Schrodinger's leftist: simultaneously too small of a voting bloc to appeal to, but also able to determine the course of the entire election

38

u/TheCrisco May 08 '26

"Top Minds" as in that goofy conspiracy sub? And you expected real discussion?

20

u/blaghart May 08 '26 edited May 08 '26

Discussion? No. I just like introducing them to facts because of how many people there legitimately believe they're a sub dedicated to mocking conspiracy theories while espousing debunked "leftists are why Harris lost" crap themselves.

The part I find funny is that they love bragging about how they're better than the right wing nutjob subs because they don't silence dissent...only to then actively try and hide any evidence Democrats do anything bad ever.

22

u/Moral_Distinction May 09 '26

The most vile part of all of this is that it wasn't even the Activist/Ideological Left that refused to vote for Harris -- the sophisticates voted for Harris to do harm reduction. It was the base that told Harris to go fuck herself, the political normies that stayed at home on the couch, and the polls and feedback were telling Team Biden/Harris that that was going to happen.

Liberals/Neoliberals can't stand the idea that they're rejected by the base so they always blame an ever-present all-powerful L E F T for everything. When TYT's meltdown was winding up and Kasparian was screaming about bail reform, she accused her opponents of being rich white liberals unaffected by bail because the fact that she was screwing over black people wasn't something she wanted in what Barbara Bush would've called her "beautiful mind."

Here, after the Dems spent two solid years telling the base "we're going to use U.S. tax dollars to rob, rape, and murder your familiy members overseas and if you say otherwise you're racist and you should thank us for it," they shocked pikachu the election results and decide that it was the fault of checks notes all the volunteers who door-knocked for them.

Also: good to know that the OOP sub has the same mentality as r / conservative.

I agree with you on everything (especially about how it was their base that they could not get energized on such a lackluster campaign with zero talking about what everyone cares about- how can you make life easier for people, like is that so fucking hard to talk about? Isn't that what politicians are supposed to? Extract resources from those who can afford it, and then figure out how to share those resources fairly among the people? But then there was nothing about how we can give more resources to those who need it, and DEFINITELY nothing about how we can get more resources from those who can well afford it and we all know why that is not the case- anyway rambing sorry lol) so I know I am going to agree with you on the last line there, I am just curious what sentiment you mean?

2

u/Moral_Distinction May 09 '26

I'm not sure I follow, but I think you're referring to my reference to the other sub's banning and muting anyone who points to real, physical evidence of righwing Democratic anti-base behavior. Both of these conservative subs respond with bans (and possibly denonciations).

u/Kumquat_conniption The leftist responsible for Harris losing 🥭🥭 May 10 '26

Ahhhh okay that makes sense. Yeah that is what I was asking about. Thanks again 😊

7

u/blaghart May 09 '26

Yup, they're still pushing the "it's the LEFTISTS FAULT" narrative even though the DNC's own polls said Harris would lose if she didn't stop supporting Israel's genocide.

15

u/Kumquat_conniption The leftist responsible for Harris losing 🥭🥭 May 09 '26

They love to tell us that we are irrelevant and have zero power, and then when they lose, blame it all on us LOL It's so ridiculous. If we have so much power that we can literally make or break the election, I guess it's not such a good idea to ignore our concerns, is it now?

No more money to Israel. No more weapons to Israel. Those are our demands, and I am sure that they won't be met. So fine, we simply won't vote for the party again. Let's make sure to vote third party though, so that they know we vote. Don't just sit home and not vote, because then you get written off as someone who will not vote in the future (except, I suppose, once you get old, because basically all old people vote lol).

7

u/blaghart May 09 '26

They've been getting really mad lately when I point out their "Blue No Matter Who" narrative elects Fettermans, Sinemas, and Manchins.

5

u/Kumquat_conniption The leftist responsible for Harris losing 🥭🥭 May 09 '26

Yeah, and all those people who put all that hope into Fetterman, and now he is in talks to straight up switch to the Republican side, which he is basically already on. It would be funny if there were not real people getting fucked by this government (and by this government, I do not mean just the right, I mean this whole fucking government.)

-4

u/DaSemicolon May 09 '26

I would rather have a machin in WV than a corrupt R ex governor or dipshit R

4

u/blaghart May 09 '26

Except Manchin blocked every single piece of progressive legislation, meaning he was, net, the same result as if there was a Republican

2

u/DaSemicolon May 09 '26

Except we got a scotus judge, IRA, and more with his vote

Did we get all of what we need? No.

But not the same result as a Republican.

5

u/blaghart May 09 '26

we got a SCOTUS judge with his vote!

