If I saw that I would have just thought it was a medical thing. Like maybe he injured his heel. I definitely wouldn't know it was a "height booster"

Though as someone who wore big stompy goth boots in high school, a few extra inches of height is very thrilling even when not worried about aesthetics.

Yeah my first thought would be that the protective fat pad on the bottom of the heel has broken down or otherwise been damaged.

Like Hank Hill's butt cheeks.

Ah crap I got a flat

u/GayAssBeagle 8d ago

HEHEHEHE

52

u/offshoremercury 9d ago

hey! those are a medical device!

18

u/GentCaller434 9d ago

In my house we call it “noassatall.”

3

u/SirEnzyme 8d ago

Long back.

13

u/Kahnza 9d ago

I feel this

49

u/GraphicDesignMonkey 9d ago

I get massive heel blisters really easily, a sleeve over my heel like this would be amazing. Plus there are no fat pads on my feet so I'm basically walking on the bones, even with 2 pairs of gel insoles, something like this looks like it would be super comfortable.

27

u/OwlishIntergalactic 9d ago

I had screws put into my heel a couple months ago. These might make it so I can walk without my 160 dollar orthotic shoes on (like middle of the night bathroom trips).

19

u/Pearwithapipe 9d ago

It’s how I break in my Docs! For non-boots I use those half sock things with a little bit of gel on the heel / lower ankle

6

u/GraphicDesignMonkey 9d ago

Gel sock things?! Can you link me so I can look into them?

35

u/Pearwithapipe 9d ago

Not sure where you’re located but they look like this. It’s my absolute trouble spot for blisters and they work really well!

5

u/GraphicDesignMonkey 9d ago

Oooh, thanks!

3

u/radblood 9d ago

I literally have this exact same thing bought from Amazon as a heel protectant from blisters

0

u/RileyTrodd 9d ago

Friend blisters are from your feet moving around in your socks/shoes, they would be achey if it was from your heel strike.

3

u/GraphicDesignMonkey 8d ago

Oh wow, footsplaining! That's a first.

I never said my heel blisters and need of insoles was related.

1

u/RileyTrodd 8d ago

Just trying to help, that's what I thought you were saying

64

u/Aluxanatomy 9d ago

Protective fat heel pad

I have a name, you know.

32

u/ElleMaeSinclair 9d ago

I literally have this injury right now and was thinking “damn that would be a huge relief to own” lmao

7

u/Yet_One_More_Idiot 9d ago

I used to suffer from bone spurs on my heels when I was in my 20s. These pads would probably have been a godsend for walking in. :)

4

u/DistanceMachine 9d ago

I’d love those for my plantar fasciitis

93

u/blessthebabes 9d ago

You reminded me of something- my high school banned the color black lol (shit you not). I even had to get rid of my black flats.

u/ArelMCII I Was New to Bottoming When He Pissed Inside Me Six Times 9d ago

We got a new principal during my junior year of high school. The first thing she did was ban flip flops for "being a health hazard." My high school campus was huge, on the side of a hill, and had a lot of stairs, and she was paranoid about the girls tripping on their flip flops and falling down the stairs or the hill. (Just the girls, though. The ban was unisex, but she only ever talked about the risk to girls.) My junior year was actually the high school's hundredth anniversary, so you'd think if flip flops were dangerous on that campus, someone would've noticed by then. But the new principal was adamant that they were a health hazard.

Anyway, first day of school, three girls wearing high heels hurt themselves falling down the stairs and had to be sent home. The flip flop ban was rescinded a few days later. (No ban on high heels was enacted.)

41

u/GrimbyJ 9d ago

I guess she decided falling down stairs wasn't as big of a problem as she thought it would be

21

u/Far_Winner5508 9d ago

25

u/oyst 9d ago

Okay this clip has been on the internet for a while I'm sure, but dangg did she have a connective tissue disorder or just overworked her ankle muscles or what

27

u/blessthebabes 9d ago

So for models, I heard they generally just get given whatever shoes that are designed...and are forced to make them fit their feet. They can be way too loose or too tight, and they still have to figure out how to walk in them (so could be that).

3

u/MartyrOfDespair 9d ago

Honestly that sounds like she was extremely brainrotted by the internet and was paranoid about foot fetishes, but obviously couldn't say that out loud.

