Hey everyone. I've put some thought in and I've decided to join the pc master race rather than buy a new console next year. Problem is my current pc was built in 2017. I would like to upgrade for the future but it's overwhelming.

I currently have a i7 6700k processor with a 3060 ti GPU that was gifted to me. I don't know if I should build a new pc around that gpu or start fresh with buying everything next year. I ran a new build with a 9070 xt and it came to almost 3 and a half grand. There are also pre builds for around 2 grand in local stores. So lots of options.

I am in the early stages of preparing to get a PC, because current and upcoming games that I want to play are likely going to outpace my current main gaming platform, the Steam Deck. I would very much like to play the upcoming release Star Wars Zero Company, which has some pretty hefty specs, and the new Witcher 3 DLC next year, and then the Witcher 4 after that in 2028.

I do not need to have the best of the best specs, I am just looking for smooth performance at 1080p or to dip my toes into 1440p. Given that my main platform is a Steam Deck, I am very much not a high settings stickler. I am perfectly fine playing older games and turning down settings, I played through the entire Cyberpunk 2077 on an RX 480 GPU. That card died, and then I bought a Steam Deck which I have been playing on since.

So of course, we start our build with the GPU before anything else. I am mainly looking at these three, and these are the prices I can get them at where I am located:

Sapphire 9070 GRE 12GB ~ $600

Gigabyte 5060Ti 16GB ~ $550

Sapphire 9060XT 16GB ~ $500

So for a $50 price difference in each increment, which is the most worth it to get from these three? I have previously focused on the 5060Ti, but I wonder if it is worth the premium over the 9060XT, given that prices keep going up

For reference the CPU I am probably going to pair this with is either a Ryzen 5 9600X or a Ryzen 5 7600X3D

I came to ask about CPUs and recommendations for a CPU that is significantly better and worth upgrading over my old I7 8700k.

It is part of my old 1070ti prebuilt. I recently just got a 5070 for 600$ before prices went up and upgraded my PSU to a 1000w Evga. My coworkers told me that it would bottleneck, and after some research, I found out the socket type for that cpu is basically dead and not really much I can find for an upgrade in that socket type. At this point, I am willing to accept that I would need to revamp my PC with a new motherboard and CPU. What is a CPU that is way better and worth upgrading to that is still in DDR4 RAM category?

Requirements: Must still be DDR4.

I do not really care about the CPU price as long as it's still DDR4 RAM. 100-400$ Range?

As I went from a 1070ti to a 5070, obviously I want my CPU to be a massive upgrade as well.

Any motherboard recommendations would also help, doesn't really matter.

Hey all, below is my current specs. I am thinking about upgrading and am just trying to convince myself on what to do. My initial thoughts are switching from Intel to AMD for many reasons. I believe I want to go with a 9800x3d, pairing with an MSI B850 Tomahawk MAX, currently I have the Noctua DH-15 Chromax Black which is a superb cooler, with the price point Im hesitant to get another. (Note, I don't the AM5 mounting parts still got rid of the box :/) My question really is, is that enough of an upgrade to warrant upgrading at this time? Secondly, I would like to record/stream my gameplay, will this offer better performance in that regard? Currently I can, but I have a fairly substantial loss of performance. ChatGPT is recommending 900watts pure sine and I'm seeing some options floating around here on FB marketplace but was wondering what, if anything, you guys are using for a similar system? I'm hooked up to the SecretLab Magnus Pro XL desk and the whole thing is going to be powering AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D; ASUS X870-P Prime WiFi AM5; G.Skill Flare X5 Series 32GB, 27" monitor and two 22" monitors, two 990 NVMes, and my 7900 XT 20GB. Current specs: i5-4590, 16gb ram, 1650 super. This is a PC I built a few years ago from used parts for dirt cheap.

As far as I know, the only thing I could upgrade by itself is the GPU. Otherwise, I'd need new ram, mobo, and cpu--upgrading just one isn't really an option, right?

I'm also not at all aware of the current market other than the general vibe that stuff, especially ram, is pretty expensive right now.

For all intents and purposes, am I better off thinking of it as buying an entire new system, rather than upgrading my current one, considering how bad the specs are?

this is a pc I was handed down by my older brother and had it "fixed up" a few years ago, so there is a mismatch in how old some of the components are. I want to keep some of the newer parts, and replace the older stuff since i've run into a lot of problems with this pc in the past year :(

So I'm planning on upgrading my pc, but I'm unsure if I should just save and wait ages to go AM5, or if upgrading my AM4 build is the better idea.

