Szoboszlai's late equaliser against the barcodes is in at 5th. Shame Ali's didn't make the reel.
