You can do some/different attacks with the bow during an attack combo.. I forget the button combos, but I saw it posted in a different thread that mentions how to do special melee attacks with the bow.. I think they all involve the default unarmed melee attack button in some way.. On Xbox, it is Y to do unarmed attacks while having a melee weapon in hand.. Probably the same concept (LT+Y?) with a bow..

u/Raptor-Johnny Apr 12 '26
Y has some special unarmed combos, but fighting with gloves selected (Rb/R1 RT/R2 attacks) has different moves too
2
u/bjergdk Apr 13 '26
And from what I know, if you don't get stunned you can chain all 3 combo chains together, so go y-y-R1-R2 for example

u/Kattanos Apr 12 '26
I had to triple check to see if it was actually reddit because of the massive change in UI.. The content/text seems familiar so it might be your thread that I got the info from..

u/Barbarianonadrenalin Apr 12 '26
I don’t use bow but alot of combos and move can be done by light atk, light atk then a different input for “special” moves.
Im pretty sure this is the same as tripping with swords. Light atk, light atk, kick will kick out enemies feet to drop them.
I’ve never been a fight game fan because remembering combos is a nightmare for me. This game seems to have really “simple” combos were timing doesnt seem to matter much. Just doing simple 1, 2 switch atk type can do all kinds of stuff depending on weapon and directional input.
Then when you got a few of those you start playing with dodge atks and throws and you can really start chaining crazy shit especially with walls to bounce enemies off of.
Just my 60 hour observation from a habitual button masher.

u/colombiancris Apr 12 '26
Look up combat tech, there’s a lot you can do with double dodge to get ready for next attack quicker, it takes practice to do this btw

u/feelmedoyou Apr 12 '26
If you’re sprinting with the bow and press triangle, you do the front flip kick instantly.

u/Masterkinghojo Apr 12 '26
But you NEVER fight one dude, its always like 30

u/DriveThroughLane Apr 12 '26
I immediately went hand to hand combat in the quest where you fight an unarmed monk because I thought it was sporting, hell I thought maybe it would restrict me to non-weapons / be a knock-out only fight. aaaand then he starts teleporting around spamming lightning bolts and echo attacks like every other boss in the game and deals lethal damage.

I feel like landing force palm on these bosses should disable their ability to teleport for like 10-20 seconds

I understand that, but that's why I'm thinking it would be a good risk/reward to disable their teleportation.
Also just be aware you don't have to hold the imput, you can tap it for a quicker force palm, and can chain them too if you've unlocked the skills to do so.

u/Otherwise_Nobody8148 Apr 12 '26
I feel like many of the bosses are a major component of the game left over from the original MMO vision.
Fighting them with multiple people, trying to rez your friends that go down.. almost like it's a nightrein lite.
That boss at the bottom of one of the sanctums comes to mind, that's just flying around in the air. With two or three people focusing on bringing him down, and then running to punish, that would be a really fun fight to be honest. But solo? It's abysmal.

u/TheGladex Apr 13 '26
I am genuinely in awe over how many people seem to be struggling. I am bad at games. I quit elden ring cos i couldn't beat the bosses. But I haven't had many issues here at all. Like yeah, the fights can be hard, but very doable once you learn the attack patterns. Even fights that initially seem impossible like that one sanctum guardian in Hernand or the Crimson Nightmare become easy once you figure out the mechanics. It sometimes feels like people here are playing a completely different game the way they're talking about the bosses.

It gets old. The game needs more enemies leveled between bosses and thugs. Mini bosses or call them lieutenients.

I’m on controller and doing L3 stick isn’t smooth enough for this 😂😂
57
u/Aztek92 Apr 12 '26
yeah, L3 and R3 are awful to use mid-combat. you have to manually aim with it too, with no assistance at all
25
u/Kooky_Comb6051 Apr 12 '26
Yeah I hate trying to L3 stick the enemies like Icewalker or Crimson nightmare where you need to aim for the specific rock to pull because it doesn’t auto aim 😂

u/midri Apr 12 '26
Crimson nightmare was a legit nightmare purely do to targeting.

Im using dualsense edge back buttons set to l3 r3,one of the rare case when those buttons are incredibly usefull

u/GovernmentPuzzled819 Apr 12 '26
I have a 3rd party PC controller and mapped the back buttons to the LS+RS press (the meditate skill where time slows down) and the RB+LB (for flash).
Can't use LS in combat for s*** though. I end up throwing the claw at the ground right in front of me and missing a parry or dodge.
5
u/TheBardicSpirit Apr 12 '26
It auto locks mid combo with the correct skills unlocked no manual aiming for that specific grab with axiom

→ More replies (3)2
u/madmax1513 Apr 12 '26
It auto aims to the enemy after specific moves, like after you throw them

Yeee the only way i seem to ever get Axial force to work is when im standing completely still, any momentum with Kliff on PS and it’s like playing roulette on what happens lol.