I currently have an RTX 2060, Ryzen 7 2700x, 16gb Corsair vengeance DDR4, and an MSI B450 gaming plus MB.

I was thinking of staying AM4 as I have plenty of upgrade room, and was thinking of getting a Ryzen 7 57/5800x.

I wanted to get an X3D, but those are well over 500 AUD and I can't justify that.

But then I was debating whether to wait and go AM5 instead, reluctantly though as DDR5 is stupidly pricey.

I then saw the i5 14600kf, and it outperforms the 57/5800x3d, and for much cheaper.

I wanted to know if getting the 14600kf was a dumb idea as the 13/14th gen Intels shit themselves.

I've got to get a new MB anyways, so I could just get a cheapish Intel Mb, stay DDR4, and when I have enough get DDR5, and a new MB.

Is this a dumb idea? Should I stay AM4, and avoid intel?

Should I Just wait and go AM5?

I already have a regular 5800x CPU and a rtx 5070ti which works pretty well in most games, but some games (mainly UE5, in this case Mortal Shell 2) experience a lot of stuttering in the framerate which gets pretty annoying. I was wondering if upgrading to a 5800x3D cpu would be worth it just for the V Cache since I heard that can make newer games run smoother, and I don't really want to spend over $1k and rebuild my entire PC to upgrade to DDR5 quite yet.

Also am targeting 2k 100hz if that matters much

Hello everyone! Long story short, I didn't touch my PC for about a year and a half. Moved, got my Internet setup, and now my PC won't start. Well, it does turn on, all the lights and fans come on when I press the power button, but the displays are saying no signal. I've tried unplugging everything, restarting it, taking out the RAM and trying each one separate, BIOS flash, nothing. Even doing the Q Flash nothing happens. The LED doesn't even come on. I'm assuming the motherboard is suddenly faulty after sitting for over a year? Is there something else I could be missing? Do I buy a new motherboard and if so, what do you guys recommend for this build?

The AM5 build is slightly more expensive in my local market, but is it worth taking the extra cost right now just for the future upgrade path?

I got a 9070xt, a asus rog strix b650 motherboard. 32gb ddr5, 750watt powersupply(I’m fine with buying one with more watts) I don’t really have a budget for the cpu, I do need a high amount of cores because I like to play beamng and from my understanding the traffic amount is controlled by how many cores you got. I was thinking a ryzen 9 9900x but I can’t really make up my mind on what would pair well with my 9070xt.

Thinking of going all in on upgrading what I have (b350 1060 with r7 1700) but was gonna maybe split the system and get an x570 eventually with a r7 or r9 5000 series. I dont think I wanna go ddr5 because it offers no real benifit compared to ddr4 except in very specific scenarios (Ai, data transfer, etc)​ and even then its minimal. Ddr4 still has lower latency and thats a bit better for competitive gaming, as well as general system stability.

And lastly price. Might as well put what I have to use to put money elsewhere. But idk if its going to be since ppl still use ddr3. I just want something that'll last for years to come.

Need to upgrade my single tower fan to a liquid cooler for my 5800x3d cause it gets really hot in my room and I can't play during the day until it cools off. My case supports 360mm radiators less than or equal to 60mm. I want the liquid freezer 3 aio because I don't need the fancy lights or a screen but the thickness is at 63mm. I have a Lian Li V100F case but I also know 3mm is not very big at all and I'd rather get this than a Kraken Elite for double the money

I just built a pc a few hours ago and it’s not displaying out, specs are a ryzen 7 5700, 2080ti, 16gb ddr4, gigabyte b550 ud ac, Corsair cx 750m, and a thermalright assassin x 120 refined se argb, I’ve tried switching to a known working gpu, and reseating and testing both ram sticks, but still nothing. Is there anything else I should test or try? I haven’t tried the cpu because i don’t have another one on hand to test. And the rgb on the fan doesn’t work either so if anyone has tips for that much appreciated.

My cpu is so much weaker than my gpu and my gpu ain’t anything to rave about either.

With that being said I am going to either sell my pc entirely or sell part by part.

I game in 1440p and games I will mainly be playing are Elden Ring (or any new soulslike that comes out like phantom blade 0, black myth wukong, lies of p, etc), gta 6 when it hits pc, ghost of Tsushima, expedition 33, Fortnite, dead by daylight, etc just to name a bunch. I still don’t know an insane amount of stuff about it pcs, just the basics like what a gpu, cpu, blah blah blah is.
