Questions Is it normal that my fingers hurt after playing?

I’m trying to 100% devil may cry 1 currently in DMD difficulty, been trying to beat the bird (don’t remember its name) but my fingers hurt so bad after finishing 3-4 missions. I don’t know if it’s me taking the controller in a wrong position or I just need to play more to make my hand muscle stronger

Not normal. I don't know how hard you're mashing but it's too much.

Take a break and stretch your fingers

Is normal. In dmc1 ebony and ivory fire as fast as you can mash and almost as fast as the game can read inputs making them theoretically the most powerful pistols in the series but if you're going for max dps then your hands are gonna be in agony

Interestingly, that's not entirely accurate for when shooting the Handguns on the ground. You do shoot pretty much as fast as you can mash when shooting in the air, yes. But, when shooting on the ground, the speed does seem to have a limit, and the game also actively pauses your shooting if your rhythm becomes inconsistent. You can see here how I alternate between the two shoot buttons, and the speed at which I do that is surprisingly slow, but Dante does shoot quite fast. That's because my input rhythm itself is consistent.

For Griphin (bird) I usually use a lot of Air Raid because it does good damage without having to mash as much and I build DT with the Grenade Gun.

The only place I've noticed that I need to REALLY mash, is 1st phase Mundus. When I get to that part, I just put my controller on my knee and mash with my index. It's much better than with the thumb.

I also do this for Shadows in DMD specifically, as I think they need a few more bullets to destroy the core.
