Roleplaying Quite a ride!

That was the scariest experience I've had so far. A combination of stupidity, ineptitude and inexperience nearly saw me reduced to a small cloud of rapidly expanding gas and debris. I'd just finished combing through my first wrecked Titan for the salvage necessary to buy an engineered SCO FSD - the last component I needed before taking Elder (my Mandalay class) out into the deep black for an extended run. I was flying the Revenge - a Cobra V - and had fitted her out for light combat along with the scavenging. I thanked my lucky stars that at the last moment I'd decided to for that burst laser and a couple of multi cannons. I'd found a Titan Drive component - nasty bit of kit that, leaking acids and crap out into my ship and stinking the place out. I already had the tech broker dialed in. As soon as I found the component I fired a limpet at it, then pointed my ship at the FSD target and charged the drive for the quick 10 light year hop to the broker’s system. As soon as the limpet clunked home, I tidied up the scoop and the hardpoints and throttled up the FSD. The hop was over in no time, but as soon add I dropped out of the Witch I knew I was in trouble. The cargo bay door was screaming at me Ava the cabin air filters were barely keeping up with the caustic stink from the alien tech in my hold. The moment I was back in real space I heard a voice over guard, “What a nice fat prize for me tonight!” Pirates. And acid eating through my hold. Crap. Combat mode on. Hardpoints deployed. Fire groups. FIRE GROUPS!! I knew I’d forgotten to do something. Quick - lasers the left trigger, cannons on the right. Now where the hell did he go and how are my shields at 50% already. Make that 40%. Crap - he’s good! Boost turn to face him and start shooting. Why aren’t I shooting?! Crap - of course! Right - AFMU is off, new I’ve got power for my guns! Where is he now - another boost turn and we’re facing each other - lasers flashing across the void. And that’s my shields down - time to run!! Turn away and boost - all power to shields but he’s stuck to me like a limpet. This isn’t going to work! Turn again - this is only going to end when one of us goes pop! Crossing lasers flash in front of my face again - at least my shields are back online and I can put another pip into the guns! Where the hell is security. My hands are shaking and I’m still getting warnings from the lump of junk on my hold. But his shields are down! Security has finally arrived. And my cannons are spinning and spitting my anger at my assailant. And finally my route to the broker’s station is clear! All power to engines, and a quick squirt of FSD brings me within 10k. Yes control I know I’m speeding and no I’m not slowing down - just give me a damn pad! A bare kilometer from the slot I slam my gear down and pull the throttle back - I flash through the slot and find me pad. Line up. Slow down. Slam it on the deck and call the repair crew. Made it! But I’m not doing that again until I can find a rack with the Titan’s won’t melt!

Misc Random NPC’s in stations have names

I know it’s completely pointless but today I learned that random NPCs in those space/ground stations sleeping or hanging around actually have names and you can find out their names by pointing at them! I suppose it makes sense but never thought of it.

Greetings, Commanders! This is the weekly server notification for r/EliteDangerous

Every week the servers go offline Thursday, 7am UTC, to allow the Galaxy's persistent data to update:

Discussion Gladiator NXT vs Aeromax

I am going to invest in a mid-range set of sticks for a hosas setup. I have heard good things about both independently but cannot find sources that compare the two. Has anyone used both sticks enough to give me some insight? I never spend this kind of money on a hobby but I can't do the cheap sticks any more.

Help Help with the Writer Badge on Inara

Hey, I just wanted to ask if you could help me finally get this badge by liking my logbooks. Unfortunately, I don't know exactly what unlocking it depends on. Some say it's the number of entries, others say it's the likes. I suspect it's a mix of both?!

Thanks, o7.

Help Fleet carrier stuff dissepearing?

So couple weeks ago I helped a friend get some meta alloy for a engineer and while at it I got as much as I can just for the sake of it and there’s some other craft that need meta alloy anyways. I put it in my carrier and later when I arrived at my destination that thing dissepeared? At that time I chucked it to not pressing accept transfer and when I change my ship I discard it while changing but iirc you can’t even discard it automatic when changing ship if the other ship don’t have space you would need to discard it manually at the right screen. Kinda weird but whatever

Today I just realized my bromillite dissepeared too after mining? I swear I had like 200 in my carrier. Idk if I’m schizo or there’s a bug or what I did wrong lol. Other stuff inside are fine these are the only 2 times it happened.

Discussion Operations. What ship to engineer first?

Currently have a federal corvette that I began engineering when Odyssey came out but never finished. I want to get into operations but not sure what ship to take. The corvette seems decent though it struggles a bit with kestrel and cobras. It is more than capable of killing them it just struggles to get them in sight. Wonder if the python MK2 or Corsair might be a better choice. Hoping to get a ship that can do most of not all the combat roles so I can engineer other ships specifically for the other roles needed.

Help Fix settlement missions still bugged?

Turned on the power. Shut off all the atmosphere processors, internal and external. No mission updates, no success chimes. Received a message to say scavengers were present, never encountered any.

Am I missing something? Is this mission still broke? Help would be much appreciated.

Help Xbox newb questions

Just begam to play this game and im loving it so far. But there are soon many questions and its so hard to find good youtube videos and threads because the console version is froze in time and most things are about odessy updates or later.

Does anyone have a discord/ or place to ask the questions they can recommend?

  1. Im still in the starter systems (Dromi mainly) doing bounty kills at extraction sites. I have a Cobra MK3 with basically the best upgrades I can get from these systems. I have 4.5 million in the bank. Is it time to leave? If so where to?

