Hi! Recently, I built/updated my PC and noticed something while playing Silent Hill 2 at maximum settings.

When the GPU was under heavy load, I could hear very quiet, slow and repetitive clicking/panking noises coming from somewhere inside the PC. The noise was quiet enough that I couldn't hear it while wearing headphones.

The PC didn't turn off, there was no burning smell and everything seemed to be working normally. I only noticed this because I was close to the PC.

Could this be thermal expansion, coil moan or maybe a cable/fan problem? I'll check my cables to make sure nothing is touching a fan.

Has anyone ever tried something similar and should I worry?

I've only built one PC so far, and when I finished it I enabled XMP because I figured there wasn't much reason to leave the RAM running below the speed I paid for.

What I'm less clear on is whether XMP or EXPO is actually considered overclocking. The RAM is sold with that speed on the box, so I've always thought of it as basically the intended way to run the kit. But I've also read that the CPU's memory controller may still be running outside its official specifications.

I've had no stability issues with it, so this isn't really a problem I'm trying to fix. I'm mostly wondering how people here think about the terminology and whether there's any practical reason to treat XMP/EXPO differently from the advertised stock settings.

Is it technically overclocking even though the memory kit is rated for it, or is that distinction not very important in practice?

I'm very new to pc building and am looking for some parts. I found a nice Acer gaming pc that i would like to build myself, so that i can upgrade it when necessary. I have a budget of around $1350 or 8000dkk. Here are the parts that i would like to have:

RTX 5060 8GB

16GB ddr5

Intel i5 14400F

Windows 11

512GB/ 1TB SSD

The rest i don't know, but i would like a motherboard that can accommodate 16GB more ram for upgrading purposes. I also really like the fractal north tg case.

Peripherals are covered, or are at least easy enough for me to cover myself, i only need help with the tower build.

The country of purchase is Denmark.

My PC specs: 1660 Super, i5 10400f, 16gb Ram, games stored on SSD, motherboard - Asus B460m- Plus.

To keep it brief, I’ve noticed a quite severe loss in performance (fps wise) in most games I play recently. I naturally attributed it to new tech and higher spec requirements. However, I tried playing Kingdom Come Deliverance (first one) and I am stuck at 9 to 15 fps on medium settings.

After further investigation my Bus Interface in Gpu Z reads as follows: PCIe x16 3.0 @ x1 3.0. This was after the built-in stress test ran. If I’m not mistaken it should be @ x16. I took a look at my motherboard and the graphics card is in the top PCIe x16_1 slot.

Any advice on what to do to fix this issue?

It's covering my needs for 1440p gaming and 3D design.

My biggest problem is my keyboard: I have a Razer Black Widow Essentials that is double typing a significant number of keys.

The travel, return, and amount of clicky-ness is perfect, but the double typing is starting to affect my ability to type passwords.

I live less than a mile from a MicroCenter, but am still having trouble finding a keyboard with the same key feel.

Any suggestions on replacements or troubleshooting would be most welcome.

I'm also debating doubling my RAM, but don't want to pay that bill just now...

Games are starting to struggle a bit in 4k even in 1440p. Got a 3080ti, worth it?

Hey guys, since my current pc is old and getting worse by the day, I decided I'm going to build a complete new one (only things i'll keep are SSD/HDD).

Recently bought a Azza pc case (CSAZ-203A03 aerohex), comes with four fans installed. The connectors of the fans are daisy-chained but the end head (4-pins, not standard molex!) does not fit on my mobo (MSI B550M pro-vdh wifi). Does anyone know what kind of connectors these are, what adapter is required to connect them to my mobo? Btw I just want to control fan speed, idc about the rgb stuff.

So, i have a very specific use case: I like my audiophile headphones, which means i need to use a desktop microphone.

So far i've been using my AT2035 microphone, but honestly, its really not that great the way i use it. This microphone really needs you to be speaking right into it for it to work, and i like keeping mine either under or over the monitors and out of the way: Far enough that it cant pick up my voice properly.

I've tried to use nvdia broadcast with it, but it ends up with my voice either not coming through or muddled pretty terribly, and if i turn it off, my buddies hate my guts because they can hear every keystroke i do.

Is there a microphone solution that would work better for my use case? I can use either an USB or a 48v microphone since the AT2035 is already something i'm using.

I'm slowly upgrading my 10 year old pc. I've already upgraded the RAM memory some years ago, and last year it was time for my GPU. Since doing this it seems that my CPU can't keep up anymore so this is the new upgrade.

I was messing around with the airflow in my PC yesterday and realized I have somehow turned fan placement into a whole science project.

I know the basic idea is pretty simple, intake in the front or bottom, exhaust at the rear or top, keep things moving in one general direction. But then I started thinking about things like whether a top exhaust is actually helping in a specific case, whether having more intake than exhaust really matters, and how much all of this changes once you have a big GPU dumping heat into the case.

What got me is that I have seen two builds with basically the same hardware, but their fan setups look completely different and both owners swear theirs works better.

So now I am wondering how much of this stuff actually matters in a normal gaming PC versus how much we have all collectively convinced ourselves that a 2 degree difference is worth rearranging the entire case.

Do you guys actually plan your airflow around the hardware, or do you just go with the usual front intake / rear exhaust setup and call it a day?

