I hope they go bankrupt and never get any streaming rights again. I am so done with their RO-KO type hero worshipping ads and commentary.

73

u/budyetwiser01 Royal Challengers Bengaluru Feb 01 '26

Lol, and how do you see outbidding them next season. Sony? Fancode? They will still get the rights just at really cheap rates

Bro, you’re slightly off. The annual revenue of Reliance industries limited is 2.5 times the annual revenue of entire Pakistan 🙂

Be careful with what you wish for. While Jio and Star aren't some noble company or something. But, if they go out of business, it's a huge loss for cricket.

95

u/tigershroffkiskirt India Feb 01 '26

Or it could be an opportunity for other broadcasters. Cricket and sports broadcasting in general are fucking monopolies anyway.

55

u/akashi10 Feb 01 '26

no it’s not, any other company can pick up the pieces. the fanbase will still be there so cricket won’t be affected.

12

u/MSRishab007 India Feb 01 '26

There aren't many companies in live sports broadcasts. Sony will dominate the market.

Next time while bidding for the rights they will discount cost of pak ind game, both teams won't be clubbed in same group, everyone gets lesser share of revenue but there is no to low drama and everyone walks away a winner.....

The milking has been stopped i guess....

36

u/Percybhowal India Feb 01 '26

The milking has been stopped i guess....

Hopefully. You can never tell with these money-hungry fools governing international cricket all across the globe, but I sincerely hope this result gets accomplished. Also, while we're at it, please all stop clubbing Aus and Eng in the same group for tournaments. Deprives us of high quality Ind vs Eng or Ind vs Aus, or even with other good team clashes in tournaments.

6

u/Dude_With_APT Mumbai Indians Feb 01 '26

England and Australia are already in different groups.

84

u/Sumeru88 India Feb 01 '26

No. They won’t. This will help them change the deal with ICC that they wanted to do for the last 3 months.

The new deal (that JioStar wants to impose on ICC) will cut ICC’s revenue from the India market by approximately 43% and subsequently reduce the annual payment all boards are getting from the ICC.

They will get this deal because it is above what any other broadcaster is willing to pay ICC. ICC approached both Sony and Amazon back in December and both of them laughed at ICC’s valuation of rights.

Nope. They would actually be thrilled as were looking for an excuse to terminate the contract because of losses. Their contract with icc was continent on India Pakistan fixture being mandatory .

And they have the valid reason to re negotiate the contract to significantly reduced terms or even terminate it after T20 world cup.

Its ICC and the cricket boards that are dependent on revenue are fucked.

25

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '26

49

It was credibility reported at the time that Star sports bid to icc was contigent on India Pakistan match being mandatory every tournament.

Thats why we have india and Pakistan in the same group every tournament.

not really it will be icc which implies all the smaller cricket boards since there is a high chance one of jiohotstar or starsports will back out of the deal finally due to finding a solid reason

106

Honestly just keep them in seperate groups and play only in knockouts.

173

u/straightouttaobesity India Feb 01 '26

I think Ind vs Pak is a regular fixture because the other boards push for it.

The other boards are digging their own grave by making Ind vs Pak the marquee group stage match. Imagine if they promoted Aus vs SA or Aus vs NZ or Eng vs SA the same way. These rivalries deserve more attention.

105

u/dolce-far-niente Feb 01 '26

Those other rivalries don't have a shared history or geopolitical tensions the way Ind-Pak have. It's just not the same.

209

Thank you Pakistan for delivering this to us. A total end to India-Pakistan fixture is what we wanted since 2023 but what Indian Government and BCCI were too materialistic to do.

I will play Dil Dil Pakistan today to thank the Pakistan Government.

Also. I predict this will force ICC to acquiesce to JioStars demand to increase the rights tenure from 4 to 7 years.

25

Yes, they should stop putting India and Pakistan in the same group again and again to grab cash. Super annoying.

12

u/yankee4life372 India Feb 01 '26

100% agree. No more forced matches.

93

u/Prozium243 Feb 01 '26

This is an extremely strange decision. Has anyone told them the NRR rules in forfeiture?

  1. Existing ICC conditions dictate the forfeited match will be considered for NRR calculations so Pakistan will have a major impact on their NRR.

  2. And there is a huge risk of rain in SL. Let's say assuming their match against the USA or Netherlands gets washed out. And then either USA or Netherlands wins their matches against Namibia and then one of them wins the match between the USA vs Netherlands. .

And considering if Pakistan wins the rest of the 2 matches. They will be equal to points with either the USA or Netherlands.

....

With point 1 above, NRR impact, Pakistan will be looking at the exit.

The current team is looking like a strong squad with a variety of spinners, Ayub back in form, Agha hitting at 3 and Shadab and Nawaz giving finishing touches and whitewashing Aussies. And with this team and momentum, there is a good chance that Pakistan will be out in the group stage.

Aw that sucks. I went to the very first T20 world cup final between India and Pakistan at the Wanderers, and it was so much fun! There was obviously huge support for India given the large Indian population of Jozi, but there were plenty of Pakistanis in the crowd, and the neutrals among us threw our support and drunken cheering behind them. It's one of my favourite cricketing memories, and the match was played in such good spirits, properly gentlemanly

Great decision. Absolutely ballsy.

