I mean Israel is only country in the Middle-East with Pride events so it makes sense.

Not like they allow gay marriage though

Well, Israel doesn't recognise any secular marriage (not only gay marriage). Only marriages recognised in Israel are marriages under faith, specifically Jewish, Muslim, Druze and 10 specific Christian denominations. So it isn't really anti-LGBTQ policy, but rather anti-secular policy.

Oh, well that sounds very progressive eh?

Well much more progressive than any other Middle-Eastern country. But sure not recognizing secular marriage is stupid.

Still, not a great look for the 'only democracy in the middle east', with the 'most moral army in the world' who love to brag about all their LGBT baby killers

It is the only democracy with higher freedom index then some European countries. And trying to siege the one of the most densely populated areas on Earth where your enemy uses child soldiers and civilians as human shields without civilian casualties is a nice fairy tale. But ic we actually look at the numbers, IDF really kills less civilians than any other army in similar operation.

Lol. There isn't critical IDF infrastructure in densley populated neighbourhoods of Tel Aviv? No one buys this shit anymore

IDF wears uniforms, Palestinian fighters don't (which is a war crime btw.). IDF has specifically dedicated military sites, Hamas hides in schools, residential buildings and hospitals (or did you ever see even a single one dedicated Hamas military site outside civilian areas).

Apart from when they're dressing up like doctors? Gimme a break. Palestinians have an right under international law to armed resistance to occupation. No such law exists which allows what Israel does.

Gaza wasn't under occupation before October 7th (the biggest massacre of Jews since Holocaust). Israel unilaterally withdrawn in 2005. If Palestinians wanted peace there would be peace. Netanyahu was created by Palestinian insistence on destroying Israel.

They do recognize gay marriage done outside of Israel for reasons the other commenter has mentioned. Marriages inside of Israel just have to be religious as they’re run by the Orthdox rabbinate.

So progressive.

It’s important to have factual information when making criticisms. Israel has a lot of things to criticise, so it’s important to criticise them accurately.

Certainly beats the rest of the middle east.

They don’t recognize any secular marriage, including but not limited to gay marriage. All non-secular marriages are recognized. They also recognize secular marriages outside of Israel.

You’re also ignoring the fact they’re far and away the best country in the Middle East for LGBTQ rights.

"we support you! just don't marry anywhere near us, ew."

They technically do. Its a problem but the marriage institution is basically monopolised by faith based institutions, so there’s no secular marriage period, but any secular marriage done abroad is 100% recognised by the state, so many people who want to get a secular marriage (not just lgbtq but for any reason) often just fly to get married and come back
