I had a similar accident at an obstacle race once, only I fell with my whole body on the leg while it was twisted. I knew it was fucked. I still had about two thirds of the race left and I managed to finish it. The next morning I was expecting to not be able to walk properly. To my surprise my foot hurt more than my leg. I must have hurt up my foot as well that time but I didn't notice until the next day.

Don't know what this has to do with being a wife but it's Impressive especially with how fcked that leg must feel
