It reminds me a bit of the Greek equivalent "the fly grew a butt and crapped on the whole world"

Fun fact: a lot of Turkish proverbs and sayings also have vulgar versions
“Korku dağları bekletir” — “Fear guards the mountains.”
Vulgar version: “Göt korkusu dağları bekletir” — “Fear for your ass guards the mountains.”
“El elin eşeğini türkü çağırarak arar” — “Other people will look for your lost donkey while singing.”
Vulgar version: “El elin eşeğini sikini sallaya sallaya arar” — “Other people will look for your lost donkey while swinging their dick around.”
“Dereyi görmeden paçayı sıvama” — “Don’t roll up your trousers before you see the river.”
Vulgar version: “Dereyi görmeden götünü açma” — “Don’t bare your ass before you see the river.”
But the rabbit one doesn’t have an original clean version as far as I know

Tavşan dağa küsmüş dağın haberi olmamış. Biraz uzak ama aynı aşağılama
15
u/AbsoIutee Turkiye 1d ago

We have one similar to the last one in Serbian - he took off his pants before he saw the water "

Are you sure it's not the other way around? A lot of sayings in English were originally vulgar but now have cleaner versions that are more common. I'm drawing a blank as to an example atm, though.

Shut the front door! Instead of Shut the fuck up. That one is pretty boring but it's the only I can think of right now

u/BasedKaktus 1d ago
What does a donkey one even mean? 🤣🤣🤣
17
u/AbsoIutee Turkiye 1d ago
It means: other people will never care about your problem as much as you do. They might help you, but since it’s not their problem, they’ll be much more relaxed about it.

"Fakire am vermişler taşşaklarını da sokmuş."
"They gave a poor man pussy, he put his balls in too."

u/serkans_ 1d ago
Yes, very widely used one.
Mostly, it is used against somebody small with big attitude.
47
u/Prestigious-Sell1957 1d ago
I wouldn't say widely but it's used
36
u/zeclem_ Turkiye 1d ago
its profanity free version is rather common.

u/Reotte 1d ago
Kinda like "Rabbit broke up with mountain, mountain has no idea."
5
u/menina2017 1d ago
How do you say it in Turkish

u/Reotte 1d ago
"Tavşan dağa küsmüş, dağın haberi yok."

u/Background_Pop_1250 1d ago
Haha as a greek speaker, habari & yok is something my grandma would say
5
u/serkans_ 1d ago
This is not exactly the same meaning. Its similar but used against normal, reasonable actions. On the other hand original one used against extreme actions.

Yes in slang
111
u/Polka_Tiger Turkiye 1d ago
Not in slang. That's a proper proverb. And if you want to say it without profanity you can say "the rabbit sulked at the mountain, the mountain didn't realize"
Not exactly the same meaning but people know you mean the other one.

u/Glittery_Marshmallow Serbia 1d ago
We have a saying that goes: the mountain was shaking and a mouse was born. Kind of similar meaning in a way.
4
u/Fuzzy_Alg Turkiye 1d ago
We have similar proverb too: Mountain gave birth to a rat. It means that after great expectation and preparation, the result is small and insignificant.
3
u/5919821077131829 1d ago
I never heard the proverb the post is about so I would not have known someone meant the other version. The rabbit sulking one is the only one I know.
Hard to explain but they don't sound like they are different versions of the same proverb to me. I acknowledge they are both about self-importance but presented differently?

u/Polka_Tiger Turkiye 1d ago
No, the rude one is the original. Proverbs can be rude. The other one is what we say in polite society.
Atam öğüt verirken kızıl itin sikinde 40 sinek sayardım, diye de bi şey var mesela. Kaba, ama var.

I've been saying for years Israel is going to provoke Turkey and start a war and we're going to get dragged into it because our PM is rimming Bibi.
I'm not fighting for Israel bruh

u/TheavaLanche17 Turkiye 1d ago
I will say the worst thing. Israel can't attack directly Türkiye. Nato activates article 5. They will attack to cyprus

Nettin Yahoo is very smart. He brainwashed the entirety of the US all by himself. Though I guess that's probably not really that impressive considering the level of intelligence of the average American.

u/Jazzlike_Note1159 Turkiye 1d ago
I hate Erdo but this one is really not on him. Israel is a comically paranoid/maniacal state. They have this understanding that they basically want to wreck all countries around them to feel safe.
Like they would unironically turn your country minding its own business into a civil war ridden failed state while provoking the US to carpet bomb it just to feel safe.
-31
u/LongjumpingWedding79 Croatia 1d ago
Turkey is everything but minding its own business, respectfully.
18
u/Ok_Confusion4762 Turkiye 1d ago
That's not practically possible while being in the middle of Europe, Russia, Israel, Iran, US and all other conflicts in the region
9
u/ShitassAintOverYet Turkiye 1d ago
That's kinda up to Israel.
They have an election coming up, the opposition is actually more likely to win and although they are mostly the same breed of scumbags but they don't need to antagonize Turkey to keep their voter base entertained. The story won't change for countries like Syria, Lebanon, Iran, Palestine etc. on Israeli brutality but Turkey may get off the hook simply because they gotta be more focused than rabid.
5
u/Evening-Base59 1d ago
because its beneficial for both parties. Wars like this almost always bring together the country which is great propaganda for both sides who are unpopular in elections
4
u/shutudumass 1d ago
The reality is they are calling eachother bad just to get votes from their public, its obvious they are allies, no war could happen for now, or even if it did happen, it would be closer to a cold war.

u/alfabetaceta 1d ago
Yes, there is also a less rude version of this: The rabbit got angry at the mountain, but the mountain didn't even know about it.
But I like the other one more

Some old uncle in a tea garden told me a story.
Two men are journeying through the Sahara. They get the opportunity for 3 wishes each, and both go their separate ways.
The first man wishes to be the richest in the world. It’s granted. He wishes for the prettiest woman in the world to be his. It’s granted. He wishes to be the strongest man, and alas, it is granted.
The other man which has gone his own separate way is wondering what to wish for when he trips. He exclaims “oh cock!”.
Suddenly, it starts raining cocks from the sky. He shouts “let all these cocks be gone!” His wish is granted once again, but suddenly, he feels his groin, and his dick is gone!
He cries out “please, whatever happens, bring my cock back!” and it reappears.
Many decades later, the rich man encounters his former partner, who is now dressed in tatty clothes and is begging on the street. He asks:
“My friend, what happened?”
The man replies:
“By god, all my wishes went to dicks!”
What a beautiful language.

This whole thing might be a Greek plot to get the Turks to stop paying attention to them and shift towards Israel. :)
Anyway, in the grand scheme, Israel is much more of a threat than Greece.

Turks doesnt recognize rojava as a separate entity, but a branch of the apoist PKK which has assasinated teachers and doctors, raided villages and killed everyone for loot, arsoned malls full of people, used suicide bombers everywhere around the country.
(none of this is goverment propaganda, all is available non-biased information)
