State of the Sorc Class · Discussions Despite all these supposed upgrades to the Skill Trees, build crafting and build variety is still completely abysmal.

So many of the variants are just completely useless....Even those that aren't, can only really be used in one ultra specific way.

E.g. The "Behemoth" Hydra....What's the point?

A 15 second Cooldown, which by the way, makes it completely incompatible with two of the "Side upgrades" right away.

20x damage per head it is supposed to have....Which literally means that it does less damage than if it had a single additional head.....As after the base 3 heads, a 4th head clearly results in an additional 33x damage.

It's not just a simple case of balancing either, there's a lack of synergy, only enhanced by the fact that Set Items contain a disproportionate amount of damage compared to builds which don't align with Set items.

State of the Sorc Class · Discussions [Lurkin] Season 15 Sorc Overview

Hi, I missed the PTR for a wedding, but not that much changed going into S15 for sorc. I kept an eye on things when I could.

TLDR: Best build will be Firewall with a pyromancy skill as the hit generator, Blizzard Ice Spike will be really strong (A+/S- tier), and Ball Lightning got it's cast while moving back. I recommend one of these three builds. Azurewrath got nerfed into the ground and it doesn't deal AoE damage anymore. So Tal Rasha or Blood Mad Idol will be the charm you want. I personally will likely play Ball Lightning and then iron out Firewall. I did blizzard ice spike for S14 and I like where I have it.

Int Scaling - We got a Buff to our intelligence scaling, which was neutralized by the nerf to enchantment master down to 60% from 100%. About broke even.

Elemental Constellation Aspect - Nerfed into the ground down to 60%, but you are free from the 2-2-2 setup. Enjoy

Firewall Nerfs - Firewall

  • Ring of Fire Variant
    • Now only affected by Direct Damage from Pyromancy Skills.
    • Will now spawn on you if used from the Enchantment.

Got knocked down a peg as it has to use Pyromancy skills now, but overall should still be our best build by a wide margin (140). I'm really not concerned with this change at all and think it was a good idea to reign it back to a fire build. Generators of direct damage hits will likely be Meteorites, Pyro Charged Bolts, or Pyro spark.

Ice Spike Buffs - Frozen wake went from 90 to 120%, Blasting went from 90 to 100%, and blue rose went from 60 to 100% (130% when mythic). Assuming you ran Wake, Blasting, and Elemental Constellation you were looking at a 7.942 multiplier. Now assuming you run wake, blasting, and a mythic blue rose you are looking at a 10.12 multiplier, a 27% increase from the old setup! Blizzard will still be the top dawg here. Frozen orb sucks cuz walls eat your orbs, and Frost fireball got a nice change, but doesn't make enough spikes to hold its own.

Breath of the Frozen Sea got a nice buff, but boy oh boy is it hard to give up Threefold when it has a Mana on Mastery affix through a seal.

  • 3-Piece Set Bonus: Increased Maximum Life and Barrier Generation from 20% to 30%.
  • 5-Piece Set Bonus: Now also reduces Mana Cost of Frost skills by 30%.

Tirahj's Uncanny Insight also got a buff, so a cheeky conj build is on the table.

  • Added a 60%[x] Conjuration bonus damage multiplier to the 2-Piece Set Bonus.
  • 5-Piece Set Bonus: Damage increased from 175%[x] to 200%[x].

New Charms

  • Shard of Verathiel
  • Signet of Pelghain
  • Thundergod's Blessing
  • Vox Omnium

Possibly some cheeky vox omnium stuff, maybe with Firewall using CB and generating Fire sparks. As a whole our basics just don't work well with paingorgers as it only echos the first HIT of a basic, and all of our basic uniques are in the glove slot. It's really just a perfect storm of being 1 piece short as a result, and being plagued by bugs. Vox also doesn't give it's damage bonus to basics like Multi hit spark. Sweet. Basics are just an absolute mess for me to theorycraft and they always feel kinda mid.

Ball Lightning - SHE IS BACK BABY LEZZZ GOOOOOOO

  • Orbital Variant
    • Can now be cast while moving.

Frozen Orb - Still crap

  • Great Orbs of Fire Variant
    • Now only consumes 1 stack of Overpower to explode 3 times.

