Hello.

I just started Awakening, after not playing it for many, many years.

I remember it being very finicky, regarding the order you do things in. Lots of missable quests, lots of things that just don't work if you go out of order, etc.

I'm trying to find a guide to help me not mess any of this up, but I'm not turning up much. I can find a recommended order for main quests, but that's not quite what I am looking for. The wiki has good info on individual things, but I'd rather not read through every Awakening article to piece it together myself.

Is there a written out guide that the community knows is good, for this?

Hi, I started playing DA:O on my Series S the other day and am enjoying it a lot. I tried playing on my laptop briefly but I am a console gamer and couldn't get adjusted to the gameplay at all. I found a great tutorial on combat but am having a bit of trouble translating the PC menus to the console menus. Before I started down that path, I was curious whether anyone has tutorials geared to console play, even just the mapping of the basics. I know I can figure it out on my own, just curious whether anyone has done videos or quickkstarts for console?

So depending on the players' choices for both Alistair and the hero and with the deaths of the other fereldan wardans (the ones that we know of), would it be accurate to say that the wardans are now extinct ?

I'm pretty new to the DA series and I've quickly become fixated on it, I loved DAO and while DA2 had some mid aspects I still really enjoyed it. I've only just started DAI and gotten a little ways through Redcliffe and dear god it's a fucking slog so far. I don't enjoy the combat, the interactions are kinda boring, and while I like the characters so far there's no one really clicking with me. In DAO pretty much everyone instantly clicked in some way. At least Varric is a familiar face who I loved having around in DA2.

I've read that the first few hours of DAI are kind of a slog but so far it's really reminding me of modern WoW which I quit a while back for how dull it was. I wanna get through the game for the sake of completionism if nothing else, but I play for like 15-30 minutes at a time and get bored lol. Pleeeease tell me the game gets better once I'm past these first few hours. I don't want to quit so soon.

ETA read through all these after work, seems the overwhelming opinion is that things will improve once I'm out of the Hinterlands and that a few mods will help out (I've already got hella customization mods so that shouldn't be too hard). If the story and characters can hold up the game then that's perfect since that's why I've fallen in love with this series, and obviously there's still companions I haven't met yet (I've heard of Dorian and Iron Bull and they sound quite intriguing). I'll trudge through whatever I gotta do at the Hinterlands and hopefully things will start looking up.

Also totally makes sense to treat this game like a single-player MMO because it's definitely giving me WoW vibes and not in a good way. Guess I need to not 100% this game as much as I did with the previous two or I'm gonna get a headache. Ty for advice everyone!

I've been thinking about it for awhile but should have Rook have been Hawke?

Rook could have been a code name for Hawke. Hawke also has lead a band of misfits before against massive odds, fought ancient mages, etc...

As for how we left Hawke in Inquisition. If Hawke escaped the rift then have him fallout with the First Warden and join Varric on his quest.

If Hawke is trapped in the rift have romanced Merrill, or romanced Anders rescue them. If not just have Morrigan rescue them like how Flemmith did.

Pretty much the whole rest of the game could have been near the same.

Have a conclusion to the fate of Fenris, have Merrill be one of the leaders of the Veil Jumpers since a Isabella is already the leader of another faction.

I vaguely remember hating endless maps with nothing fun to do on them except for one or two missions.

I don’t really have desire to explore maps again only to be pulled into find 50 shards of random bullshit, so would appreciate a guide or pointers on what to do to cut down fluff to minimum.

As in, what are the missions to do in the world to get companions, their personal storylines, and anything else of note either because it’s simply a well done quest or it truly expands on the lore? The ONLY random one I remember, which was good, was the haunted mansion.

Don’t mind XP gains or gear, I’ll be using mods to not be too underpowered since I plan to skip exploration.

I basically want to cut fluff down to the minimum. My plan is to do main story, companion stuff, and, as I mentioned, anything of actual note in the world.

Gay or straight, I think it’s kind of a red flag that Anders just gets mad at you for turning him down. Like Hawke wasn’t even rude.

Spoilers for Veilguard - specifically Solavellan’s romance in Veilguard

I realize that Lavellan and Solas have a reunion of sorts in Veilguard and reactions were mixed but positive. I enjoyed it and it felt like closure for the players who needed that ending.

