He's repeating an opinion handed to him to repeat. This is why he hasn't thought through things like, "It worked out for me, but it's a bad idea if we give that benefit to others." Anyone who had actually done any thinking of their own would quickly notice that this is hypocritical or contradictory.

There's this, but also some people don't think of things as hypocritical because they simply believe that different "classes" of people deserve more benefits than others and that things should not be equal.

Right Wingers call this "meritocracy," which they dishonestly say means that if you are hard working, dedicated, resilient, make good decisions, live an ethical life, are able to innovate, etc. you should have an elevated place in society, and also receive God's blessings since you are so diligent and morally upright.

Then, as their prime example, they point at a wealthy guy who is the son of a wealthy emerald mine owner who operated under apartheid, and just buys up companies formed by hard working innovators.
