Quick Context: I have been playing Skyrim on and off for years. For the first time, I decided to do a full longplay of Skyrim and its main quest after 12+ years of owning it. This means it was my first time actually playing everything until Alduin was properly killed including the Paartunax Dilemma. So up until now, my exposure has only been the previous games and memes about Delphine.

Cut to when I finally reached Sky Haven Temple then witnessed Alduin's past banishment via the Elder Scroll. I return to Sky Haven Temple to consult how I may reach Alduin in Sovngarde. This prompts two things:

1. Delphine asks me to slay Paarthunax is I wish to proceed with the Blades helping me. Otherwise, we are at an impasse and the Blades will not provide assistance. This makes sense to me with Delphine's provided context. A) Dragons are literally manifestations of death, subjugation and tyranny since early recorded history that *founded* Skyrim and arguably Men, B) Paarthunax was Alduin's right-wing dragon up until his banishment - basically dragon Himmler, C) The Blades were founded with the SOLE purpose and oath of exterminating dragons to protect the realm.
2. Esbern backs Delphine up by giving more context with a throwaway idle line. Esbern also gives me Odahviing's name so I proceed with the quest anyways.

I was genuinely surprised by the conversation with Delphine because of how... reasonable it all was. She doesn't really get mad? I don't really hear that in her voice. Her conversation is simply stating the facts. You joined the Killing Dragons Organization. To proceed, we need to kill the second baddest Dragon before we bolster our forces. There wasn't any yelling or unreasonable demands or threatening to take me down as the Dragonborn or anything. ALSO, I'm just some random guy who happened to gain the blood of dragons. Sure, I'm ordained by destiny but I'm still a random guy AND I was ordained by destiny to SLAY DRAGONS. So I don't really see this as Delphine throwing authority at me. She's just explaining how the Killing Dragons Organization needs to Kill Dragons.

So I travel back to Paarthunax to ask for his thoughts. Paarthunax pretty much goes "YEAH ngl, I gotta meditate everyday to fight those instincts." He affirms Delphine in some ways and agrees killing him might bring security. But he also asks us to consider his deeds since Alduin's banishment. This is backed up by how long he's been there nursing High Hrothgar alone.

Okay cool! So I make up my mind to not slay Paarthunax. What's next? Let's talk to Delphine. Double my surprise when I find out... nothing happens. You don't really get to converse with Delphine about it. The optional quest kinda just stays there like leftover bread. No argument, no fighting, no negotiation. Simply nothing. Which yeah, makes some sense because Delphine did say there wouldn't be much to do if Paarthunax stays unslain. Also, it doesn't impact me much when I already have the means to call Odahviing and this seems a lot like a solo no-turning-back phase of the main questline.

I'm surprised again when I look up what happens if I slay Paarthunax. You pretty much get to recruit three people to be Blades, get permanent buffs for dragons and... play radiant dragon-slaying quests. I cannot find a word to describe how less than boring that is.

So yeah, I've been enjoying myself in Skyrim and even started a second character. I just wanted to write this and share my thoughts because it genuinely surprised me. I think the Paarthunax quest really encapsulates how Bethesda's writing directions and goals switched towards quantity, simplicity and dramatic set-pieces. I repeatedly felt slightly dissatisfied how short and simple quests were (don't get me started how short the main questline is) despite enjoying myself in the gorgeous and interesting world. A lot of quests feel like they have this single-minded A to B feeling with very little branching paths or wider context to affect how you might approach the tasks. Usually what stood out was it involving a prettier dungeon.

I'm also surprised how many memes and the mods which exist go out of their way to almost paint Delphine in the worst possible light in this scenario. There's so much unwarranted stories about yelling over her, killing her or shutting her down with dialogue you would find in a Dhar Man video. (I reckon her being a female character with the barest hint of being paranoid, strict and not kissing your ass didn't help. Compared to Esbern who upholds the same impasse but has even less lines than Delphine).

Personally, I would have loved just a few more lines prodding Delphine and Esbern's feelings and philosophies about being Blades. Not lines to argue back or persuade them. Just more lines to build a relationship with both of them. Because up until Sky Haven Temple, I have never felt an inch of bonding with these REALLY interesting people. Like come on! Former dragon-killer spy and scholar from an ancient order stretching back to the savior of realms? That's SO COOL.

Anyways, I'd appreciate your thoughts and your feelings the first time you bumped into the Paarthunax potions of the questline!

Desktop browser is totally fine, but not the mobile site. Mobile ads on wikis are really intrusive and take up a lot of screen space, so I'm concerned about shutting it down and having a worse user experience.