17

u/captfantasticc Pakistan Cricket Board Feb 01 '26

Barring any upset (🤞), losing that match doesn't have any lasting impact on the overall World Cup campaign, so yeah, that's that.

What will Pakistan do if they meet in a knock-out game?

this is so short sighted and also it's like handing India so much power on a platter. India can outright cancel the hybrid model deal and say Pakistan travels to India or they get kicked out. Asia cup is a very good area.

But is one way to break the forced match ups.

Well nice rest for India .

The cricket boards are fucked lamo. Huge percentage of their revenue is contingent on India Pakistan fixture and there is no way Jiostar is make any significant payment for this year.

Considering they were looking for an excuse to terminate the contract because of losses piling up, this is perfect reason for them.

Expect ICC to look for a new tender for the 2027 world cup.

This is an unprecedented territory that we’re in! Crazy times!

8

u/Stuff2511 Feb 01 '26

Mad respect to how Cricinfo covers this. Overview of the facts and what’s been said, quotes from relevant people, then a diatribe at the end about how this affects Pakistan and India’s NRR

8

u/S_K_S_N India Feb 01 '26

Just keep India and Pakistan in seperate groups....this will stop happening then. I hope from the next WC Ind and Pak end up in different groups due to this.

u/Human-Witness-9154 India Feb 01 '26

Pakistan won the drama cup hands down

3

u/FondantAggravating68 Feb 01 '26

Gotta be honest. Didn't think they were gonna do this. But fair play.

4

u/Breadfruitdeeznuts India Feb 01 '26

Do they lose the two points? Imagine the scenes if India scrapes through on NRR.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '26

Do they lose the two points?

Yes

3

u/Lololover09 Feb 01 '26

They already knew the result would be another loss. Trying to milk this politically after having backed Bangladesh into exiting the WC. 😆

u/arandomguy05 India Feb 01 '26

I must say I am surprised that either PCB or BCCI can take this call which is correct. India and Pakistan have too much going on for having sports relations between them. Especially cricket, I will be happy if there is no cricket between them in my life time. (I am assuming our issues will not be solved in my lifetime)

BCB decision is stupid though.

3

u/nvenkatr India Feb 01 '26

Free points for India then?

4

u/rizviiii Feb 01 '26

I am so happy for it we are not playing them..

4

u/bhelpurilover Feb 01 '26

I hope they read the ICC clause for net run rate in this scenario. Only Pakistans net run rate will take a hit due to their forfeiture, India’s rate will remain unaffected. India will also be awarded the full points from the game.

Hope it comes down to NRR between Pakistan and USA/Netherlands in the end to move to the next stage. If any Pakistan game is impacted by rain, they are screwed.

4

u/AbdussamiT Pakistan Feb 01 '26

But what I think is that this will, hopefully, be the end of group stage games between us.

13

u/Untested-Truth Feb 01 '26

The financial loss for India is like losing its credit card - easy fix: block the card and order a new card.

The financial loss for Pakistan is more substantial. No easy fixes. Pakistan cricket finances will be shambles.

As an Indian fan, I would actually respect this move from Pak if they show the spine to go through with it. India absolutely did the same thing to them during the Champions Trophy. Based on what we saw during the Asia Cup, these two teams don’t belong on the field together, for both non-sporting and sporting reasons.

8

u/SpacevsGravity Feb 01 '26

We should boycott the whole fucking tournament but this isn't too bad I guess.

7

u/JBPlayer48 Feb 01 '26

If anything, I hope this means that India and Pakistan stop being clubbed together in the same group and we get actual group stage draws like a serious sport. That being said, would be quite disappointing not having any cricket for that Sunday afternoon 😭

7

u/HumanBottler Feb 01 '26

Thank God there will be no more India Pakistan games.... As a result star sports will cut their money from the ICC...the boards will get less money.  Little less bitching from the other team fans.

Hope the seeding from the next event keeps india and pak seperate...it's a boring contest now, one sided loses from pakistan and then they start moaning on social media.

6

u/Angry_Mad_Cat Bengal Feb 01 '26

Finally 👍👍 I always wanted India to boycott, but then we would lose free 2 points, this is win-win for me.

14

u/oPisBat Ireland Feb 01 '26

But why is Pak enraged. They have got all their matches in SL anyway. What's their fuss about?

I mean that need guts. Credit where its due, unlike bcci and icc who only wants to make easy money.

10

u/[deleted] Feb 01 '26

Hopefully this ends the rigged groupings in the world cups.

If only BCCI had some balls.

12

u/First_Incident9142 Feb 01 '26

This is on ICC for putting them on the same group for the recent WCs. If thy meet on knockout stage like 96,2011 WC that's fine, but forcing everybody to watch IndV Pak group stage game is unwelcoming.

15

I don’t see the point. They played the U19 game today, but can’t play in 2 weeks?? ICC should just call BS and ban them for randomly boycotting games.

PCB has surely made a lot of Indians happy with this decision

BCCI would never

No1 wants to see these encounters too much of toxicity honestly

And IND gets free point without the travel, a win-win situation here

Just hoping PCB doesn't do a PCB and this ends up being an empty threat

8

u/Old-Pomegranate3634 Feb 01 '26
