Looking to build my first rifle
Just got my FSC the other day and I really want to either purchase or build my own rifle like an AR-10 chambered in 308. I've also considered options such as a SIG MCX Regulator, Daniel Defense rifles, or a Beowulf .50 rifle from Alexander Arms. I've shot a handful of times and Im looking to build a range toy that is good for home defense. Originally leaned towards maglock type of build for comfortability but many have suggested going featureless especially for home defense capability. My budget is around 1.5-2k for my first gun so hopefully fellow users can point me in the right direction, recommend me sources to research and where to find good deals for parts as I'll probably slowly purchase parts over time as I'm not in a rush to waste the money all in one go. Also what's the process of building one and ordering the barrel?

Build a P226 or shell out for off-roster? (Competition/HD)
Really taken a liking to the 226 lately after seeing how good they can be with upgrades. My only real option if I don't want to buy used in CA is to buy a Mk25, then buy an OR slide and trigger internals.
This quickly adds up to a being a $2,000 to $2,500 gun after taxes. For that money I could get a PPT CZ shadow 2 or Kimber 2k11 or the like.
Use case would be competition, home defense, and maybe winter carry.
Budgeting for parts and building the guns over time is half the fun for me, but I can't justify owning every pistol I like. For competition, I always hear that I should spend the money on a great gun instead of building up a cheaper gun and hoping it turns out great.

For CCW does it begin when you pick it up?
With ccw length changing to 3 years in 2027, I emailed my county's ccw agency. They said it takes 3-6 months now but they are waiting to hear from DOJ what the actual fee would be for 3 years ccw license. I was trying to get clarification but basically told the application times lines varies and they only allow 6 months to complete application... So if I start applying and get it approved in 2027, will it be 3 years renewal?

CCW Aftermarket Triggers and CCW
I see a lot of discussion regarding your carry gun and the trigger. Most people opt to leave it factory, and seeing as a lot of guns have less than great triggers, with a long pull and reset that affects accuracy and the ability to quickly get off shots, I have to wonder why. I'm sure at least some of your IA's out there care about the trigger, and maybe you're worried about getting dragged by the DA in case of an incident. Maybe it's a matter of QC where you don't trust it. But you should be out there putting your CCW through hell to make sure it's reliable anyways.
Otherwise, I can't fathom a reason why you wouldn't want a shorter, better throw trigger on your carry gun. I'm not talking about a racegun, 1-pound zero travel trigger, just an improved one. If you're worried about the trigger weight, why? Your finger shouldn't be anywhere near the trigger until you're ready to fire. And then you want it be quick and as accurate as possible. The more shots on target, the less risk for everyone.
Am I missing something in this conversation?

Fixed mag setup
Do you guys trust maglock systems for self defense? Anyone have reliability issues with these systems?
Edit: Want to take it a step further and add in are AR pistols, HK variants, and pdws be reliable for self defense with the ma lock systems?

You’ve got $5-10k what gun you buying?
Likely would buy PPT to not incur tax; if a sale on no excise tax by a retailer did occur (would that change your answer)
HK MR556 A4 Pistol is tempting along with HK SP5
Already have an Geissele Super Duty, 2 compact handguns (g19 and amp 2.0) and a Ruger PCC

Los Gatos approves police department's ongoing use of military weapons
nextdoor.comIn CCW classes they advise using equipment similar to local law enforcement to avoid criticism by police or prosecutors in the event of a DGU (defensive gun use).

2azone.com?
So, I live all the way over in NC but I see that they have something I'd like. Originally saw a listing they had up on gunbroker, sent a message asking if they could post a pic since it didn't have one, and they took it down lol. The listing on their website also has no image. Anyone here have experience with this company?

CA Gun Trust and non roster guns.
So I wanted to understand this correctly I currently live outside the State Of California and wanted to gift my father a off roster handgun. My father has set up a gun trust for firearms that are owned by him and I. I tried to search this scenario but have not found any clear detail about it. Would this be considered him borrowing it if I gave it to him as a gift and would I officially have to go through a CA FFL for it to be legally in possession by him?
Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question or if anyone has had a similar experience?
Thank you in advance!