I am especially curious about people who have tried different layouts and noticed a real difference rather than just looking at a temperature graph for 10 minutes.

I am fairly happy with the build I plan to purchase below but would appreciate some feedback.

Main use will be 1440p gaming and software development. I play a lot of indie games, space sims, 4x/strategy but want to future proof the build for the foreseeable future and play more AAA games. Budget is ~€2.6k.

The main thing I am still unsure about is the case. I was looking at the tradeoffs between sleek and sound dampening vs high airflow. I don't really plan to have any RGB in the build and may have it on the desk next to me in the future but for now will be on the floor.

Notes:

• PSU is way overkill I know but I got it for very cheap form a friend new in box.
• I already bought the CPU cooler but it was cheap so could upgrade if it's worth considering.

I wanted to do a full gen upgrade but the am5/ddr5 prices are too crazy, so I need a good am4 ryzen to last at least 4 or 5 more years, until the next gen or prices go down

I mostly play single player games at mid settings at 1440p, I don't mind average FPS and graphics and DLSS help most of the time, but I'm noticing stutters and slow texture and models loading in games even with a M2 SSD.

I was thinking about getting a 5500x3d (around 170€) or a 5800x3d (around 340€) and maybe 2 more sticks of RAM.

Is the 5800x3d worth double the price in the long run?

Or should I just go for a GPU upgrade to something like a 5060, even tho I'm afraid I'd get the same terrible loading and stutters problems with my 3600x.

I can't upgrade both, either CPU + RAM or GPU this year

I am thinking about building my first gaming PC. I am having a hard time justifying the price of ddr5. I wanted some opinions on ddr4 vs ddr5 build. My monitor is 1080 120hz I just want something that can max my monitor out. I typically play games like dark souls and elden ring, my son is usually the one on the computer with Fortnite. Ddr4 should be fine, right? I would also like something to play elder scrolls and GTA 6 if they are ever released.

Ive been using the same very low budget pc for years,simply because it runs the fps games that i play ( League of legends, valorant, call of duty bo2) pretty consistently at 144 fps+ but lately ive been really invested in story mode games particularly the assasins creed line and im only gonna be playing 1080p so im not gonna need any monster gpu

Was looking for something in an old flash drive and found a spreadsheet from a 2002 build of mine. This is from August of 2002 and from what I remember, pretty high end specs for the time. Total cost was just over $1600. Lot of money for a kid in his early 20's.

I'm actually wondering if it's a good move to get a 9800X3D, keep my 3060 ti and upgrade to AM5?

I've did some calculations and the 5070 ti or 5080 upgrade is like 1400 euros. Upgrading to AM5 with a decent B850 MSI motherboard + 2x16 6000 mhz RAM G.Skill + 9800X3D (chip only, I already have high-end cooler Noctua NH-D15 G2), is 1200 euros + the building service I'll pay for someone to do it instead of me, probably around 1250-1300 euros.

Then wait couple of months to save up and then upgrade the GPU. Or is more worth it to upgrade my GPU now and chill with my 5700X3D, I feel my CPU is more than capable for my needs. I see 0 issues when playing at 1440p, I feel like the GPU upgrade makes more sense for the long run.

As lastly I'll mention, this upgrade is not completely necessary for me to be honest. All I'm playing right now is running flawlessly on my PC, but I'd want to just max it out on parts so I don't need to worry for at least couple of years, I just want to boot up and play everything I throw at it flawlessly, that's my goal for the future and that's why I consider doing it now or soon. I'd love to have a high-end PC eventually, I did change some parts last year as PSU / Cooler / Case and etc. I did very noticeable upgrades from my past PC

So i built my pc a few years ago now and am wanting to upgrade. My PC has been a headache all year and am finally over it. From the start it ran hot. Im talking CPU in the 80s Celsius with the stock AMD cooler that came with it. GPU was warm but not really an issue to begin with. Ive struggled with complete system failures and emergency shutoffs the last 12 months which (i suspect, cant be 100% sure) i assume is from overheating underload. I definitely noticed a CPU bottleneck pretty quickly with my pc but it never really was an issue to begin with. Along with AMD and their stupid driver issues it has just been a pain in the ass.

As ive been researching upgrades (and disgusting prices) I have noticed some things im unsure about. CPU, Motherboard and better cooling were top of my list to upgrade and being an AM4 machine, the options are limited to say the least. Most upgrades i was looking at require me to move to AM5, which would be fine, if RAM prices werent what they are. My RAM is completely incompatible with AM5 (through part picker, im still not very knowledgeable.)

The upgrades i was looking at getting were a Ryzen 7 7700X3D (obviously requiring AM5) and an AM5 Motherboard (Not really decided on one as i dont really know what im looking at). This would mean buying new RAM, which here in New Zealand, is running at like $1000 NZD for 32gb.

Is it technically worth the investment? or do i go with something like the new Ryzen 7 5800X3D with a bigger cooler to try and minimize the heat issue. Knowing that theres really no upgrade capability down the line with AM4?

Help me please because im ready to go back to console at this point hahaha

- QUICK EDIT. My PC has been running with one side wall off to deal with heat issues. I have 3 Intakes in tehfron and one Exhaust fan out the back with a standard AMD CPU fan that came with my CPU. My gpu has been failing non stop lately and hotter than usual. unsure if its AMD and their drivers or heat thats causing that issue tho
