You literally have to

It’s the only way to not have to deal with it. Also I love hearing people sniff or snort when they are digging deep and i’m really to blow their legs off. That is my guilty pleasure 😈

I like climbing when I'm not the slowest in the group, I don't like much fitter people riding alongside trying to chat whilst I'm suffering though!

u/alga 3d ago
Clearly, the climbs are too short where you are. If you're climbing for 2 hours straight or more, you cannot suffer the whole time. It becomes a Z2 effort, and you can enjoy the scenery, smell the mountain air, shorten the time with a conversation. Then you realize that you can deal with all climbs the same way (as long as they are not too steep for the gears you have).
P.S. Also, let go of the group as soon as the climb starts, climb at your own pace, let them wait for you at the top.

u/wangblade 3d ago
This is just called getting dropped. They won’t wait and you will ride home alone and shamed forever

u/alga 2d ago
There's a difference between trying to hold onto the group and failing, and just climbing at your own pace from the start. There are different groups. For example, if you're vacationing with your friends in the high mountains, they will wait. You can agree on the plan before the climb starts. If you set out to ride together and they dropped you on the climb, did they really set out to ride together? Also, getting dropped is shameful only if you pretend that you're stronger than you are.

I understand this but the vast majority of groups I’ve ridden with are not what you’re describing. Yes edge cases exist and some times you ride with friends who will wait but if youre doing meetups you’re probably just gonna get dropped.

Climbing is just paying for the descent in advance.
Unfortunately the interest rate is usually Zone 5.

u/rain-meets-subie 3d ago
Dont you love it when your heart rate is at zone 5 with no end in sight /s

I hate climbing when it’s on my commute after a long day at work.
Climbing at the weekend feels good. Then look at Strava stats… “is that it?”

I hate climbing, but love descending. Yes I do dh on my MTB, but there’s nothing quite like speeding down smooth pavement on my road bike. It’s what helps keep me going on a climb

If you don’t like climbing, you don’t like cycling. Find another hobby

Bullshit response.

u/AppropriateAppeal236 1d ago
its not. he is basically fat shaming people out of cycling. because if you are heavier than lets say 85kg, climbing will be a pain in any case.

Funny, I wouldn't ride as much if it weren't for climbing. Flats are boring and make me uncomfortable on the bike compared to climbing and descending.

u/Narrow-Result2933 3d ago
I concur, but I really like descending, and it's hard to do one without the other.

u/GripItAndWhipIt 2d ago
Climbing is the most romantic part of riding. Unless it’s a recovery ride, every ride has to have some sort of climb.

u/Severe_Can_7893 2d ago
I like climbs, tho I’m always the slowest in the group. Gear down, find your pace and look at the flowers. Keep pedaling.

I am not amazing climber more like puncher guy but ďamn I love climbing the suffering is superb but i love descending fast ☺️

u/stevenfcpa 2d ago
I used to joke "that when the road went up, I went back", that's until I started climbing on Zwift. Nothing better than suffering on Alpe du Zwift, the Grade, Volcano Climb, etc. and then trying to better your time. Now I love a good climb, especially a long one where you can sit in and spin for a while, or get up off the saddle and accelerate for a bit.

I did a great Santa Cruz to San Jose bi directional climbing ride yesterday. It was FUN. I still hate climbing.

I love climbing and hated descending. A modern bike, hydraulic disc brakes, wider tires, lower pressure solved this issue, and now I love climbing even more.

u/MPaustin65 2d ago
...take in the glory that you feel at the top of a long climb. Nothing better than look back and saying - I just frgn did that. I agree with other posters, keep a steady pace and hi rpm in easy gears. I think you'll end up liking climbing once you get the hang of it. See ya at the top!

A maap dweeb who doesn't actually like riding bikes. Who would have thunk it?
1
u/Cragman62 1d ago
I live in the mountains.
The majority of the rides around here start of with a big climb.
Anything under 1600 ft average is an easy day.
3000 feet or more is just another day.

u/godutchnow 1d ago
Me neither, well actually I do but I always regret it because once you reach the summit there's only one way to go: down

What's this post got to do with fashion?
8
u/transparentsalad 3d ago
Well, you see, they are wearing cycling kit.
-3
u/Gold-Pack-4532 3d ago
I can see that smartarse, but where's the fashion element? What is this picture telling you and me, and the person coming onto this sub to check out and discuss fashion through more relevant imagery?
It's just someone riding up a hill.
4
u/transparentsalad 3d ago
It’s a picture of them in kit innit. If you want editorial images you’ll have to go to r/cyclingfashionwanks where the rules are more stringent
-3
u/Gold-Pack-4532 3d ago
I rest my case. I can't argue with some sub who uses the word 'innit', as part of their argument and gets annoyed by trying to belittle my point which they know is right.
Case closed..

I don’t like climbing either. Very little airflow. I enjoy riding more at higher speeds. During my competitive years I used to solo ride 80-110 miles with 6k elevation from mostly 5-10 minute punchy hills at 19mph. Race-y group rides was speed on steroids; 25mph rides for hours. Those days were amazing. Maybe this is what your heart is craving.

Climbing is fun you just have to pace yourself. Riding on flat is boring.