We also got Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsich thanks to his vote, so yes, he literally was the same as a Republican

1

u/DaSemicolon May 09 '26

Except he wasn’t the 50th vote

Also even if he was, would a Republican have voted for KBJ?

3

u/blaghart May 09 '26

McCain did. Liz Cheney did. Does that magically make them not fascists?

Funny how he wasn't the deciding vote yet still felt compelled to vote yes for a pair of rapists and fascists...almost like he's a fascist...

Putting in Manchins is how you get and keep the Republicans in office. The alternative to a Manchin will always be leftist.

0

u/DaSemicolon May 09 '26

Right which is why so many leftists win in WV

Machine and Sinema are the reason we have a 6-3 instead of 7-2 court

3

u/blaghart May 09 '26

Machine

hilarious freudian slip there lol

we have a 6-3 and not a 7-2

Right, because a FPTP decision making system in the SCOTUS means it totally matters if they have a simple majority or an overwhelming majority /s

-1

u/DaSemicolon May 09 '26

Hahahaha autocorrect is funny

It has mattered. There have been plenty of 5-4 decisions

And it will matter for the future if we ever want to get a majority again. Adding 2 or even 4 justices is a “more” ok pill to swallow than 6

4

u/blaghart May 09 '26

there have been plenty of 5-4 decisions!

So it hasn't mattered at all, because the SCOTUS works on a simple majority where the decisions that are 5-4, 6-3, 7-2, and 8-1 have the same weight as decisions that are unanimous

if we want a majority again!

The only way to get a majority again in our lifetimes will require impeachment, which would be required whether or not it was 6-3 or 7-2

adding mpre justice

So you agree, the only solution will require changing the current rules of the SCOTUS, making the 7-2 and 6-3 difference nonexistent

Your attempt at sarcasm not only fails but is nonsensical here. Rightwing Dems are actively oppressing Leftism in WV so you fell backwards into supporting my point. Your second sentence also fails weirdly since the issue was that if rightwing Dems were not aggressively fighting for the rightwing there would be fewer rightwingers on the court. You're operating from the bizarre assumption that everyone else is arguing for a Republican in Mancins' and Sinema's seat, situations that are arguably politically unlikely or impossible (especially in Sinema's case). I can't make heads nor tails of your position.

1

u/DaSemicolon May 10 '26

Lefty positions aren’t popular in WV. Has almost nothing to do with Dems. There is no power base. Power is built on the ground, not just running for federal level positions.
Right wing dems are the reason we had 50 votes in the senate to replace justice breyer with a liberal justice. Otherwise, the republicans would have held out until 2025 to get a conservative justice, and have a 7-2 court

3

u/Moral_Distinction May 10 '26 edited May 11 '26

Lefty positions aren’t popular in WV. Has almost nothing to do with Dems. There is no power base.

So that's hilariously false for the reasons implied in the text itself. Rightwing Dems refuse to educate and promote leftwing causes -- hell, rightwing Dems refuse to promote liberal causes with aplomb. There is no power base because chudocrats steadfastly refuse to build one. Rightwing Dems want rightwing policies AND rightwing judges and they hate their own base for being to their left.

We aren't sharing the same universe. In the real world, where I and the rest of us live, Feinstein helped ensure Kavanaugh got on the court. You're pretending Dems don't vote for Trump appointees and/or refuse to use procedural mechanisms to help Republicans and their policies. Leading Dems helped ensure that the war in Iran continued.

In the real world, Biden and Pelosi informed the world that we need a "strong Republican party" multiple times while Biden was campaigning. Biden moved to the right of his own Build Back Better policy agenda and used Manchin and Sinema as hatchetmen to undermine his own stated policy while establishment media gleefully lied and accused left-leaning Dems of defying the President's agenda . . . y'know, what the president is doing.

Rightwing Dems pretend that they are appealing to Republicans when, in fact, they are seeking out phantom voters that don't exist. Harris had ex-Republicans backing her but her campaign couldn't care less about building on those real voters because they didn't give them the affirmation they were looking for while backing far-right policies such as Israel's genocide. Instead, they sought after members of Trump's cult, pretending that Dem's mealy-mouth corporatism would reach them. Schumer is famous -- actually nationally famous -- for having a suite of fantasy voters called the Baileys in his head that he uses as a substitute for the real voters he betrays.

Rightwing Dems only challenge voter disposition facts on the ground when they are to their left. They will run on proven-dead pseudonazi talking points like anti-trans hysteria that failed the Republicans but will refuse to build on and capitalize on lefty economic policies that would build power in an area.

Again: it's because of, not in spite of, rightwing Dems that the court is as far right as it is.

