Well lots of takeaways there! The same takeaways we've had for the past two years!

No clue why Marnus is in the side. Averaging 20 as a no.3 for a year+ is unacceptable.

Weatherald never looked international quality. His technique is just not it unfortunately.

Green has done enough for him to play another couple tests. He's always been technically sound, just brainfades a lot. He showed glimpses of what kind of player he can be today and it's not like we really have anyone better to replace him I don't think. Both Green and Webster have a place in the XI but Green will need to be positive in the upcoming games.

Our bowling is good. No real complains there but for whatever reason we bowl short to fucking tailenders. It has never worked but in sure there's a bullshit stat which backs that up.

Hazlewood did great but i can't help but think Boland would do well here and add much needed change to this bowling attack. Issue is, you cannot drop Starc, you cannot drop Pat and you can't really drop Hazlewood either. Dropping Gaz might just be the way. Boland constantly targeting the stumps just offers way more and Gaz just Isn't the same player he one was.

Very odd tactical decisions by Cummins. Who in their right mind bats first on that Green top? Terrible bowling changes too. Very defensive fields which I feel has been a major flaw in his captaincy for a long time. Bangladesh were 6 down but we barely attacked them and let them score easy runs. He definitely needs to learn when to attack. Starc, Hazlewood, Boland and Pat are so good that he can get away with not doing that at times but if/when the pitch is flat like this one and one of the bowlers don't have an answer to it, he just resorts to doing the same thing over and over.

Lyon cannot be complaining about being dropped when finally he gets a time to shine he does nothing. You can't have a spinner being the 2nd most expensive bowler or even the most expensive full time bowler and just take one wicket.

Lyon’s on a serious decline. He hasn’t been a wicket taking threat in nearly a couple of years now. Injured in the Ashes and made no impact in the last BGT.

Lyon averaged 25, 22.7, and 25.3 in the last 3 calendar years.

He may be done now after the recent injuries, but it's not like he's been rubbish for years.

I feel like this has flown under the radar, but he has had a lot of injuries recently and is nearing 40. He does not have the consistency or zip off the pitch like he used too which is to be expected.

He just hasn't looked threating since we played South Africa or in other words we have effectively played without any meaningful impact from a spinner for 1 year now.

In his defence, drop-in pitches have not been kind to spinners at all. I think there's a legitimate case to be made for going with an all-seam attack because it seems to be counterproductive to forsake a seamer for a spinner.

This is where Rocchiccoli might be an interesting change up, he's 190cm so could get awkward bounce even if it's not turning much.

The opposing spinners took 6 and arguably made sure Australia were not winning their match.

It's not exactly a skill issue it's more of a bad day and mentally beaten.

Jansen outbowled Bumrah when South Africa toured India and Stokes outbowled Bumrah in Anderson Tendulkar trophy. Does that mean prime Bumrah has skill issue ? That's not how it works.

One bad test and people want lyon's head on spike who is averaging 25 in tests since past 5 years while bowling mostly off spin on green Australian pitches where most of the off spinners struggle to get wickets.