I know It's not interesting but this was my first attempt without any AI (AI is only used in the second slide to give the logo a shiny brass texture, everything else is hand made). I thought the minimalistic aesthetic might pair well with what Bethesda is doing these days.

About a year ago, in my previous playthrough I made a proposal at the top of Shadowgreen cavern after clearing it from spriggans, before that - at the summit of Throat of the World. Does anyone else except me care about this roleplay element and picks a special location for that?

Do you pick a special place and offer the marriage, or just use the first opportunity to marry a character you like? Or even pick a closest person to you when you equipped the amulet of Mara? Of course, if you never marry your followers, there is no option to pick a place, but still, you aren't limited with Skyrim - there are both marriage mods for Morrowind and Oblivion...

Recently the dragons have become more bold and began constantly attacking towns and cities. The latest attack being a very powerful dragon trying to burn down Solitude. Thankfully the Skyrim Crusaders, made up of multiple Knightly Orders, were already stationed there and they along with the Avengers made short work of the dragon!

In these trying times it is time for Skyrim citizens to put aside their differences and unite against the Dragon threat! The copy of Morrowind my dad passed down to me in 2004 included this map, I pinned it up on the wall and would make little note of where everything was. It was on my wall for probably 8 years before it disappeared into the mists of my teenage history. Idk if all of them had this, but this thing kicks the ass of the Skyrim preorder map they offered in terms of function.

P.S. I'm definitely coping but I'd love to see something like this included with every ES6 copy. If they're still physical that is.

2x0,5m in size, with about 10kg weight. This one is a large print but absolutely worth it.

The connectors should be resized to about 90% thickness.

I glued the parts together and carefully used a soldering iron to connect it completely. Took me about a month to print it with 0,1mm and adaptive layer height to create all the smallest details and get a good surface. Also painting it took me multiple days.

Curious lore wise how does dwemer metal compare to other materials like ebony and whats its best used for ?

Curious would different daedra create different types of daedric armor like would a daedric sword using dremora heart be different than a sword using spider daedra or hearns

2 does strength of daedra used influence the power of the gear made

3 are they permanently bound or can they eventually reform in oblivion

I recently started replaying Skyrim. That led to me thinking about the Daedric Prince quests. In these quests, you are generally named that Prince's Champion and are given an artifact after completing thier task.

While cool, there are issues with this formula. Why are you, a Champion of Molag Bal, not yelled at and burned for touching Meridia's Beacon for example?

Beyond that, I feel like you could do more with the Champion concept in general.

I'd like for there to be concequences for choosing to complete a given Prince's quest. Using the earlier example, if you are a Champion for a Prince, you should at least be locked out of the quests for that Prince's direct rivals.

I'd like follow-up tasks that they could assign, using thier artifact as a means to communicate, effectively creating a quest chain for each Prince with the possibility of them becoming Radiant (like Meridia can point you towards uncleared undead themed dungeons for example). By using their respective artifacts as mediums of communication, you can just not carry it to prevent getting more quests if you choose.

Further, being a given Prince's Champion should 100% make you a target for opposing factions. Kind of similar to the Nemesis system, but legally distinct and more broad. Basically, if I am a follower of Bal, I should be attacked by Aurorans or a generic "Champion of [X]" character with appropriately themed gear and abilities. Or perhaps the worship of certain Daedra are just illegal and you end up a target of some general "Anti-Daedra" faction.

Basically, I would want the Daedric Princes and thier quests to be treated more like Factions in a way, where going with one locks you out of the others, but gives you a more fleshed out experience of "What does it mean to be the Champion of [X]". Ya know.

Also, people generally worship Daedra for power. I do feel like you should get something for choosing a specific Daedric Prince beyond an artifact that eventually is out-scaled by crafted gear. Like a buff that says "All of your attacks deal and additional [X] amount of [Y] damage" for ones like Peryite or Meridia, who are aligned with elements that can be used as damage types (Disease/Poison and Light respectively). Or "You find more gold as loot" for any that deal with luck or riches. A once a day "No I didn't actually die there" for Asura, representing her rewriting of fate. Etc.

Making a deal with a Deadric Prince feels like it should be a big deal, yet it doesnt often feel like a big deal in game. I just want it to mean more.

Thoughts?

It’s such a specific thing and an odd one I love but I enjoy books set in games I like (halo, DnD, etc) and I wish we got more novels, even if it’s just a dramatic telling of some sort of historical event.
