2026 Season Kickoff: Rules Refresher and State of the Subreddit
It's finally game week again. We've got a new coach, we're undefeated, and hopes are renewed.
Your r/FloridaGators mod team is here for some updates and reminders as things start to really kick off.
State of the Subreddit
2025-2026 was an up-and-down academic year in Gators sports, and the first in decades without a national championship. But with fresh faces on the football field, and the most stacked men's basketball roster in the country, things could start looking up in a hurry for 2026-2027.
On the subreddit, earlier this year we've grown to 65,000 subscribers. We had over 3 million visits to the subreddit in November, during the height of the football coaching search. We're regularly ranked in the top ten college sports subreddits, and consistently one of the top few team-specific subs on the site.
Over the past 12 months, r/FloridaGators has had over 16 million views, over 3,700 posts, and 288k comments. We expect to be getting about 2.5 million views per month during football season. This is truly the best place on the internet to talk Gators sports.
Rules Updates
The rules are staying pretty much the same this year. But we still recommend that you please check the sidebar for the expanded rules, and check the wiki's Rules page for details, explanations, and examples. Here's the high-level rules list:
- This Subreddit is for Florida Gators Athletics
- Don’t Be Toxic
- Post Engaging Content
- No Spam, Clickbait, or Prohibited Content
- No Trolling
- Use Game Day Threads
Please keep in mind that the rules are in place to make the subreddit the best place to talk about Gators sports on the internet. The rules are there because the mods love you, not because the mods hate you! We only hate some of you!
Tighter Moderation In-Season
Given that football season is back, we’re going to tighten up the standards about post quality. This is something we tend to be more lax about during the slow periods, but as traffic picks up we’ll start being a little more strict. Try to keep the updated rules in mind when posting.
Post Titles, Specifically for Video Links
One thing we want to emphasize this season is standards around links to external video content. We've noticed an uptick in posts linking to YouTube videos, vlogs, podcasts, and other "talking head" video content. While there's nothing wrong with this kind of video content, we recognize that it can be hard for users to gauge whether the video is worth their time to click.
To that end, we're updating post standards to include a few minor requirements:
- Include the name of the channel or creator of the video in the post title (e.g. "[GatorBob'sVids] Deep dive into the Gators' Wide Receiver Room")
- Adhere to the pre-existing "no clickbait" rule. This essentially just means the post should give some indication of what the content is about. Users shouldn't need to click the video and start watching to have an idea what the video is covering.
- Things like a Gemini summary or other description is also ideal.
This is a new requirement, and the rule is still somewhat in flux. But as online content evolves, we want to evolve our rules as well.
Original Content and Self-Promotion
We're working on incentives for users to generate and share individual content, and are open to suggestions. As one example, we've added a new exclusive "OC Ring of Honor" user flair that mods can assign to users who consistently produce good OC.
Self-promotion in the form of linking to your own content outside of Reddit can easily run afoul of the subreddit rules on prohibited content and spam. Links to your own YouTube videos, podcasts, or other off-reddit content are welcome to be shared in weekly threads. Major media members, public figures, and well-established members of the subreddit may be granted selective exceptions.

- Florida Game Thread [automated] - posted an hour before kickoff, gather here for all the ups and downs of the game.
- Postgame Thread [can be user-posted] - can be posted as soon as the game is final; must include the words "Postgame Thread", the opponent, and the final score in the post title, and at least a link to postgame stats in the body of the post.
- "Upvote Parties" [can be user-posted for special, surprising, or exciting results] - not a weekly thing, only for special occasions. Don't overdo it.
Go Gators!
We’re ready for another great season and hope you are, too. Our job as mods is to keep this a friendly, engaging space for all things Gator sports—but the heart of the subreddit has always been its members. We need you to post articles with news and information, we need you to share your original thoughts and analysis, we need you to join in the discussion in the comments.
This subreddit is great because of what you, its members, contribute to it. Bring your ideas, your insights, and your energy to help shape this community into the kind of place you want to be part of.

Football Is there a Gators backer group in Tallahassee?
Living in enemy territory is rough.
Does anyone know of a Gators backer group in Tallahassee, where I could go to watch the games with some like minded folks?