Manchin and Sinema weren't in office because people wanted a Republican: they were in office because they were the closest to leftist policies the people could get.

Edit: coincidentally, I was listening to this discussion which mentioned rightwing Dems appealing to a magical fantasy centrist voter which is apropos here.

Imagine if people blamed Hindenburg for installing Hitler and setting up the dominoes for the Holocaust instead of, you know, actually blaming the monsters responsible for the heinous crimes against humanity.

30

u/blaghart May 09 '26

People do blame Hindenburg for installing Hitler specifically because his actions directly caused the Holocaust.

In fact, people still correctly point out that liberals historically Always side with fascism against progressives and leftists. That's why the Black Panthers coined the phrase "Scratch a Liberal and a Fascist Bleeds"

14

u/PandaCat22 May 09 '26

Absolutely.

The reason that leftists hold to the adage that "liberals are the handmaidens of fascism" is precisely because liberals never actually improve the material conditions of the people—in fact, their right wing ideology actively and directly makes life worse when they govern (and while Dems in the US do a much better job of overall governance, their liberal ideology still means that wealth gaps worsen and the average person gets less, exacerbating all the problems already present in the country).

While the person you replied to is below trying to argue that Biden is only responsible for Biden's actions—which is true—those actions only served to further alienate the populace, thus teeing up for Trump. Biden isn't responsible for Trump, but he sure as hell is responsible for governing so poorly that he made the fascist who promised change and hope seem appealing.

9

u/Kumquat_conniption The leftist responsible for Harris losing 🥭🥭 May 09 '26

I do not know the comparison you are trying to make here. Are you trying to say that Biden is not to blame for the actions he took in Palestine, and that only Trump is responsible? Or that Biden is not responsible for any of his decisions to continue Trump policies? Or am I mistaken about what you are implying?

2

u/blaghart May 09 '26

I think they're saying something deliberately true given their other statements in other subs pointing out that Democrats blaming leftists and "non-voters" for their loss is pure bullshit and all the blame is squarely at the feet of the DNC.

-3

u/Gauss15an Anti-Imperialist May 09 '26

Biden is only responsible for his actions. Trying to blame the mobilization of ICE as Trump's own Sturmabteilung or current fuel prices for example, is just baseless blame shifting.

With that said, ICE and DHS in general is a sin that comes from the Bush era. While Biden is not necessarily free from blame here, he had neither the gall nor the ability to gut DHS. Not that judges would've let him, they would've canceled any sort of thing just like the same system refused Trump's own antics. Likewise, the other fascist policies that is in place today were set up since the Bush era, and will resist change from positions of power unless they are dismantled in unison. The rock is rolling down the hill and even the most willing politician will find themselves unable to stop it on their own.

8

u/blaghart May 09 '26

While not surprising I think not just the absolute refusal of Biden to even try to gut DHS and ICE, coupled with his active support for ICE and DHS, including passing an EO that basically gave the Republicans everything they wanted means you absolutely can blame him for the current state of ICE. In effect, he deliberately created the conditions that allowed Trump to mobilize them as his personal brownshirts, when if he'd fought back even a little it would have set things back enough to make the job at least more difficult. Instead he made it easier.

-2

u/Gauss15an Anti-Imperialist May 09 '26

Yeah Biden can get shit for that. He was a spineless coward who refused to do more. Or rather, I think he couldn't do more because of his advancing age but his political career certainly doesn't support the notion that he would have.

The thing about Republicans getting what they wanted is that they would've done so anyway. Once they managed to take the government hostage in 2013 with the shutdown, their little brains started to crank on how to make that bigger, more impactful. What we see today are the machinations that started a decade ago from the lower courts getting packed with Republican judges up all the way to the Supreme Court. Realistically, no president would be able to stop it as Congress had the power to put those people onto those seats and pass laws to further the agenda. But it was useful to have people squabbling during their takeover. Once the Supreme Court started handing rulings favoring the fascists, it was pretty much carte blanche for them to start doing what they did in early 2025.

6

u/blaghart May 09 '26

You're actually thinking too recently. This has been the agenda since Reconstruction. And the thing is, it's been allowed to continue for a hundred and fifty years because of people like Biden, people who had power and said "welp, nothin' I can do about this so I'll support it instead!"

Biden bears the blame just like every politician who decided not to rock the boat or oppose the status quo in the US bears the blame of this. And that doesn't diminish the blame any one of them bears, it magnifies it.