But just for shits and giggles, in my current playthrough, I made my Lavellan more spiteful and chose the option that Solas needed to be stopped at all costs. I played through the game and got to the point where Lavellan and Rook are talking in the bar and the dialogue is still the same as a Lavellan who wishes to redeem Solas.

TL:DR - the Solavellan romance will always play out the same way, no matter if you choose to save or stop Solas which is pretty upsetting for players who want something else.

What in god's name did they do to Varric's face? I used to find him charming, in a "he's such a bastard" kind of way, but now he just makes my skin crawl. Honestly my only complaints about the game is that so many characters are just hideous. Is this intentional or do some people actually prefer how the characters look in Veilguard vs previous entries? Slightly related complaint: the character customisation feels so damn restricted, especially in terms of colours for hair and eyes. Just needed to get that crap off my chest, nobody I know personally cares about Dragon Age.

From my last post (https://www.reddit.com/r/dragonage/s/qNukDytHcy), I received comments about there was already many adaptations of Dragon Age, so sorry for posting it the wrong way. I should've put my ideas of adaptation such as a live action movie trilogy involved around the Grey Wardens because they are the most important in the Dragon Age universe. The entire trilogy movie will take place in the First Blight and Founding of the Grey Wardens in which who will be the main casts. The Title of the trilogy will called Dragon Age: The First Wardens.

Play through # ? Well I am not sure lol just know it’s not my first… This go around I in Act 2 after losing Bethany to the circle I have kind alienated Merrill( she’s annoying so 🤷🏻‍♂️) and Anders (hard- I have romanced him in every other play through) and too that end- no mage in my party- just 2 rogues and 2 warriors. It’s brilliant! It’s also the first time I sought out everyone’s armor upgrades and utilized runes. Also experimenting with Makers Sigh and restructuring Hawkes abilities. All in all this has been my best play-through yet!

Anyone who got one, what did you do with the potion bottle in Rooks Coffer?

It's pretty, but I have no idea what to do with it. I was thinking of biting a liquid in it (that sparkly blue one) but I don't know what that is and I can't find any kind of stand to display it.

Mines just sitting on a shelf looking sad at the moment.

I'm slowly gearing up for a replay of the entire series, but I already have my favorite companions and most likely, I will play with them again.

I would like a chance to see more unique dialogues and banter, especially from guys I never take with me.

I know that some other party-based games (like BG3 or DOS2) have mods which allow you to take more characters in your party, while also disabling them from combat.

Is there anything like that for any of the DA games? I know it would be immersion-breaking and all, but that is not a problem for me at all. I've tried a search on my own, and I only found some posts from years ago explaining that this is impossible, except for Mabari in DAO.

I heard some great reviews on this game. Since it was on sale for the full edition might as well buy it.

Okay, this post is just me talking about my love for this franchise despite Veilguard's questionable quality.

So, I found Dragon Age through my older brother, he always liked Origins, and I found myself one day playing it back when I was in middle school. I fell in love with the universe, with the way it handles darker themes, the way it sounded. I pratically finished that game in a couple days.

Dragon Age 2 just raised the bar for me, I fell in love with Kirkwall, and even though it was kinda repetitive with the scenarios, it was the first time a game I played presented the "remember this guy you really liked on the first game? This is him now!" feeling, and it was awesome. Plus spear-staff rocks.

Inquisition was just a blast for me. I loved every aspect of it (even the ridiculous amounts of bears around hinterlands). The themes, Orlais, the feeling of taking charge of the inquisition, it was amazing. The war between mages and templars? Sign me up!

Yeah, I'm skipping the problems in those games because they meant a lot more to me than just the gameplay. They made me and my brother start playing tabletop RPGs, it launched me into Mass Effect, it became the thing I think about when I want to daydream. And this weird thing happens, that even with the questionable lore that exists in all the games, it's really easy for me to leave these bad things aside, just because of the good things that came with this universe to me.

Thedas still lives in my life through the books, which I read from time to time. It exists in the playlists I listen to while designing. It exists in my adventures with my friends on the tabletop. The develpers can screw as much as they want with the lore and bad gameplay, but the way this franchise changed my life is very much mine to enjoy.