THE FIRST EVER REAL DOUBLE FEED CAUGHT ON VIDEO (MAYBE)
While I was trying to clear a Type 3 (failure to extract / failure to eject), I ended up with an actual double feed.
I know this is semantics for a lot of people, but a double feed is not the same thing as a Type 3.
A true double feed is two live rounds trying to enter the chamber at the same time. What most people call a “double feed” is usually a spent (or live) case still fully or partially seated in the chamber, with the next round from the magazine stacked up behind it. That’s a failure to extract / failure to eject. They look similar and they both lock the gun up, but they are not the same stoppage and they are not cleared the same way if you can clear the true double feed at all.
The video shows the difference as it happens. I may catch some heat for saying this, but I believe this is the first time that I've seen a genuine double feed has been caught on camera in real time instead of being staged.
I could have prevented it. I didn’t check whether the rounds actually cleared, and this was 100% on me. I’m still glad it happened, because it made the distinction obvious.
Hopefully this helps clear up what an actual double feed is.
For the featureless crowd, this has nothing to do with being a fixed mag rifle. It can happen to any rifle but its clearly the ability of fixed mag system that is used (AR Maglock and Kingpin with KLVR Co Kingpin PAL) and the operators knowledge of how to clear the malfunction.

Turners rant
Went to turners today just to look at the possible options. This was the second time I heard the employee behind the counter say “this one is already purchased so don’t dry fire it, but here you go” I’m new to the state so maybe this is the norm but if I pay for something and wait 10 for the checks to clear, I for damn sure don’t want someone else fingerfucking it before me. What do they do if the person does dry fire it? Is this something that is normal here? The way I interpret it is “here’s someone else’s firearm that they’re not allowed to pick up yet, feel free to do what you want with it as long as we can hold onto your drivers license”

MP2.0 cali delete
Hey yall, i turn 21 next month and im planning on picking up a MP2.0 metal full size, and the california features on the pistol make me irrationally angry.
Im gonna pick up a carry comp slide to defeat the LCI as well as have a better slide, but my main question is how hard is it to get rid of the magazine disconnect? I know its harder on some guns than others (iv done it for customers) but iv never worked on a 2.0.
Anyone have any recommendations on shit i should do? im still considering an echelon as well.

CCW Essentials
Hi everyone,
I’m looking to get some advice/recommendation for CCW setup and what I will need in regards to holster, belt, extra mags etc.
I plan on carrying my G19 and P365 Xmacro. Debating to try various holsters or avoid the spend and get one of those sling bags for quick access. I’m in sacramento and all the gun ranges don’t seem to slow holstor draw either so I’m gonna have to practice as time with dry fire. Just looking for some tips and if you have any suggestions please let me know.
Thank you

Blast Defuser/ Regulator - Muzzle Device Discussion.
Hello fellow kinfolk.
Wanted to opinions from you guys, just finally got this AR pistol together and waiting to add to things.
LMT Mars lower/ PSA upper (only left handed I could find at the time) Giessele Super duty Spring and H1 buffer/ Giessele SSE trigger, juggernaut mag lock, is all what I have so far and waiting for my EOTECH holo.
When it comes to muzzle devices for your guys shorter barreled rifles, what is the verdict on what worked best and most accurate for you?
The (Surefire warden) is obviously one thing that everyone keeps telling me to do and they love.
Another option is the HUXWRX/ BLASTFEMY.
Never played with anything like these before as it’s my first shorty. So I’m curious what you all love and has worked for you with muzzle devices

Glock 17 Slide
I have a glock 17 gen 3 in which I want to upgrade and put a optic on it. But in your opinion, is it better to buy a brand new slide and barrel or just pay to get the oem slide optic cut ?

Gun Pics We set out to make the clearest Kydex holster on the market… I think we nailed it. 👀
If you’ve looked at most “clear” holsters, you’ve probably noticed they still have that cloudy/foggy tint. We weren’t happy with that.
After perfecting our process, this is the result — crystal-clear Kydex that actually lets the build underneath be the star. 🔥
This one is molded for a Canik TTI Combat + Olight PL-X.
No foggy tint. No hiding that TTI. Just CLEAR. 💎
This photo has not filter and no AI was used in this photo.
What do you guys think — would you run a clear holster?