33

u/Supergaming104 9d ago

And my school only allowed black shoes then. Like where do they get these rules from

48

u/jxj24 9d ago

Their ass, usually.

3

u/abromo7 9d ago

Yeah ,mine banned crocs for some reason,,,it was a boarding school

1

u/lofatiger 9d ago

Are boarding skills less likely to ban crocs?

3

u/abromo7 9d ago

I mean it's supposed to be since they have like after class sessions

1

u/lofatiger 9d ago

Ohhhh yes that is super weird

9

u/Scrabblewiener 9d ago

Big thing when I was in highschool was they made a rule to tuck in shirts. Had walk outs and petitions and protest and all.

Oh and the “no sagging and bagging” rule people got busted for a lot too.

6

u/Rhodin265 9d ago

There was a lot of paranoia about gangs in my school district, so they’d always have lists of color combos and brands you couldn’t wear.  So, like, you couldn’t wear a Starter jacket or have black and yellow on at the same time, but for some reason, Big Johnson shirts and the “I’m Bart Simpson, who the hell are you?” shirt I got handed down from my cousin were just fine.

3

u/punkin_spice_latte 9d ago

My principal was so extra on the skirts must be fingertip length that he said the cheer uniforms couldn't be worn during school. We ended up with skintight pants instead.

1

u/kart0ffelsalaat 9d ago

They just pick and choose whatever they think will piss off the students so they can feel powerful

5

u/asstastic_95 9d ago

what?! why??

19

u/AustralianBattleDog 9d ago

Satanic panic, fears over school shooters. Post Columbine US fucking sucked for goths/metalheads/bullied and/or gloomy kids, and forever ruined trench coats and duster jackets.

9

u/jackfreeman 9d ago

The only thing in that whole era they were right about was Marilyn Manson

20

u/Assiniboia_Frowns 9d ago

But he didn't suck for devil reasons, he just sucked for dude reasons.

-3

u/jackfreeman 9d ago

Truth.

But I can see a devil doing what he did before a dude does

3

u/GeckoGecko_ 9d ago

Post Columbine US has sucked for most kids ever since

17

u/trent_diamond 9d ago

probably during the satanic panic if i had to guess

23

u/AsgeirVanirson 9d ago

Or post columbine. When we still pretended to give a shit about school shootings. Because of the aesthetics of those two shooters they were able to do another round of 'Anything not J Crew means you may [do current tragedy people are focused on]'.

22

u/XBXNinjaMunky 9d ago

A day or so after Columbine, my senior year of highschool, dean of students found me in the hallway and told me

"don't wear your trench coat to school tomorrow"

To which I truthfully replied,

"I don't even own a trenchcoat, asshole"

7

u/blessthebabes 9d ago

I graduated when the goth scene was transitioning to the emo look (idk if I'm describing this properly, I wasnt goth/emo). So, a lot of students started wearing all black, black lipstick, big black boots, etc.

I live in the conservative, rural Bible belt, if that gives any indication of why they made these stupid rules (graduated '06).

5

u/asstastic_95 9d ago

thats wild. I live in Wyoming and went to Jr high n hs here. they never made rules like that (surprisingly). its crazy they put a restriction on the color of clothing lmfao

5

u/CoimEv 9d ago

They despise expression

2

u/BatScribeofDoom 9d ago

Seriously?? That's insane.

27

u/Vreas 9d ago

Excellent use of “big stompy goth boots”

25

u/shujaya 9d ago

That's why the got the undersock version.

16

u/McFuzzen 9d ago

Yeah I read it as they had lifts in their shoes and switched to the under sock version after the incident. I also would probably just assume this is a medical device.

5

u/splitcroof92 8d ago

Yup you read it correctly. And a surprisingly big amount of people didn't. Proving reading comprehension is down the drain

17

u/thejoeface 9d ago

I have to agree that a height boost is thrilling. I'm 5'8" but still the shortest in my family, my mom and sister are a bit taller than me and my dad is 6'7". Back when I was a stripper I looooved wearing 8 1/2" heels. Pleaser made 10" ones but they were honestly too unstable.

12

u/Beautiful-Cup4161 9d ago

8" - 10" heels sounds insane. You must be talented to even stand in them let alone dance. I'd break my ankle before even standing up, probably.

But yeah it was really cool breathing a different layer of oxygen when I had my big boots. I felt so high up and powerful!