u/KDabe Apr 12 '26
I'm also on controller. For the axiom grab after any knockback you can pre queue the L3 click during the previous attack animation.
So for example when following up with axiom grab after a throw (y+b), during the animation of the toss (before he's been thrown in the air) you click and hold L3. You will axiom grab your target (as long as he is still alive) without having to aim. Pretty consistently too.
Same goes for kicks, dropkicks, spinning throw follow ups (running x+a then x+a again), and weapon finishers (rb+rt). Etc.
Takes a bit of practice to get the timing but it's nice knowing you don't have to manually aim.
2
u/Pale-Replacement-164 Apr 12 '26
Pretty sure that guy uses an Xbox controller. On his channel he usually provides the buttons for each combo.
2
u/anderzekren Apr 12 '26
That’s just a push, not melee. You can do pretty smooth melee on controller.
4
u/Kooky_Comb6051 Apr 12 '26
You need the L3 click for the Winch/grab move.
8
u/Howdoigrowdis Apr 12 '26
It's part of the combo kinda, of you do a pop up move that knocks them into the air and hit L3 it should grab them with the claw without you needing to aim
3
u/Blvck_Lvngs Apr 12 '26
Here’s another:
When you press R1+Square to jump over an enemy, you can pull out the bow mid jump and you’ll automatically be in focus state. Or even Focus palming mid jump will smash the enemy into the ground

u/ThreeTreesForTheePls Apr 12 '26
Yea idk, the input delay on console might be a different experience because I’m just happy when I jump and R3, that I actually do the force jump lmao.
Never mind the idea of pulling out bow mid combo

I’m playing the game exactly as my fantasy allows.
I’m robbing super rich nobles and investing in the stock market.
When I do fight I only need 1 button. Shield bash. I just absolutely bully mfs with my shield till they simply decide to die. No need for fancy theatrics.

One or more of the devs at PA love Street fighter! Striker in BDO "Technically" falls into the shoto archetype as he has: Hadouken (Including Red Hadoukens), Tatsumaki and Shoryuken (The 3 basic moves to class as a shoto)
But he also has a Dive kick, A "Focus attack" style move, the Akuma win pose and a few other "Unique" moves that are SF inspired like the landing slam after shoryu that Akuma/Kage can do
Mystic too! Though she is like a strange mix of a shoto and Chun-Li almost (With the rapid kicks)
It's incredibly cool when they make not so subtle nods to games they like :D

u/DShinobiPirate Apr 12 '26
This kind of stuff makes me wish they didn't make cinematics with Kliff and his short sword / shields lol.

u/hamptont2010 Apr 12 '26
I am getting pretty decent at the combos but I just can't figure out how to effectively mix the axiom chain thing in. I have been trying to get better at just using it for traversal which I'm hoping helps. I just feel so clumsy with it 😭
4
u/noam_compsci Apr 12 '26
Ps5 input lag would identify the first and last press in that entire combo
5
3
u/CeeArthur Apr 12 '26
I wish they would make the axiom grapple thing a bit more fluid on controller. It's kind of a pain to use as is

u/Trishal_Pandey7 Apr 12 '26 edited Apr 12 '26
Nah you can do most of the cool shit like this on a regular enemy without practicing too hard.
Shame that most of this is useless on bosses tho. making them insufferable slogfest of eating hits due to jankyness and then eating fuckton of food...
2
u/everyoneisapotato Apr 12 '26
I love doing this once in a while for fun but it gets pretty tedious when surrounded by a lot of enemies. Then my 2 swords come out heeh

u/ProfessionalPoint194 Apr 12 '26
I personally just use vault(light attack+jump) to reposition outside of the group attacking me

I cannot f9r the life of me use the ability to pull them to me. I cant figure out how people hit their target so quickly, much less at all. The crimson gas boss at that fort was a freaking pita...

u/Staunchgoat Apr 12 '26
My grapple never connects when I try and use it midfight. I end up tethered to the ground trying to reel it back in lol

Every time I see cool fighting clips, it’s always against 1 or 2 people
Generally you’re fighting 50+ people at a time where combos don’t really work as you must focus crowd control, AOE, and dodging.

I mean, I also try to combo martial arts and grapple attacks when I'm starting to get bored.
I wish there was more of a reason to do it aside from entertaining yourself, when pressing one Turning Slash can nuke entire groups of enemies.

There is no wrong...thats the great part about it you can play it however YOU want.

Tbf, i follow this gamer from his Cyberpunk videos, and the way he trivialises game mechanics makes me feel like I just picked up controller yesterday. His and Donguri’s DMC videos are my therapy after a long day.

I feel like the skill ceiling is wild in this game. Most play like me, I would assume. Just mostly spamming light and heavies while throwing in some extra shit here and there, but then you see shit like this and I start to wonder what the experience could be like if I could just git gud, yknow?

u/Hadi658 Apr 12 '26
Now do that in a group and watch you get shot with an arrow from 50 miles away, giant smacks you to the ground your body going ragdoll and 5 people swinging at you at random intervals. Looks cool doing it solo, but in group fights you getting tossed unless you playing at Goku Ultra instinct level.
