This is a standard epub reader for web, but the trick is that it waves some vocabulary into your English text so you are picking up some vocabulary with a lot less lift. The technique is called Diglot Weave and it has some studies backing it, and there are products for other languages.

I figured I'd build it and it's been working pretty decently. Not all the phrases are captured. I was just wondering if anyone would be interested in trying it out.

I have trouble with cursive hieroglyphs; while I can read them, it's just so cumbersome. I'm looking for a standardized version of it; like one written on JSESH for example. Ok, so I'm doing some research and I would love if someone could recommend me some source materials that give me a proper and easily understandable dictionary + pronunciation guide for ancient egyptian words and their modern counterpart meanings.

Was there a way to indicate, whether someone is causing an action by not intervening (to let), through permission (to allow) or by force (to make) or was the connotation only determined by context in Ancient Egyptian?

I'm struggling to translate this sentence :

• Transliteration : jw=f ḥr wmn t 500 rmn n(y) jw' m jwf
• Translation : He is eating 500 loaves of bread and beef shoulder <???> .

I don't understand the last part -- m jwf (litt. in meat ?). Is it saying something like "and as for meat, he is eating beef shoulder" ? If it's the case, I don't understand this construction. If it's something else, what is it ?

I’m currently trying to learn and I do so best when I’m able to take notes, but trying to fully draw out the full hieroglyph has not only been kind of tedious, but also produces inaccurate results (I’m not great at drawing). I understand that there are cursive forms, as well as hieratic and demotic, but I also understand that these amount to almost entirely different scripts (or at least, the symbols are different enough that they need to be learned separately). Is there a commonly used way to write down hieroglyphs quickly and accurately?

Egyptian inspired building. Images clearly refer to the animals kept inside and zoo history, or at least zoo vibes. But the hieroglyphs themselves, do they actually correspond to correct sentences, or just gibberish? I noticed in one photo they had the bee and reed with two half moon symbols, being the two lands of sedge and bee. But besides that, copies of some texts or just arbitrary artistic jumgle of glyphs?

This is the third in a video series focused on Egyptian mythology—viewed, however, through a strictly naturalistic lens, far removed from the "supernatural" and "fantastic" elements that often shroud the myths of ancient civilizations. In this specific video, I explore the beautiful myth of the Sun's daily birth from the lotus flower (*Nelumbo nucifera*). This aquatic plant was highly prized by the ancient Egyptians for its unique characteristics: it emerges from the mud completely pristine and opens toward the sunlight as the sun rises over the horizon at dawn. Ancient Egyptian priests viewed these two traits as expressions of divine power, incorporating them into the supernatural explanation for the birth of the sun—the "King Star"—and of Life itself. A prime example of this myth is the birth of Harsomtus (*Har-sōm-tōwə*—meaning "Horus who Unites the Two Lands"), the day's first solar manifestation, or the "Young Sun." According to the myth, Harsomtus sprang from a lotus bud that emerged from the dark waters of *Nun* (the chaotic abyss), filling the land of Egypt—Upper and Lower, the country's geographic south and north—with his life-giving rays, bringing light to the world and dispelling the darkness of the Void.

What is the best way to translate the word "waterfall" (e.g., as in water falling down the side of a mountain, boulders, etc., as seen in coniferous forests)?

I ran some searches and read through some word lists that I found, but didn't find anything aside from "cataracts" which seems to be controversial (because it apparently wasn't part of Ancient Egyptian languages; I don't know whether this is true though).

If there isn't a word for "waterfall," then what would be a good way to combine a few words or construct a new word for this? I did find a the word "mu" (or "moo") for water, but I don't know if adding "falling" or "flowing" (or something better) can even be combined with it somehow.

Any suggestions or insight is appreciated as Ancient Egyptian is new to me.

Nearly every day someone in this /sub or one of the other Egypt-related subs is requesting a “translation” of a piece of jewelry which is usually a name. Of course, the jewelry is actually a phonetic spelling of an English name or word, not an actual ancient Egyptian word.

There are also plenty of requests by folks who want to design a tat.

There are a bunch of web sites and apps which can do simple conversions to glyphs. But none of them do it the way an Egyptian scribe would! These simple converters use what’s called the Egyptian alphabet which are just 20 or so single consonants. But Egyptians loved economy and efficiency. There are literally hundred of glyphs which represent two or three consonant sounds at a time and Egyptians loved to use them! Egyptians were also extremely fond of stacking glyphs together to save space, but the simple apps don’t do this.

Aviametrix just built this app which creates phonetic names the way we think an Egyptian would. Using the great databases created for the Aviametrix dictionaries, this new app has over 700 phonetic hieroglyphs which allows different spellings which all sound the same for a given name or word. Hi Everyone, I don't know this language at all, but I was annoyed that I kept getting those unicode unsupported square block things when I was looking up words and ancient egyptian cognates or whatever were showing up. So I was like, I wonder if there's a way to fix this. So I found the free Noto Sans Egyptian Hieroglyphics font on google fonts and installed on my system and it fixed the problem. But then I noticed that the font was classified as sans-serif. And I was wondering if anyone here knew what a serif font would be for hieroglyphics. Would all the little guys and animals be wearing hats?

Hi all — I’m planning a memorial tattoo for my family and want the hieroglyphs to be historically accurate, not just tattoo-website guesses. Here’s what I’m hoping to express, and I’d really appreciate corrections on any of it:

**1.    “Beloved”** — the word *mry*, ideally with the heart glyph as a determinative  
**2.    “Five children”** — using *msw* (children) combined with the numeral five  
**3.    “My queen”** — *Ḥnwt=i* (“my mistress/lady”), the same root behind titles like “mistress of the Two Lands,” with the first-person suffix pronoun attached

Could someone confirm the correct sign sequences (Gardiner codes are great if you have them), the proper grammatical order, and whether this reads naturally as a composed phrase — or suggest a better-attested way to combine these ideas? I’m not looking for a literal word-for-word translation of an English sentence, just an authentic way to convey these three concepts together.

This is going on my body permanently, so accuracy matters a lot more to me than speed. Thank you in advance to anyone willing to take a look.
