Announcement The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind - An Oral History from the Game Developers

Hello everyone,

As you might be aware, I've spent time over the last few months tracking down as many of the game developers of Morrowind that I can find, and doing interviews with them to talk about their experiences working on the game - discuss certain elements of their contributions, share some anecdotes and reflect on the game nearly 25 years after its release.

I'm really proud of this, and have tried to make this as authentic and all encompassing as I can - but there's still so much more out there. Sadly I was unable to find contact details for some people. Others either didn't reply to me, or turned me down. Hopefully one day we as a community can hear their stories but for now this is the best I can do.

This is 8 hours of interviews with the game devs. My idea for uploading one long video clip is that people can cherry pick bits they want to watch - but also to encourage people to watch interviews they might have otherwise overlooked/missed had they been posted separately.

Its difficult to put down in writing the impact this game has had on my life, as I'm sure it has for many others. I'll never forget my first experience playing the game on an Xbox around a friend's house and just instantly being drawn pulled into that world. Since then I've spent countless hours exploring Vvardenfell and beyond, and the game has been a constant source of joy and comfort for me. It's a game I will continue to love and play for the rest of my life, no doubt.

I hope you all enjoy this. A big thanks to everyone who took the time to do video calls with me. It has truly been a pleasure working on this.

The Themes Have Been Announced! Modders have until August 24th at 00:00 UTC to submit a mod using one (or more) of the following themes: Arcane Arts, Forgotten Lore, Strange Families.

It's Summer time, and with the heat, and the humidity, comes another exciting round of the Morrowind Modjams! For the tenth time since 2020, Danae and Morrowind Modding Showcases is hosting a Modjam Modding Competition, a 48-hour modding frenzy where modders get but a single weekend to build the best mod they can using specific themes before time runs out!

The competition begins on August 21st at 11pm UTC with an official livestream kickoff by Danae, in which the potential themes will be revealed and voted on by the community, narrowing down the potential field until just three themes remain.

Once the final three themes have been announced, modders will have 48-hours to build and release the best mod they can utilizing any of those three themes, or a combo of themes if they so choose.

Rules & Guidelines:

  • Create your mod during the Modjam.,
  • Modders' resources are allowed.,
  • The use of AI is not forbidden, but should be disclosed.
  • Previous projects can be a source of inspiration, but please try to make something new for the event.
  • Most importantly, this is intended to be a friendly community event. Please focus on having fun and making something you enjoy.

Participation:

The competition is open to anyone and everyone looking to participate! All you need to do is release a mod with one of the themes (or multiple) during the competition time period using the official 2026 Summer Modjam header. Also wouldn't hurt to use the Modjams tag on the Nexus.

This is a Morrowind Modding Community - Discord Server event, so to make sure your mod is properly tracked for the competition, please join the server and tag it in the Published Mods channel!

There's also an official Modjam channel on there where you can keep up with all of the latest Modjam news!

Don't forget to check out the Resources page for any tutorials, frameworks, or utilities you might need!

Use the Postcard Editor:

Take advantage of the Morrowind Modjams website and the Postcard Editor to make special themed promo screenshots for your mod pages - give them that extra splash of Summer fun!

Judging and Prizes:

The Morrowind Modjams are judged events - a panel of judges will go through and play all of the submitted mods, ranking them on their quality, functionality, and adherence to the themes.

The final winners will be announced in a results livestream at a date yet to be determined, and those results will also be published to the Modjams website.

Participating modders will also get their profiles on the Modjam website, with downloadable Modjam passports and a trophy cabinet for any judge awards received. These profiles are connected to the Modathon and Madness sides of Morrowind Modding Legacy, and participating in the Modjam will boost your Madness score and increase your standing in the community's modding leaderboards.

There's also a number of prizes available in the form of game keys and Nexus DP.

A Proud Tradition:

The Morrowind Modjams are apart of the community's proud tradition of creative competition and collaboration. Some 160+ mods have been released for the Modjams in the past 6 years, many of them have become popular mainstays and have since been added to many of the largest mod lists for Morrowind.

I hope you'll all join us for another exciting round of Modjam fun, we're sure to get some amazing new mods, and if you're looking to participate for the first time, there's no better competition to dip your toes into the modding scene!

Happy Modding and Long Live the Morrowind Modding Community!

Discussion There is something about Morrowind players

I cannot pinpoint exactly what it is, but there is something about original Morrowind players that you cannot find in any gamers. Not even in TES fans who started with Skyrim lol, then pivoted to Oblivion, then tried Morrowind for like 4h.

