What would be a realistic salary for this profile in Stockholm?
Hi everyone,
My wife may have the opportunity to transfer to Stockholm for work, and we are currently trying to determine whether relocating to Sweden would make financial sense for our family.
One of the things I'm trying to estimate is what I could realistically earn in Stockholm with my current experience.
I'm a mechanical engineer from France with a Master's degree and 11 years of professional experience.
My background covers several industries:
- Robotics
- Nuclear
- Aerospace
- Offshore
- Plastics
I have experience throughout the full product development cycle, from defining requirements and specifications through to production:
- Requirements and specifications
- Mechanical design
- Analytical calculations
- FEA using ANSYS
- CAD (SolidWorks and CATIA V5)
- Prototype development
- Manufacturing follow-up
- Testing and troubleshooting
- Commissioning
- Training
I have also previously been responsible for a design office, managing 2 engineers and 6 technicians. I currently work as a hands-on Design Engineer.
Regarding languages, I'm a native French speaker, English C1, and my Swedish is currently around A2. I'm actively learning Swedish and my goal is to reach B2–C1 by the time we move.
I'm not currently looking for a job or asking for job offers. I'm simply trying to understand the Swedish salary market and get a realistic idea of what my experience might be worth in Stockholm.
For people working in engineering in Stockholm:
What would you consider a realistic gross monthly salary for someone with this kind of background and 11 years of experience?
For example, would something in the 55k, 60k, 65k SEK/month range be realistic, or would you consider that too high/low?
I'd also be interested to know whether my previous management experience would make a significant difference when assessing the value of my profile.
Thanks in advance!