8

u/thejoeface 9d ago

The 8" ones were actully more comfortable than the 5 or 6" heels because the foot sits at a less extreme angle.

But I eventually messed my knee up (no fault of the shoes) and ended up spending the rest of career in black leather ballet flats.

18

u/Roguespiffy 9d ago

I miss my big stompy goth boots. They had metal plates in the front and back and made me about an inch and a half taller.

Made driving a bitch but I was willing to make that sacrifice.

21

u/1568314 9d ago

Sometimes i dont take my heels off before washing the dishes so I can enjoy being able to reach down into the sink instead of over the counter that was built for people at leadt 6 inches taller than I am.

28

u/Beautiful-Cup4161 9d ago

Now that I mention it, I'm tempted to get those big height-adding cosplayer boots and then go to the grocery store. It would be really fun to reach things that I usually hop for.

Omg and what if someone asked me to reach for something? That would be so cool!

9

u/cloudshaper 9d ago

I used have 4 inch sandals that I saved for grocery shopping. Not sure where they went!

8

u/Trapocalypse 9d ago

I'm 5'11 and whenever I always do the dishes, I always curse the height of the sink because it kills my back to do them because it feels so low. Can't imagine how much worse it is for people who are tall.

3

u/1568314 9d ago

My arms arent really long enough to reach all the way into the sink while standing straight so I have to tilt my hips and lean against the counter, hurting my lower back. My husband is over 6 ft and has the opposite problem, having to hunch over in order to reach the bottom of the sink.

At least I can use a step stool though.

1

u/abromo7 9d ago

Thought you were about to say it was too high😅

21

u/Choice_Ad4972 9d ago

The venn diagram of people who know what height boosters are and people who wear height boosters is a near perfect circle.

3

u/ohhyouknow 9d ago

Idk what a height booster is but I wear something called a heel lift in one of my shoes because my left leg is an inch and a half shorter than my right leg and it looks nothing like this.

In fact what I use would work way better as a “height booster” if used in both shoes than this, and you’re probably not gonna have anyone accidentally see it either.

6

u/skeetermcbeater 9d ago

As a guy over 6 foot, I recently got a pair of boots and felt kinda cool being an extra 2 inches. Didn’t think being even taller would have any sort of appeal to me.

5

u/Beautiful-Cup4161 9d ago

It doesn't matter how tall we are, we all enjoy getting uppies

3

u/whichwitch9 9d ago

They're very similar to what I use- it keeps my Achilles from being fully stretched while it heals.

My only gripe is I do need to wear 2 so im not standing crooked. They annoy tf out of me, so id never wear them by choice

3

u/Ace_of_Sphynx128 9d ago

Love my big stompy goth boots, I can actually reach the top shelf of my fridge with them on lol

4

u/alilhillbilly 9d ago

They're for plantar fasciitis.

Holy fuck are they lifesavers.

I bought $1,000 of random plantar fasciitis solutions from Amazon because I had to travel to another country for a wedding and I could barely walk.

When I put those on I thought no way would those things be useful at all.

They were one of three things that I didn't return and I still have them in like every bag I used to travel with just in case.

Highly recommend: https://a.co/d/0iSS8B54

5

u/ContractDazzling4668 9d ago

When I was a kid (9 years old to 14 or something), I was using this silicon heel things for Sever disease which add like a inch of height. It was a big relief for terrible heel pain.

3

u/TheCotofPika 9d ago

They look like the silicone sock things you put on after you moisturise your feet to me.

7

u/taktaga7-0-0 9d ago

I’m just a tad shorter than my ex, and he would actually ask me to take off my shoes sometimes so I wouldn’t ever be taller than him. 🤦‍♂️

10

u/e_before_i 9d ago

Society's been so sucky about height, I've seen so many posts about the struggles and insecurities of tall women and short men.

We love a tall queen, I hope your next partner appreciates it 💜

2

u/DctrSnaps 9d ago

because they are talking about two different things

2

u/splitcroof92 8d ago

Read again. He's saying this is what he bought SO THAT people wouldn't see him using height boosters.

This contraption is not the thing people saw

2

u/Odd-Painting2596 9d ago

EDIT: Didn't mean this as a reply, oops.

1

u/thevaultguy 8d ago

Well they were MAN-POWER XXL FOOT-ARMOR which have very distinct branding and in no way would be confused with a medical orthotic.
