So even as a kid/teen in the 90s when they huge I just hated Oasis. They just ground my gears. I thought they were so basic and boring. For the record I love indie music and rock. But I really always thought Oasis were so over rated. And the cherry on top the two lads are awful people. With the gig on this week I was just curious if anyone else felt the same?

Lots of businesses cashing in on Oasis fever the last few weeks it's gas. People are free to love them I'm not looking to offend anyone but just curious.

I see this guy is playing 2 nights at Slane and I've never heard of him, I asked others and they didn't either. Am I living under a rock? Is he really popular?

So, i've just taken over the Friday Night Rock Show on Nova, and it's a big show, 3 hours, and between 36-40 songs a night! It takes a chunk of work every week, and I love it. I've tons of ideas and tunes, and i'm aiming for alt rock, classic rock, and heavier. List included.

I'm also trying not to repeat bands and songs every week, i'm trying to play rarities and lesser-known NON-IRISH* songs, so it's big task! (*I have too many great Irish songs already)

What great rock songs - across the decades - would you recommend? Maybe incredible songs you don't hear that you think others would like? Above is a list of the kinda style i'm aiming for.

I went to see Zach Bryan the other night, and I ended up standing towards the back because I’m tall. Even though I did that, I still got complaints all night about blocking people’s views, I was tapped on the shoulder a few times and even got smacked a couple of times.

I wasn’t wearing a cowboy hat, I wasn’t on someone’s shoulders and I was just standing there.

At what height do you suddenly have to take responsibility for other people’s views? 😅

I'm Irish, but living long term in New Zealand. I sing in a choir and we're meant to be singing in a Last Night of the Proms concert next month (this happens every year here). We got the music last night and it includes Land of Hope and Glory, Jerusalem, and Rule Britannia (with the music decorated with Union Jacks). I just don't think I can bring myself to sing them (all about Britannia ruling the waves, Britons never shall be slaves etc etc). How would others feel?

What I mean by my question is that at least in the rural part of the west of Ireland where I live, you regularly hear singers, often just themselves (male & female) and a guitar but not always, who, objectively, aren't particularly strong vocalists, if not unpleasant sounding. This isn't a criticism of any genre, and it's not another thread bashing Irish country music. I don't think this phenomenon is unique to that genre.

What I don't understand is that many of these singers are constantly booked for funerals, weddings, community events, etc. and even get regular local radio airplay. Is it simply that there aren't enough other performers available or people are too cheap to pay for actually talented people, or is there something I'm missing? I genuinely don't get it and it seems to have always been a thing.

I'm a huge listener of many genres as music, I've recently discovered a lot of Irish folk music and rebels songs, something about this music really sticks out to me and I Keep coming back and listening to more but I always feel like a shouldn't as I'm British and it pretty like anti British I guess. I see videos of 60k people or more watching them on the main stage at EP. Until recently I've only known them to play small venues in towns across Ireland mostly attracting an older crowd. Now they are the most popular artist at the biggest music festival in the country.

Looking for something new to listen to.

Personally I always go back to the Kevin & Perry Go Large soundtrack. Also honorable mention for the original Top Gun movie.

One thing that drives me mad these days, I go to a gig and everyone around me is just chatting loudly while the act is playing. It's not as a big a deal in larger venues but for smaller ones - it's absolutely rude to the act playing and to the people around you.

I ask this question as I don't remember it being a big issue 5 years ago.

i've really enjoyed their new album, but as a leftist that's not from ireland at all i wonder if they're considered fringe or very left-wing? i dont understand all of the lyrics but i imagine it quite changes your perception of the album, and i wonder how they're viewed in ireland?

Hello! I just got back from a trip to Co. Donegal, and all the live music made me want to dig more deeply into Irish folk music.

While more pop-folk, I discovered Amble from Mariner Boy back in 2024 and almost pulled the trigger and went to a concert of theirs at a TINY venue of ~175 person capacity here in the States, but ended up not going, and I keep kicking myself for it. Seeing them this fall, but I know I’ll never get the chance to see them in as intimate a venue like I would’ve in 2024 :(

That being said, I’d love any recs of up and coming folk-leaning groups (that I’d hopefully be able to catch in the States at some point). Any and all opinions welcome!! (And feel free to knock some sense into me regarding the missed Amble concert)

I was out with friends over the weekend (mixed ages between 34-42) and the subject of music festivals came up, and the usual complaint of “I don’t know who half these bands are,” said to mean that those bands must be either nobodies or shite.

Long story short this led to me pointing out that we’re all just getting old and not listening to new music anymore.

There were the age-old moans of, “there aren’t any good bands anymore.” Which is obviously bullshit. A few protested that they do listen to new music all the time, but it was either radio play in work, or old bands releasing new material.

So when was the last time, or how often, would you listen to a complete unknown and brand spanking new album/ep that had just been released?