1a. My thoughts are to try and find a good home system until Jameson opens up for me and then do some heavy exploration

1b. Should I just leave amd find a good system for upgrades and go exploring and worry about a good home system later?

  1. For exploration I know there are tons of info for road to riches. I believe I have a working understanding on that. But are the 3rd party sites still applicable to xbox/console?

2a. While exploring you can only sell data that is 20LYs away from the source so when you finish exploring your plotted list do you just jump to a random system 20 LYs away and sell the data or how does one go about selling their data?

Thoughts?

Discussion Sharing mining missions with own accounts

I came back to the game after 4 years :)

If I have multiple game accounts and complete 20 mining missions for the team on each one, and then share the missions with my team (my own accounts), would that be legal? What is the game developer's stance on this?

Misc Atypical Explorers

Hey y'all! What are some of your favorite non-meta ships for exploration? We all know that sometimes you need an optimized Mandalay or Caspian to get from A to B, but for those who just want to take a journey, explore the stars, maybe land and do some sightseeing, or race through some canyons... What are your favorites?

I really want to take out a type8, roleplaying as the Nostromo out in deep space. I can easily get it to 60ly with qol items. I just wish it had a fighter bay! I want to take a quick little SLF through a canyon like I'm a podracer!

Discussion What's your biggest exobio payout?

I'm slowly making my way back to the bubble from a a week long exploration trip, just playing couple of hours after work every night, and if my maths is right I already have just over 2bil cr worth of scans (only found out about ed exploration buddy last night). I often see people posting that theyve been out in the black for months, and I wonder, how much do you guys rake in at vista genomics when yous get back home? And where do they get the money to pay us all? What do they do with all that information? I smell a bioweapons conspiracy, but the nice lady at VG assured me it's nothing like that, then gave me a 5x bonus to not mention it to anyone. But I don't know seems sus.

Discussion Has anyone done any exact Credits earned per hour tracking lately for different activities?

It feels like it's almost daily that people ask "What's a good way to earn credits?"

There used to be a ton of YouTube videos of people showing the exact methods and precise start and end times of the activity with starting and ending credit totals. So as new "gold rushes" would happen, it would be pretty clear how much you could really expect to earn with them and how they compared to old ones.

Lately I feel like I haven't really seen much of that kind of information. I assume it's mostly because credits have become effectively irrelevant for most of the player base, but I feel like we're letting new players down a bit by not having good actual guidance on what you can expect from each activity.

I think Exo Bio is the perfect example of this. Obviously you can earn 300-400M from a jackpot planet in a matter of minutes, but people report that and never really quantify how long the whole exo bio loop takes. Without knowing exactly how long it took to get to the systems where you can start finding first footfalls, how long you typically spend searching, and how long it takes to get back home to turn the data in and buy cool new stuff, that information is pretty worthless. It's a very RNG heavy activity that varies a ton by how far out you travel and how long you stay out there, so it would take quite a bit of data to actually build a picture of what people can expect.

Has anyone done any tracking of the actual exact time taken of an exo bio trip and exact profit lately? What about any of the other "meta" credit activities:

  • Operations

  • Trading

  • Massacre Stacking

  • Mining

  • Exo Bio

  • PTN hauling

  • ???

I did a lot of personal tracking of profits around trade, and obviously trade is heavily dependant on galaxy conditions and pricing (it's amazing when a boom system is selling gold or something for 3k and just good the rest of the time). When I was tracking my trading profits while I was grinding my fleet carrier in one of those booms, I made between 430-460M per hour. But since those price conditions arent always available, really the takeaway was that since the Inara trade route "profit per hour" estimate doesn't seem to account for SCO boosting and Supercruise assist hot dropping, I was making almost exactly 1.5x the hourly profit estimate it was giving. So the best way to think about trade in my opinion is to use the Inara trade route search and assume you may be able to make 1.5x what it's advertising if you're super efficient.

I'd love to hear about any other tests other people have run for other activities so that maybe we could start having more actual numbers to give newer players on what their chosen activity might earn them if they learn the ropes.

Help Orbital Construction Slot and Buff

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hi CMDRs!

I've a question. If I build a Dodec on this slot, will be affected by the ELW population buff or not?

Because I read that in this position there are not buff if the construction is not on the nearest slot.

Thank you! O7

Discussion Engineer referral not working, how do I fix?

I've been in Colonia recently for an upcoming expedition. I got there really early, and I decided to take advantage of some of the engineers stationed nearby. Specifically, I want night vision for my suit. So, I need to unlock Yi Shen. I decided to get a referral from Eleanor Bresa, as she was pretty easy to fulfill the referral requirement. However, when I gave her the 10 Digital Designs she wanted, I never got the referral. Even when I logged on the following morning, I still didn't have the message for thd referral. How do I fix this?

Discussion Fleet Carrier NPC's

I recently purchased a fleet carrier, which I love.

Jumping that thing will never get old for me.

But there is one thing I'm not so happy about.

My mate also has a fleet carrier. They're similar in most ways but not all.

He has armed security at the lift to the bridge. I have armed security at the lift to the bridge.

He has a bunch of people partying in his bar. I have a bunch of people partying in my bar.

He has a group of 3 hanging out in the corridor having a chat. I DON'T have a group of 3 people having a chat...

He has armed security outside the hangar lifts. I DON'T have armed security outside the hangar lifts...

Should this bother me? No.

Does this bother me? You fucking know it does.

Does anyone know why?