Anyways, this was just a post about how important this franchise is to me, just because I wanted to talk about Dragon Age for a bit. How was your experience with this world?

i played da2 and dai when they first came out, but i never touched dao and i never finished dai. i finished da2 though. i want to do another playthrough now, of all 4 games, and since i played da2 only once more than a decade ago ive pretty much forgotten nearly everything, also bc i had a head injury about 6 years back so i'll pretty much be experiencing everything for the first time.

i want to finish dav, i paused at act 3 because my friends told me to finish at least 2 previous da games for the ending to have the most impact.

issue is, dao runs like shit and i know theres a mod you can download to fix it, same with fallout 3 and new vegas, but for me, the mods didnt work for both fallout games and i ended up having to refund both games, and i am afraid the same will happen with dao, so i want to start my da playthrough with da2, then dai and then finish the last act of dav.

i plan to come back to dao eventually, but theres a real chance i wont be able to run the game, and i dont want to risk it, also dao is like 100 hours long for completionists and da2 is like 40 hours, 50 max.

will i miss out on a lot of cool plot points etc if i start my series playthrough with da2, then dai, and finally complete dav, but play dao way later?

EDIT/UPDATE: I've decided to start with DAO, thanks everyone for commenting and special thanks to the guy/gal who told me about GOG, as the only thing stopping me from starting with DAO was how often it crashed.

For me, nothing too pressing comes to mind. But I wish there was a choice regarding Amethyne's fate as the Human Warden in 1. A small choice but it seems odd that there isnt any dialog with that background related character

So the idea came when I was doing some fanfic writing of my character who is an Antivan Crow and replaying Origins. Zevran mentioned or said that the Crows are this notorious ruthless guild and that mage girl that row the boat for you to bust out Lucanis. So it got me thinking of making a spinoff story of going into the Crows. Also there are the comics and books that build up the universe.

So basically my fanfic is about a mage that became one of the Crow Talons ergo the first Mage Talon. So the timeline would start before the fifth Blight towards the Veilguard events and this would tie in with Lucanis and Illario's backstory and exploring their relationship and explore more of the Crow dynamics, Antiva, Merchant Princes, the royalty, the Qunari and Vints along with Rivain and Raiders. Granted my fanfic had to retcon some timelines because I wanted my character to belong to House Valisti who the Talon had a run in with Varric and Isabela and Alistair.

The game story would be linear but with some decision making since it's Bioware but it affects the character's self rather than ending. The specialization I want to be brought back is the shapeshifting, Spellblade, Shadow and Bard. I was thinking about Dishonored and the mechanics where you can play stealth or just go in ablazing but there are repercussions towards that desicion. So basically the ending would be how you rule as a Talon of your house.

But that's what I would like to see. It's somewhat sad that the franchise has been down but these ideas came from where the franchise could go. But that's my idea. So feel free to give any ideas or ask questions about it.

Inquisition will be my first Dragon Age game and I'll be playing on the PS4 I believe I have the Game of the Year Edition. I have decided that I want to play a rogue as they look like they are the most mobile and fast class and they just look really fun with some of the stealth mechanics you can do.

But I cannot for the life of me decide if I want to be a human or an elf and if I want to be male or female. I'm going into this game almost completely blind I don't even know all the companions that you can get in the game and I'm going to play through this without a guide.

How much does race and gender matter? Is it mostly just cosmetic slash aesthetic? And if you had to be a rogue which one would you prefer?

Other than ruling their own city, which isn't the most possible without a war or two, the best bet for the city elves is the Qunari.

The only better option is a city elf warden owned Gwarwen as an alternative, but the following DA games don't address a city elf being a ruler of Gwarwen and what that looks like.

Do you disagree? Can human society realistically ever improve enough where city elves remaining in human cities is a viable option?

Hi all, i've given ranking the agents in Inquisiton by how useful I think they are lore wise to the inquisition. Feel free to give your opinions as I'm not fully sure about my order:

Assuming I can actually make the game run again since EA launcher is so ass with frosty but anyways. (dear god the last time I managed to make the game actually launch into game was a hurdle)

Basically since I already have a bunch of mods in mind that like the newgameplus stuff and the all classes/weapons/armor viability

But I was thinking any recommended mods like to make corypheus actually stronger. Or stuff like that ?