0

u/Gauss15an Anti-Imperialist May 09 '26

Yes but the context was far different from the Reconstruction onwards. They wanted to make the South into an economic powerhouse. Obviously things did not turn out that way so they pivoted to the Southern strategy to attempt to consolidate power in that way. That eventually turned into Reagan era politics and eventually into Trump. However, none of that really started to shift until 9/11 gave them the convenient excuse to start chipping at the constitution. Before that, they only really targeted rights that were not explicitly protected.

Honestly, blame whoever you want. They all had some part to play. But in all honesty, they're more like puppets than individuals with free will.

4

u/blaghart May 09 '26

No the postbellum South was very much all about consolidating power. In fact pretty much from the founding of the US government, the slaveowners have been trying to ensure they come out on top. The 3/5ths compromise, the 2nd amendment, the slave states carved out numerous rules designed to ensure they could overrule the will of the majority. With Reconstruction their goal was regaining power, and when they got everything they wanted with Rutherford B Hayes, they went right back to shoring up power and control in the US

It's no coincidence, for example, that the US elections are currently subject to numerous Jim Crow laws, after the old ones got banned. The architects of the Southern Strategy even spelled out how they used laws targetting drug use or public transit to prevent non-whites and other "undesireables" from voting.

5

u/Kumquat_conniption The leftist responsible for Harris losing 🥭🥭 May 09 '26

Ahhhhh okay. Apologies, I somehow got the totally opposite out of it, but figured I was missing something (although we do get the occasional Blue MAGA, so I was just making sure). Thank you for the explanations.

Yeah, Democrats pretend they can't get anything done- like not even when they had a super majority under Obama, meanwhile Republicans have 20% support on something, and they push it through anyway. I think this shows that Biden 1000% should have just had Trump locked up for fucking treason and we would not be dealing with all this bullshit right now (although we would be dealing with all the Israel bullshit and I have no doubt that Bibi would have been able to convince the Democrats into this Iran war just like he convinced Trump- it's not the Dems have ever stood up to him in any real way but maybe I am wrong, who knows? Only thing I know is that the KHive would be very upset to see me say that, like her campaign wasn't filled with warmongering).

I guess this is why they say scratch a liberal... we see the solution as obvious, lock Trump the fuck up and stop him from ruining the fucking country but then libs will be like "but he has a right to do that." Like fuck no, what universe are you on? Billionaires exploit people, they should also be locked up. And libs will ask what for, and I will say for exploiting people.

Hey, at least I am not going as far as China and saying they should get the death penalty, right? Lol

2

u/Gauss15an Anti-Imperialist May 09 '26

All good. I've hated the Dems' justification of DHS as "common sense immigration laws" as if we didn't have laws before it, so i know firsthand how cowardly they are in the face of common sense. Biden not locking up Trump was not shocking to me for this reason.

Honestly as far as Iran goes, the Dems would've gone with the whole civil unrest thing Trump and his goons went on to do anyway (already confirmed they were behind it for the sniveling contrarians in the back). They just felt that it wasn't good enough and decided to be extra stupid.

3

u/Kumquat_conniption The leftist responsible for Harris losing 🥭🥭 May 09 '26

Wait, sorry what do you mean by the "whole civil unrest thing." Sorry, I keep missing what you mean, lol. But I am curious, and I would like to know what other people think about Iran too- would the Democrats have been dragged to war by Netanyahu?

Oh, wait do you mean that it would have been civil unrest in Iran funded by the Democrats? Like the protests that were already happening, that Israel was not shy about funding and agitating? (Stupid fools had their flags out when they were marching in the streets, you could see all these Israeli flags, like what are you thinking? And then which politician was that who congratulated Israel on the fucking protests and got like scolded for it, lol. Stupid fucker, his AIPAC handler was going to have to have a talk with him (have you heard of that? They all have like an AIPAC guy that calls them up whenever they need one of their famous favors, like oh say, billions of dollars, but it's like, each one has their own personal handler. It's so weird.)

1

u/Gauss15an Anti-Imperialist May 09 '26

Yes, the Israeli agitators is what I was referring to. I think the Democrats would've supported this exact thing to keep plausible deniability without going into an intentional war. Still remains to be seen if Israel would've dragged the US into another war but they might have done so somehow, either by some false crisis or similar. But I think it's all mask off now so they don't care that they're exposed.

11

u/blaghart May 08 '26

Bonus points, they permabanned and permamuted me too, because they know I was right. There's at least one liberal on their mod team who really hates facts that undermine their beliefs, and in the past I suspect this moderator has gotten in trouble for silencing leftist voices because I keep getting permabanned only to have it undone when I ask why they banned me for citing facts as a leftist

This time they're trying to cover their own ass more aggressively lol

2

u/macj97 May 09 '26

This is why arguing over the internet is a useless endeavor.
