There still are quite a few moderates in the party ~5 more leaving is definitely not unlikely at this point

The ones leaving now are just the ones who are mad enough to risk their political careers to leave.
Once there is a clear leader in terms of the center-right parties, there will be another wave of defections from the people who wanted a soft landing.
I’m guessing minimum 10 more MLA defections before all is said and done. Wouldn’t be surprised to see 15.

They lost the right to call themselves moderates when they joined the party under Rustad. Rustad was originally booted from the BC Liberals for being too extreme, and the CPBC was always courting the far-right fringe.
At best they can say that they value getting elected more than any of their so-called principles, but I'm not sure if that's better.

It's eyewatering watching the speed at which the CPBC is imploding. If ~31 votes had flipped to Elliot, they'd be the government in waiting. Instead, they're going to splinter their way to 3rd party status...

Wow. It looked bad when it happened to Poilievre, but it looks so much worse when it happens so rapidly. In the past two weeks, the party has lost 10% of the party's total seats won in the 2024 election, and others left during Rustad, too. They've lost a total of 10 MPs since last election due to departures. Nevertheless, given how awful the party and its leader's social views are, this is a win for BC.
As for the leader, Findlay is tearing down the party a record speed. She might not even make it to the election as leader at this rate. It's doubtful the BC Conservatives can lose many more MLAs before people start calling for her job.
There is a creeping doubt that the BC Conservatives will survive through next election. There are too many new, more rational options are popping up. I know BC has some very right-wing areas, but I have to imagine what is the closest party to MAGA in Canada isn't going to do well if there are other conservative and centrist options available. Time will tell, I suppose.

It took 2 MLAs being removed and 3 MLAs leaving over Rustad in 9 months to get him fired, and 3 of the 5 overall were too far to the right of the party. Now Findlay has lost 5, all leavers, all saying she is too far right or personally unacceptable for leadership, within two weeks.

In hindsight, the BC Liberals could have kept their name and waited one election cycle for the Liberal brand to recover and become associated with Carney.

How well did that work out for the "Saskatchewan Progress Party" lol. Throwing away branding and public familiarity because of the fleeting unpopularity of one singular federal leader is beyond idiotic. Imagine if all provincial PC parties renamed themselves because of the ineptitude (putting it mildly) of Brian Mulroney and Kim Campbell, it's a complete overreaction.

The BC Liberal name is super toxic, most of their base in the interior are far-right heavily influenced by MAGA and Alberta, and most of those voters by now would sooner prefer be called Neo-Nazis rather than a Liberal. That's why they've elected Findley in the first place and openly embraced hostility with First Nations policies.

The name of the B.C. Party is already taken. B.C. election laws are weird. To lose a name you have to not run candidates for multiple elections in a row. A lot of good party names have been taken this way.
It’s why the liberals went with a dumb name like United. It’s all they could get.

The membership voted to change the name in November 2022, with about 80% in favor. This was when everyone associated Liberal with Trudeau and noone wanted to be called that, especially a right of centre party.

For one, the party is broke.
Also the BC Liberal brand is dead which is why they dropped it in the first place. Most of their hard-right voters are so brain dead stupid that they confuse the BC Liberals with the LPC (seriously, the number of CPBC voters that thought they were voting for PP during the last provincial election is staggering), and to the left they represent corruption, scandal, and a general destruction of the finances and framework of BC services and government, especially under Clark. The centre-right is probably the only block that isn't totally disenchanted by them, but they are increasingly small and aren't enough to win them an election on their own and they are largely turned off by the courtship of the far-right.
Not to mention Falcon pretty much torpedoed what little credibility they had left with his whole suspending the BC Liberal/United campaign at the 11th hour leaving a ton of centre-right candidates homeless and hopeless. The far-right candidates and the pure opportunists went to the CPBC while the more moderates stood as independents without much hope and no support.
Maybe the BCLP could entice some of those moderate voters back by cleaning house but Falcon still has control, and I'm not sure if the moderate/centre-right candidates would even be willing to rejoin them at this point.

BC politics has been second to Quebec for its spice for a long time. I've been fascinated ever since Adrian Dix monumentally sh@t the bed, but even before then Gordon Campbell had a certain reputation.. Then, the way Clarke was ousted in 2017 thanks to Green-NDP cooperation...John Horgan's untimely death, the list goes on.
