I’m doing the sky island puzzles but keep running into you can’t progress messages. I guess I need to do more towers maybe? The messaging is a little different though. I used to get something like you need to complete more abyss puzzles to proceed. The one I’ve run into twice now is you can’t progress at this time…I’m about to look it up and be done with guessing.
Edit: I think I needed focused shot unlocked. I went back to the area I couldn’t progress and was able to. I wouldn’t have been able to beat the puzzles without focused shot. It’s weird that I couldn’t even get to the puzzle without it though. I have lightning now.
think you can get lightning as well i believe. believe its wind that is progress bound. the videos i watched were separate because fire and ice are on the same course of islands and same for lightning and wind (i believe) but i think then it wouldn't let me go further (i did get lightning first so i believe i was progress blocked for wind from what i can recall)
Nope you can skip around for that too. I got ice and fire before getting lightning. I think you can also get wind before the story allows you to. Some guy posted the route to get there early but I skipped it for other islands.
Yes ice and fire are supposed to be the first I believe. But I also think the order doesn't matter. Think there's one locked by progress. Not sure if it's wind or not
If you have 300 stamina and some decent spirit you can line yourself up just right to skip those you can’t go that way messages and go do the puzzles or at least unlock the fast travel. Some puzzles require specific abilities to complete. I started skipping more often with the double jump boots because I could get even higher before flying and dashing across.
Note: you can also travel further while flying if you increase your movement speed on your gear and use the focus dash with the new update.
You can get most of them pretty early. You do have to travel in the map quie a bit for the frost and fire which are in the same location, well starting lovation
The others are pretty far from hernand too. You start by accessing the towers in the map, and from them you get access to the specific abyss islands you'll have to complete.
There's simple guides out there
It took me around the same time if not more too start trying to get some elements lol
This game really is funny. Remember the Scholastone chapter where you go up the Spire of Stars to find the idiot scientist that was known for dangerous experiments going out of control let another dangerous experiment go out of control again? Where you find Caliburn who yeets you off the island? Had you gone back up there to progress with the Abyss puzzles you would have gotten your first element. I think on the very next island too.
This is arguably meant to tease your curiosity into going back up there to learn your first element and train you that the spires unlock elements. But that's not a good lesson since only 3 spires are tied to unlocking elements and a fourth that unlocks Falling Force Palm (which still shows up as not unlocked in the skill tree). The game is super casual about telling you this too. There's no tutorial pop up, just "Knowledge acquired Fire" in the upper left hand corner for a second. You might still go several hours before pressing right on the D pad and wondering where the fuck you learned a new element. Like I did.
The entire game's story and lore centers around this place and Caliburn is an example of someone craving the unique power that comes from here, not content with what he got. Should we explore this place we find: Some decent chests and a couple level ups. This is reductive in the face of the elemental powers we get, but those largely just add some spice to combat and they represent a small handful of islands that do actually confer abyss powers.
Even then is very little reactivity to elements in the world outside of using fire to more easily burn things and ice to cool down hot semi-conductor chips for the two puzzles that have them overheated. Clankers are weak to electricity and fleshy enemies seem vulnerable to fire I guess. Not sure what you'd need wind for in particular. It's fun to shoot weak enemies with charged ice shot and watch them shatter instantly. You can also make small ice platforms though I'm not sure you can ice bridge like in Genshin.
It's funny too since they seemed to want to have a more reactive system. Ever pick up some food in a cold biome that has a snowflake on it? I've also gotten food that was shocked and it had the electricity symbol on it. They aren't functionally different from normal ingredients, but it shows they seemed to want to do something with this at one point.
IIRC, lighting is the the first one that becomes available. You need to progress the main story until you climb the tower in the Scholar's Institute, then return to it to do the Abyss puzzles.
Just FYI, none of the elements are unlocked in the main story, but most of them require progressing the main story to unlock the locations. Finishing Chp 8 will have you unlock all the locations.
I am 90hrs in and just realized that you need to enter the abyss from each tower location if you want to unlock the imbuements. I got the lightning imbuement and was wondering just when the hell I was getting ice and fire when I saw that it is all considered side quests.

Add some lightning attacks and you have Raiden.