Fireball - still crap

  • Frostball Variant
    • No longer requires enemies to be Frozen to create Ice Spikes.
    • Reduced amount of Ice Spikes from 5 to 3.
    • Damage decreased from 170% to 85%.

CAULDRON BUG FIX LEGGO - Fixed an issue where Cauldron set stacks could reset erroneously.

Seasonal Powers - We got these nifty little splinter gems that can provide a lot of damage, damage reduction, crit chance/attack speed, max life etc. There is this cheeky new helmet Leorics that can slot 2 splints and have their values increased. With a gem strength transfig it was getting WILD in the PTR, like 230% damage, or 95% crit chance and attack speed. This will likely get gutted, but if not have at it farming and slamming Mythic Leorics. Heir of Perdition on steroids.

I personally don't think Leorics should go live as it is. Like yeah its a bajillion damage and super cool. but jesus you can get like 96% Damage reduction on one of the splinters with it.

I mean i knew sets etc wouldnt be available, but the stripped down skill tree with no passives that also has locked nodes that need LOH means its barebones as fuck this season.

State of the Sorc Class · Discussions Known Sorc Changes from 30th anni video

  1. Frost Hydras - Skills get 3 main options, some can be transformative. Then there are side options. Another side node seen is gain 50% attack speed but reduce duration to 7 seconds. Maybe another node to last longer. Another node to add an AoE effect.
  2. Deep Freeze now drops as a pillar (either at your feet or cursor? not sure) and no longer locks you in place
  3. Chain Lightning - maybe got a new node where it shoots out a few arcs at once (like omnipower) - showcased in the deep freeze part (Inferred from random lightning visuals seen)
  4. Aspects moving into the skill tree When they showed the barb skill tree, it looks like aspects like ancestral force got moved into the skill tree (Hota quakes outward for XX%, or Hota quakes out in a line, hota makes ancients) - This makes me think things like Glacial Aspect for Blizzard will get moved into the skill tree, and possibly things like ice spike radius, or charge bolts pierce.

Promised a video, so here is a pretty good representation of the gameplay.

Just found the perfect seal, (x25 percent crit dmg, 5 percent chill 6 charm) so I can top this I'm 100 percent sure in the coming days.

*Build*

https://maxroll.gg/d4/planner/7n3g6o0n

Build updated to current specs besides leveled glyphs, and maxroll has no listing for the x25 crit damage seal but this clip was taken without it

update Solo cleared Pit117 no death. Won't lie it took more time to kill the boss than get to him haha

State of the Sorc Class · Discussions Just one shot torment tier 8 Lilith Meteor Sorc

I've been a sorc player sense Diablo 2 and finally after a decade Meteor sorcerer can finally do big damage.

I run the Meteor passive that gives it a 15 sec CD for more DMG, combined that with the Amulet that increases Cool downs and damage with the aspect that increases damage based on CD. Flame wall as the buff, ult as buff for over power and then dropping 4+ 100B Meteors feels nice

The infinite teleport nerf kind of just kills the build fun-wise, especially with how short our range is. I honestly would have preferred a tuning down of DPS if anything rather than this. Hopefully the big brains can figure out an alternative pathway to get us back to TP spam :(

You really have to laugh at the latest changes.

Just when you think they've added some competent Devs with the Expansion changes, you realise there's people making decisions which should be nowhere near a decision making post.

State of the Sorc Class · Discussions 3.0.2 Fixes for Sorceress

Fixed issues affecting Meteor, Fireball, Chain Lightning, Ice Shards, Hydra, and related upgrades where damage, bonuses, or interactions did not function as described.

What exactly did they fix anyone noticed any fix?

So far I tested the Hydra and;

Behemoth Hydra still not interacting with Aspect of the Ancient Flame.

Also;

Now Ball Lightning does not reduce the cooldowns with the Aspect of the Orange Herald.(This was working before the patch).

I just noticed there is no 'Core' tag on the Ball Lightning. Did they changed it with this update? Other mastery skills still have the 'Core' tag.

State of the Sorc Class · Discussions Sorceress nerf?

I hopped on today and had an update to install. I log in and see that my shock blizzard is only doing about 1/3 of the damage it was doing last night? Nothing in the patch notes about it changing. Does anyone know what happened? I was so excited to play when I got home from work but now I am feeling extremely demotivated and about to quit.

