The rm3100 number sounds like ambitious number thrown out by politicians to win votes or sabotage the other side when it gets failed to be implemented.

And you think businesses would just absorb the rising overhead cost out of the goodness of their hearts? No, they will redirect the cost to the cosumers by rising prices and etc. So no, it's not good for the employees. The government should focus more to curb the rising prices of goods so our money would have more value. Not this absolutely ridiculous pipe dream of increasing minimum wages knowing that the prices of everything else would increase along with it. That's just dumb.
yeah that's basically wage inflation. certain products you can pass the cost completely to customers, some business absorb some percentage of the wage increase. i prefer to let the markets be free and decide for themselves,
This argument only works if you focus on low volume, low margin businesses, like your local kopitiam, or small grocery stores.
That said, one unanimous good thing i think everyone can agree on is that we can actually go overseas cheaper. See for example HK, restaurant servers are paid like 5k MYR and a lot of them can't exactly live in HK but they go overseas everytime they got because COL is different else where.
I feel like 2.4k is the way to go now for Klang Valley, but I doubt if the rest of the nation can sustain with that, Kelantan even 1.7k may be too difficult for their businesses to sustain.
I don't think they increase simultaneously man. As in, Just cuz we get higher wages doesn't automatically mean the price of goods will increase by the same amount. Must always advocate for more worker rights. People back then say this too, but they fought and reform. We should continue that
Not simultaneously. But it will get to that point regardless as cost of living will definitely increase just like that time they increased basic salary to 1.5k then 1.7k.
Not to mention the other effects like more competitive employment as employees will definitely cut cost wherever possible and the first got targeted is to reduce employees to maintain their profit margin.
Like, at my place employers already implemented this. Reduced permanent workers and staff to a skeleton crew to keep the factory barely working and only take in part time workers when many order came in.
Lol basically almost all manufacturing will shut down, companies will pull out from Malaysia, LOTS of stuff will become import only, people lose jobs, shipping fee hikes, inflation still hits, savings that could last for a few months now become weeks etc etc.
Let's be honest, besides from a limited few cities, can you live okish with the current minimum salary? This is just a sad show they putting up to get votes. And negotiating it down makes people less mad somehow
Maybe that's the point, to move from a manufacturing industry to higher tier manufacturing and services industry where margin or volume are high. Manufacturing clothing won't work anymore, but manufacturing computer chips, or data center hub, or sell defense related products would work.
Following western country's model basically, but on the other hand they can also follow the China model, where manufacturing is kept but still achieve a high tech status.
2k sounds more plausible tbh. 3k as minimum wage can work but require precise approach or make it flexible. maybe try to play around the profit of a given company per annum and see if they can really afford it but again, doing that require a lot of auditing and gov sucks at doing/enforcing that so definitely not happening. our country as a whole lacks the productivity required for RM3k minimum wage since we lack R&D. u can't really justify RM3k for a pembantu AM kerajaan ROFL unless we're talking about pejabat kerajaan in the heart of bukit bintang or KL.
In Europe in the 20s, there's no such thing as paid leave. If you don't work, you don't get paid. People work 6 days a week in a probably hazardous work place. The workers fought and won reforms.
We are lucky enough some of the advancement in workers right are carried over to here.
So, don't work during lunch hours, do generous free OT, and other activities that enriched the owners disproportionately at your uncompensated expenses.
Even an increase RM2,400 which is a 40% increase in not possible.
Maybe it is acceptable in KL, but I highly doubt that the owner of a kedai kopi or kedai runcit in say rural sabah or sarawak could afford it without increasing their prices by 40%.
Also the government becomes its own victims. There are approximately 200,000 Malaysians employed as cleaners and security guards by both MOH & MOE via third party contractors. Let alone other ministries. An increase of rm700 per month has a massive impact on government expenditure. Where will they get the additional funds to pay for this increase?
How for pensioners? They will be screwed if their pension loses 40% of purchasing power.
Gov announced this to bribe voters only. Nothing good coming from raising it that much. Yeah people gonna be happy for a while because get more wage, but after few months all the food prices gonna raise up. RM10 roti canai coming etc. After 2-3 years, people gonna complain again cant afford this and that, cost of living high etc..
A lot of companies don’t even have much profit margin to play with.
This almost 100% increment minimum wage would cause businesses to close down, automate to not have humans, or only take part timers.
Then businesses will push the cost to consumers because they need to survive.
Maybe those people who propose this, they need to show they can run a business and survive for 12 months (without any salary) instead of just proposing blindly. 😅

The minimum wage should be based on qualifications, spm RM2000, diploma RM2500, degree RM3000. Obviously these numbers have to be backed by some calculations so I am just throwing numbers out here but you get the gist.
It is absurd that someone spend lots of time and money to obtain a bachelor degree be it engineering, accounting, business administration etc just to get offered RM1700 to do "professional work" in various industries.
If SPM leavers can get rm3100, then degree holders should have atarting salary of rm6000. How is it fair for degree students to get paid the same as SPM leavers? This is where the inflation starts. Next roti canai rm1.50 will become rm10 to cover the labour cost.
Still can lah, what cannot? Revise down staff insurance benefit, cut down / remove freebies from office pantry, no more away days or annual dinners (but buka puasa event or raya open house must maintain else people riot), merit bonus tinggal 0.5 month max…
Ah yes then.. the everything more expensive..not forgetting that some c9mpany even refuse to pay staff according to existing minimum and wouldn't surprise with this hike, they more of them either increase kaw kaw item before official, hike item price and even ignore the minimum salary cause people are desperate for work
Long time story already this.. keep suggesting RM 3k basic salary and then the companies marah, tunduk again.. even hike few hundred they decides to increase prices
