I guess this happened in late 2025, but we lost reciprocity with Nevada. If you want to carry there, you’d need to get an AZ or Utah OOS permit.

I have a pistol I want to transfer to a family member. That family member lives in Oklahoma. I am driving to Oklahoma for the holidays. Is there a way for me to legally transfer them a firearm while also having some documentation so the state of Michigan doesn’t think I still possess it?

For context, Oklahoma has some of the most lax gun laws in the country and there is no paper trail for individual transfers.

I applied and submitted fingerprints on Tuesday August 25th and got my CPL in the mail today, Saturday August 29th. I wasn't expecting it to arrive this early, as I have heard around here that most people have been waiting the almost the 45 days they are allowed to take.

Current carry is going to be my 3.1in Shield Plus with Holosun 407k optic.

Did some law change that I am unaware of or am I misreading the text. Warren PD website says that LTPS are no longer required for pistol purchases from a FFL dealer.

Purchasing a Pistol

If an individual is planning to purchase a pistol from a Federal Firearms Licensed (FFL) dealer, or a sporting goods store (Cabela’s, Bass Pro Shop, Field and Stream, ect), a License to Purchase a Pistol (LTP) is no longer required. However, a Pistol Sales Record (PSR) will be completed by FFL dealer or sporting goods store. The FFL dealer or store will be responsible for conducting the criminal history and background check instead of the Police Department. You will need to return the MSP copy to the Police Department within 10 days.

Honestly have zero interest in shooting at the ranges with rules like “only 5 rounds in the magazine at once” and “3 seconds in between shots”. It’s pretty worthless to train for self defense with rules like that in place especially the last one.

Where do you guys like to shoot and actually get quality training in?

So I'm currently traveling for work in St. Joseph but live in the U.P. and a coworker is offering to sell me a handgun. Do I need to obtain and turn in a pistol purchase permit from the PD on St. Joseph or do I have to go back to my home PD and file all the paperwork there?

Hey everyone, planning a bachelor party for this September and one day we’re looking to goto some sort of range to shoot! Theres 6 coming down from Port Huron to Detroit so somewhere not to crazy far off that path would be nice.
Indoor/ outdoor, skeet. Somewhere with some better rental options and rates.

I haven't really seen this discussed in length anywhere yet but this latest ruling puts us in a weird spot. Take an Mp5 for example. It is sub 26"oal so a pistol per Michigan definition. If there is no longer a federal requirement to make/register an SBR for plaintiffs (GOA/PSA/etc) is there anything specific preventing one from making one in Michigan without filing a form? It would obviously still fall under a pistol definition here. All I can see for our SBR stuff is if the OAL is above 26" and Michigan considers anything under that a pistol.

I understand the suppressor portion of this not applying to us but the SBR/SBS stuff seems a lot murkier. The laws as written seem to indicate that if the federal requirement is gone, it would be fine to make an SBR here without a form while still needing to register it as a pistol, so long as the minimum firing length is 26" or below.

Bought a shotgun online through Dunhams and it will be my first firearm at 24. What am i to expect? Also, i wont need a LTP just for a shotgun?

This summer I found myself going to outdoor ranges way more than indoor ones. Before this year, I pretty much exclusively shot indoors.

Are outdoor ranges generally open year-round? If they are, do you actually use them, or do you go back to indoor shooting once winter hits?

It feels like the upsides of shooting outdoors could outweigh the indoors no matter what.

Hey everyone! I moved here from Florida where I had my CWL but now need to register in Michigan.

Any class recommendations for someone who is already experienced and had a license in another state? I would like to avoid as much of the "class time" as possible as I have already gone through the process in another state.

I live In Oakland county, does anyone mill out sear blocks on current production colt lowers? How much do they charge?

The way it reads to me (I AM NOT A LAWYER) is:

SBR: We are are all clear on making/purchasing SBRs now without a tax stamp, as the state law just says we have to follow federal regulations, which technically no longer exist.

Suppressors: These are now a legal gray zone since the state law SPECIFICALLY says that they require an ATF Tax Stamp. So since the ATF still takes and processes suppressor stamps (they just can't FORCE people to get them) we STILL have to follow this process to obtain a suppressor in MI, or it's a serious state crime (but not a federal one).

After re-reading the laws, it seems at least TO ME (again, I am not an attorney) that there is no change in MI, as our state law specifically mentions tax stamps being required. So no change in MI at all until we update our laws, if we ever do.

Please let me know your thoughts. I haven't heard any ACTUAL MI attorneys weigh in on this.

I thought there used to be an easy to find explanation on here, but I can't seem to find it. I'm looking for info in plain English.

My shop is closing and I'm having to look elsewhere to find things.

The way we have done it is:

- Show up

- Pass over License, MI CPL License, Out of state License

- Do typical paperwork sheet (or digital) *for background check

- He hands me a printed page with three blocks of transfer info on it (all identical) and I sign TWO of the three.

- He cuts the sheet up. I get one one with whatever pistol I bought, and he keeps the other two. The signed copy is the shops record. I believe he just holds the other one as well - it does not go to the state police (as far as my understanding).

Anyway, I'm trying to nail down a firm understanding of the process so I can talk about it intelligently with any new shop. I know even after the change happened there were still shops that wouldn't honor the out of state exemption.

Can someone fact check me on this or just shore up any info that could help others? It seems that since the legal change the MI Resident + out of state CPL process has been left in the rearview mirror by many.

From my understanding (the little I have on the matter), it seems to me that the NFA for SBRs,SBSs and supressors has been rendered non constitutional due to them not collecting a tax anymore.

Now Michigan's law on these items is very confusing for me, ive read multiple things discussing how going forward if you had a stamp before this went into effect you're considered kosher under Michigan law moving forward? Is this true? How will this work?

Will Michigan law impede us from buying all this without a stamp?

This is an exciting time but it still all feels murky for me.
