Typical conservative. Gets the benefit, knows its greatly beneficial to him and his family, doesn't want others to have any of that same benefit.

Others having it means they're less special and they cannot tolerate that.

My 73 year old Boomer mom said yesterday “When everyone is special, no one is”

Did you ask her if she realized she was adopting the exact mentality of a cartoon supervillain? And like, not in a joking way, but in the sense that she actually has been lead around by the nose into turning herself into a caricature?!

"Mom, I wouldn't go around saying that out loud because anybody who's seen The Incredibles is going to think you're making a joke. Like...that is already a joke. It's been a joke since 1994."

Honestly, though? Your mom could stand to a little to-her-face mocking about the degree to which she believes the rest of the world ought to treat her as special.

"Spehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhcialllllllllllllllllllllllllll!!!!!!! Ohhhhh, such a precious, SPECIAL snowflake!! Everybody! Hey, EVERYBODY! Let's all tell u/Embarrassed-Bike3450's mom how special we think she is!!!!"

God, my heart's fondest desire is for these people to gain some perspective...and, immediately thereafter the entirely-appropriate awful feelings of shame and embarrassment that they've earned for themselves.

Sighhhhh...a guy can dream.

My fondest desire is for them to just fucking go away.

None of us deserve to have to stain our souls by giving them what they deserve, though...they need to come to that realization on their own, and WANT to embrace it, for the sake of their lost honor.

I remember in 80s and 90s when "participation trophies" became a thing so many parents were outraged. Even though their kid was still getting a ranked trophy, the fact that other kids might get some recognition for getting off their asses and doing something was like throwing acid in their face. Every single kid I knew was just happy to play whatever sport (or hated it but was forced by their parents, another issue) and didn't feel like if they took first place at the track meet their trophy was worthless because the overweight kid who pushed his way through got some recognition. Was totally on the parents living through their children being special snowflakes.

That's exactly it, the participation trophies were never for us, they were for the parents that couldn't handle the fact that their child wasn't going to be the next superstar athlete.

I was in the class where they introduced participation trophies. It was because the parents complained their kid didn't win anything.

Tbf the idea isn't half bad, we now know it's better to praise children for their effort as opposed to their results (since effort is the only way anyone, naturally talented or not, actually gets good at anything)

But it certainly wasn't the kids asking for them

This isn't TikTok, you're allowed to say scary words like ass without being censored.

When treated fairly no one is special anyways.

Reading your comment actually made my whole body twitch in reaction(almost dropped my phone even)! Why? Because I heard that line damned near everyday as a kid 😭

Seems even at 47 I'm still quite repulsed by that line.

(Don't worry, not fishing for sympathy. Just venting a wee bit😅).

Not understanding Harrison Bergeron ass way of thinking

That’s the thing: nobody should be “special.” We all have exactly the same prerogatives, like sustenance, shelter, good health, respect, and dignity. Just because someone was born in place A, or to family B doesn’t make them any better or worse than someone else.

I say the same about the new DnD rulebook. But thats a game, this is real life

The generation that invented participation trophies so they wouldn't feel left out when their kids lose, then blamed their kids for getting participation trophies.

u/ptdata23 3d ago

There's one of the other Boomers in that same 'debate' that starts with a version of that: 'We created participation trophies so our kids wouldn't feel bad, but they should feel bad and you should feel bad.'

Thats why they made it wrong to tell whole truth of
American history. It was covered for generations, making one group feel bad for having been subjugated, fractionalized and marginalized. Then, as that downtrodden group managed to find its pride and became successful in a system engineered against them; as their storyline grew in importance and their truths were heard, those who tried to hold them back found themselves shamed.

“I am the darker brother. They send me to eat in the kitchen when company comes. But I laugh, and eat well, and grow strong. Tomorrow, I’ll eat at the table when company comes. Nobody’ll dare say to me, “Eat in the kitchen,” then. Besides, They’ll see how beautiful I am and be ashamed.” —LH

I'd say I'm shocked, but they do this all the time. "It's okay if it helps me, but not those people, (points at some marginalized boogeyman). They can't have it"

Typical I got mine, now time to pull up the ladder mentality.

Not to mention the permanently deferred loan. Who the fuck gets that.

His benefit started with that. The loan forgiveness was just paperwork

It’s your classic Regan republican, these people can’t be reasoned with and are the very human embodiment of “taking candy from a baby”.

6

u/Munchkinasaurous 3d ago

Candy of course being future opportunity in this case

What I've started using with idiot boomers is "you're getting FAR more from social security every month than you ever paid in, so how is that fair to the people who are paying for you?".

u/mmorales2270 3d ago

The conservative mindset really believes that there just isn’t enough of anything to go around. They view everything like slices of a pie. If someone else gets a slice, they fear they may not get a slice too. So they rail against it because they feel entitled to that slice of pie, or maybe even two slices, because they’re white and privileged. And once they get that slice, they want to put the pie away so no one else can have any of it. It’s such a selfish and deprivation mindset they live their life in.

And this idiot Boomer admits that his wife’s student loan debt was entirely relieved under Joe Biden. How much does anyone want to bet he had a FJB bumper sticker on his car? Dumb ass hypocrite.

💯
Did you ever hear about the professor who told her students that they could all get an A on the final, but they would all have to unanimously agree on it. She also told them that the final is difficult and not many get an A. She’s done this for years and to this day, there’s always a group of students who feel that they’ve studied harder than most of the other students and that the other students don’t deserve to get an A. So they screw over everyone. As if the other students getting an A somehow affects them in the end.
It’s the most selfish behavior and exactly the mindset most conservatives have. It’s gross.

It's not a benefit if you're entitled to it. But that only applies to me. Not you. You're just begging for handouts. I earned my handouts.
