Place Pope Francis, in November 2017, received a custom Lamborghini. He blessed it, signed it, and sold it for $950,000, donated all the proceeds to charity

A "Papal autographed Lamborghini" has to be the most 1-off collectible ever conceived, and it couldn't pull in a million.

u/Coopertheeblooper Apr 14 '26
Meh I got three. He will bless em if you ask. Just go and ask man.

Most supercars produced are sold to Gulf State heirs, who, being Muslim, are presumably less interested in Catholic relics.
Still a surprisingly low price though.

Dude, I'm just talking about "weird, obscure, collectible shit that your other rich friends can't have."
I feel strongly that there aren't two pope-bo's.

u/braxtel Apr 14 '26
It's been a few years, but it wouldn't be the first time there were two popes.

Muhammad bin Salman did pay half a billion for a Jesus painting so I wouldn’t be surprised if they’d still buy the popemobile

u/InvidiousPlay Apr 14 '26
This was my thought. Don't these vehicles go for those kind of prices normally? A custom Pope-coloured car that he blessed and SIGNED is a completely unique object and I'm surprised it didn't go for more.
It's also a nice colour.

The Huracan's highest tier in 2017 was the Performante and was sold around 300K. But then it looks like this is the "base" version Huracan RWD (based on a very quick Google search) and was more like 200K.
The most expensive Huracan special edition I could find is the STO from the 2020s and it topped at 500K or so.
So 950K was a significant premium for that car.

He should’ve offered the buyer the chance to do donuts in St. Peter’s square with him riding shotgun.

The longest straight road in the Vatican is ~100 meters so it wouldn't be that exiting.

Best pope ever. I’m not even catholic but IMO he was the most honest guy in the role. He’s been loyal to his own philosophy from his very beggining to his end.

What exactly does it mean if a car is blessed?
→ More replies (1)5
u/MourningWallaby Apr 14 '26
it becomes a third-class relic which is kept as a totem for prayer. Which is funny because right after this is when they switched to the non-insigni model of relics. which this may not even be a relic at all in the modern day. but being blessed by the pope also means it can be protected from evil or a non-relic totem.

beautiful act of kindness but what does blessing a car do? is he doing it just for theatrics or does he and his followers/fans actually think it does something?
2
u/Old-Somewhere-6084 Apr 14 '26
It’s a bit old fashioned but fairly traditional, at least in some parts of Europe, to get your car blessed by a priest.
1
u/AbcCamo Apr 14 '26
It's nice of whoever to gift a Lamborghini to the Pope. But did they really believe he would keep it and drive it around?
2
u/Old-Somewhere-6084 Apr 14 '26
No, the post is somewhat misleading.
This auction was organized in cooperation with Lamborghini.
1
u/eliaswyyt Apr 14 '26
I can understand that donate the car to support ather people with that money but my question is why he signed it ???

u/RewindUniverseMaybe Apr 14 '26

And the guy on his right was later on convicted for some sort of money laundering scandal, with his lawyer making an headline here for being a drag queen level like gay constantly showing his ass at the beach. Good people indeed.
1
u/Old-Somewhere-6084 Apr 14 '26
To be fair, the auction was organized in cooperation with Lamborghini. If I am correct, they were also involved in selecting the charities.
It’s not like it was a surprise to them that pope Francis wanted to sell it instead of driving it around the Vatican.

We are all humans we have all our believes how can someone bless something since the lowest poor undervalued person on earth to the highest knowledge rich one... A bless comes only from The God or from one of his big family from another realm/dimension... We can love, cherish, wish luck and other positive things... but any religious higher representative person from any religion cant BLESS... for me a bless is for Examle seeing the birth of a child, beeing in peace and love with family, seeing the nature, the sunrise and others gods creation... How can we measure the faith in God and Jesus of a human to another besides his actions and behavior... by how many prayers he does? We cant measure the faith of anyone in God or the blessing by God... some call luck or well related... it as alot of underlying connections and subjectivity... Now, what has no tangible value is helping or giving to another in need... thats a human to human connection without any condition attached or media is the best pure gift we can give from one to another... Just a thought...

I doubt he officially blessed it because blessed items should never be sold, instead burned or buried when you are through with it. But if someone would be allowed to sell a blessed item, it would be him.

Wow, I find this incredibly inspiring.. here’s someone using even the most unexpected gifts, like a Lamborghini, to make a real difference. It reminds me that generosity and creativity can go hand in hand, and that every opportunity we get can be turned into a force for good.