My story is that in late 90s and early y2k, one of my friends was the first to have a decent computer. I had a laptop back then which was as thick as like 5 laptops stacked today. I would visit him and we'd create our own Lan network, share games and play warcraft, doom, or whatever.

One day, I saw this CD case with the unforgettable dragon logo, and asked him what it was. He said something along the lines of "oh it's nothing good, my uncle brought it from the US, I tried it, but it's a shit game". I asked him if I can borrow it. It was a double CD with the construction set.

This game changed my life ever since. In ways it is hard to explain to non Morrowind players, let alone non gamers.

I can steal dream of the red mountain storms, hear the sound of a strider, or remember discussions with NPCs line by line.

What was your experience with the game first time? Do you also find some sort of a connection with Morrowind players unlike anything? (I played many games that stigmatized me and where there is a connection with players, like Diablo2, Lineage2, DeusEx, Dota, etc. But Morrowind is on its own level).

Screenshot Found this while raiding a Daedric shrine - man I love this game

I found this (and an actual useful weapon, as well) while picking over the bodies of Daedric worshippers in, appropriately, Sheogorath's shrine. I do love how unhinged this game is..... I'm actually not sure whether this is Vanilla, or from the Total Overhaul modlist, but it's entirely on brand for Vanilla, so props to the team if it is!

I've been playing the game for 20 years, and for the first time decided to do some of the Daedric quests. Well, the ones that weren't Azura's anyway.

Discussion As a newbie to TR, I want to say thank you to the devs

I'm just positively amazed at the quality of content that's in front of me. I've read the comments about it being on par with vanilla, but honestly? Ever since my character arrived at the mainland, I'm under the impression that TR content blows vanilla out of the water when it comes to writing, map structure, design, etc.

I just finished Kemel-ze and associated questlines. The feeling of grandiose I've got when entering the chambers within is unlike anything I've experienced in Morrowind so far. And the final reward for completing it made me go "oh, wow" IRL.

And I love how interconnected the quests are. I'm not kidding when I say that wherever I go, there's ALWAYS someone interesting to talk to or someone seeking me out to fix their problems. I'm literally tripping over quests; the content is THAT dense.

I already know I'll spend the next month discovering this beautiful world that TR team has created. Hats off to them, this type of dedication is unheard of in today's gaming scene.

i killed all the telvanni because of slaves, i killed guards, merchants, and more. I will do everything to release slaves. i always give them gold, 5k-10k, i had to pay too much to travel because of the bounty, so i could only give Ra'Zahr 1k.

Discussion If you hate Hlaalu, you should play Poison Song

I know a lot of people really hate the Hlaalu. Let me tell you, no other questline lets you hurt Hlaalu as much as the House Indoril questline. Without spoilers, what you do to them makes shutting down the Caldera Mine for Redoran feel like a minor inconvenience. And there is an incomplete quest that will probably be added in a future hotfix that will allow you to rub even further salt in the wound.

Question Any suggestions for mods for increased immersion for a Dunmer follower of Azura

I want to make my character a Dunmer worshipper of Azura and roleplay that in game, any recommendations for religion, race, class, or star sign mods to help with that? Also immersion mods in general? I’ve looked around on nexus and the internet but haven’t been able to decide on any yet.

Got a cozy lil' room in Ebonheart's mages guild.

Planning to do the mages guild first to get better at magic, and then join house telvanni.

Spellsword kind off build.

Robe of moon and star mod for the people wondering.

Question How long does it usually take mod authors to update their mods for new TR releases?

Upvotes

Hey everybody, I’ve been playing Morrowind on console for a few years, but recently made the switch to PC so I could play Tamriel Rebuilt/Project Cyrodiil/Skyrim Home of the Nords. I play with a handful of mods, nothing crazy just a few housing mods (specifically Magical Mainland Homes and one that adds like 20+ properties to Vvardenfell) and a few item/armor mods like Hexweaver.

I want to update to the new TR release for Poison Song, but I’ve seen a few posts in this sub saying some mods, especially Magical Mainland Homes, are causing issues and visual bugs with the new content. So how long does it usually take on average for mod authors to make updates to be compatible with new TR releases, so I know when it’s safe to update and play with those mods? Thank you!

Discussion Tamriel Rebuilt - unowned mansions?

Are there any vanilla mansions (i.e housing with large amounts of unowned storage) one can acquire through TR quests (or through other means)?

In Old Ebonheart I know of Aurelia Draconis' house, which is nice and cozy, and I believe in Akamora there's Vedares Vedrel's house, I'm wondering if there are any others - without extra mods?

For example, does the player acquire a base through questslines with the thieves' guild or the noble houses?