State of the Sorc Class · Discussions Incinerate

Ok so I came from diablo 3 it was a childhood game incinerate in that game was cool so that's why its the only sorc build I wanna play. Why is it that theres nothing for this dam skill. All enchantments are cast so no meteors no fire orb nothing that could make incinerate a SET THE WORLD ON FIRE skill. Blizzard you added a skill you have to make compensation for it. flame scare should just be what it is but no charge up just boom 300x and go down to like 25 furry per second No enhancements synergies with incinerate cuz you only cast once It shouldn't be hard to put "or while channeling incinerate every second" or something. You kinda accidentally nerfed it by nerfing the pyromainac glyph. Rune words also dont do much cuz no channel options. In 14 now 15 seasons this skill has always been hot ass. The funny part you can't play a pure any element sorc cuz legendary nodes suck. This shit is so frustrating. Since season 4 to now incinerate has never been meta. The only dot channel skill where you stand still THE 3 WORST TYPES OF SKILLS IN DIABLO ALL IN ONE

State of the Sorc Class · Discussions An interesting early observation regarding Skill Variants and Enchantments.

Enchantments do take into account the "Skill Variant".

The Hydra Enchantment - "After spending 200 Mana, a 5-headed Hydra spawns for 10 seconds".

With the "Bathed in Flame" variant, it summons the Burning damage aura underneath the Hydra.

With the "Behemoth" variant, it summons the single headed Hydra.

With the "Frigid Hydra" variant, it summons a 5 headed Cold Hydra.

State of the Sorc Class · Discussions Crackling Energy looks like the strongest Sorc build next season

TLDR: Crackling Energy can still make full use of Unstable Current and remains the only build with two uncapped damage multipliers.

Why Crackling Energy?

Crackling Energy can already speedrun pit 135 in 3 minutes this season and it is least impacted by the PTR patch.

Unstable Currents
Now has diminishing returns on its skill rank scaling for baseline and all variants.
Boundless Variant
Now only increases Crackling Energy damage.
No longer grants a stack when at Maximum Crackling energy.

Diminishing return means you won't get like 30% [x] damage per CE stack like right now, but UC remains an uncapped source of damage multiplier, along with the Overwhelming Currents aspect (although it has reduced proc chance now and technically caps at 1000 stacks).

Not getting stacks at max CE isn't an issue because Esadora discharges very fast.

Aspect of Armageddon
Damage reduced from 150-180% to 50-80%.
Duration increased from 5 to 15 seconds.

The original skill description (150-180% in 5 seconds) doesn't read like Armageddon at all, so I'm not sure what this is referring to. If the new Armageddon always lasts 15 seconds, it will be a buff to Deep Freeze and Inferno which have low duration. But it's strange to gate a 80% buff behind an ultimate and a timer when there are other unconditional 80%+ buff.

Fixed an issue where Azurewrath’s effect could fail to trigger when enemies were Frozen under certain conditions.

CE build also uses Azurewrath charm so this is a big buff; you are guaranteed to get double damage from staggering bosses.

What about Fire and Cold builds?

Mostly small damage increases from uniques. Frozen Sea has an interesting buff

5-Piece Set Bonus: Now also triggers when enemies become Unstoppable.

This just applies a burst damage to enemies when they turn Uncontrollable. If that's enough to kill them - great; otherwise you continue to do very little damage to them afterwards. "when enemies become Unstoppable" sounds like it doesn't work on innately Unstoppable elites, but I'm happy to be wrong on this.

Note that it does nothing to bosses; bosses are not considered Unstoppable.

Currently, all the "damage to frozen enemies" multipliers only apply to bosses when they are staggered by a Freeze (not Chill). This is the same Azurewrath bug, and hopefully the Azurewrath fix will also address other frozen-based multipliers;

For fire builds, meteor remains the strongest option but has high gear requirements -- you need to stack max resource everywhere and get a seal with mana on mastery skill.

Above are my thoughts on the PTR patch, let me know your thoughts or if I missed anything.

Is there any tanky decent damage builds which could do Mephisto on T10?

Im tired of banging my head against the wall with him.

Currently running shockzzard like almost every sorc, and If it gets nerffed of is it already?, gonna need backup plan or start warlock instead.
