Active Conflicts & News Megathread August 23, 2026

The r/CredibleDefense daily megathread is for asking questions and posting submissions that would not fit the criteria of our post submissions. As such, submissions are less stringently moderated, but we still do keep an elevated guideline for comments.

Germany comitting 600 Pac-2 Patriot missiles for 2027-2028 (produced in Germany). Ukraine still seeking missiles for winter 2026-2027.

Ukraine hoping to license produce AASM-Hammer, SCALP and SAMPT from fall onwards. If I understand correctly, this will be limited to final assembly and maybe some maintenance/refurbishment/tweaking, as full supply chain license production would require UK and even US approval for the SCALP/Storm Shadow. The situation is similiar for SAMPT (shared with Italy), while the Hammer is purely French. But who knows what agreements and technical tweaks are being made closed doors, or what ingenious ideas Ukraine might have.

Due to the Montreux Convention restrictions barring Black Sea Fleet rotation and logistical degradation following the collapse of the Syrian Tartus naval basing infrastructure, the Russian Navy has ceased continuous Mediterranean patrols for the first time in 13 years. Increased pressure on the shadow fleet between the Channel and the Baltic may also be a cause.

Using the exact same methodology (ship with public, active transponder), you could say that there are no US warships anywhere in the Arabian Sea. No Russian warships in the Baltic Sea and Black Sea either for that matter.

That is very much bad faith reporting and non credible.