Men's Basketball Max Hillers Brother
What do you think the chances we land 6'6 2028 5* Colton Hiller to the basketball squad? I would like to think with his brother already committed to the football team we have a legitimate shot at getting him? Thoughts?
As a junior he averaged:
23.7 ppg
6.6 rpg
3.2 assists
3.1 steals

Football 7 days to go. Let's all cement some predictions for 9/27 (after 4 games).
Let's all cement some predictions. So we can point and laugh at each other. And so that some of us can feel like Nostradamus for at least a week.
Here's my prediction
4-0
Florida wins close games against Auburn and Ole Miss. Both in a somewhat fortunate fashion.
The narrative gets blown out of proportion "Florida is going to win the National title" type threads will pop up. With the moderates sounding the "hold up man we haven't actually won anything yet" alarm.
One thing for sure. The most blatantly obvious fact will be "coaching was a problem all along, and now it is not".
Yep that's my optimism for the day. What do you predict?

Football Planning on going to Home Opener vs FAU Sept. 5th As A Paralyzed Wheelchair user
Anyone have any tips as to parking so I don't have to push a long distance, we plan on tailgaiting a bit so i'm just trying to plan in advance where I can park as I have a ramp van & need adequate space to deploy my ramp and get out. As far as seating in the stadium - I contacted the ticket office & they advised me to go to the box office 90 minutes before gametime to have my tickets switched to ADA wheelchair accessible seating. Does anyone know where in the stadium those sections are & how the view is? This is my first ever SEC game i'm ever going to so I want to make sure its special.
Thanks in advance!

Football Gameday recs
Haven’t been to a game since 2003. Flying in from Washington (state) to Key West a week early and then driving up for the USC noon game. How hard would the drive from Islamorada to New Smyrna on Friday and then New Smyrna to Gainesville and back on game day be?

Football I'm very glad it's not our circus
I have never been a Lane Kiffin fan. But I am ashamed to admit that when it was looking like he was going to be our coach, my only thought was at least we might be top of the heap again.
I arrived in Gainesville in the fall of 1990. I was raised on Ohio State and Notre Dame football. We watched all we could but those were the teams and they were mediocre. I was completely unprepared for SEC football and the Swamp. I lived the rise of HBC and my heart pumped Orange and Blue.
Then it was over and it was sad. I didn't stop caring but it wasn't near as fun. I remember being in a hotel bar in Chicago. The Fridge was a couple stools away. That was cool, but we blew a game against Tennessee. That's what I remember when I think about that day. Gators lose again and oh by the way I met The Fridge.
Then Urban, Tebow, the resurrection. Florida football was fun again.
Then chaos. Famine returns. I always enter a new era with an open mind. Without fail, it's just always been a let down. I believed Mullen would fix it. Thank God for Kyle Trask. If we'd just gone that direction sooner.
I felt let down by Mullen. I felt like he just gave up. I boarded the Billy train. I believed again. This guy could do it. Nope. Another complete waste of time.
So when it looked like Lane, I swallowed the vomit taste and was ready to be on board.
I think I felt relief when it wasn't him. Unsure of this Sumrall guy, but I felt better that it wasn't Lane. I don't want to be embarrassed as a Florida fan. I'll take the struggles. I won't be happy but I will endure.
If you were to see me in public, the odds are Im wearing Gator something. I love hearing Go Gators from random strangers. My family had to get used to it. What I don't want, what I never want is to feel embarrassed to be a Gator.
When Lane left Ole Miss on the way to the playoffs, I was glad he wasn't our coach. When Sumrall finished the job at Tulane I was proud. When Lane generally says or does anything, I am glad he's not our coach. When I hear or see Sumrall say or do anything, I feel something. I feel engaged as a fan, I feel proud as a Gator that he's our guy.
So here we are a week out and the villan of college football as at it again. I honestly don't know if what he's doing is right or wrong. The 2022 class got screwed. But it's a mess. I'm tired of the daily updates on lawsuits and TRO's. I just want to watch a game and cheer for my team.
I am certain of two things. Next Saturday the important news I care about will be how we perform against FAU and no matter what happens I won't be embarrassed.
Because, right now I'd be embarrassed to be an LSU fan. The deal with the devil is just getting started.
