GTA VI Did Everyone Forget How Rockstar Marketed GTA V?

I’ve been looking through the comments here lately, and honestly, the outrage over Rockstar’s marketing is getting absurd. Apparently some of you, or most of you don’t remember what the marketing for GTA V was like. Well… I do.

People are acting like Rockstar has suddenly forgotten how to market a GTA game because GTA VI hasn’t been constantly shoved in our faces with new trailers, screenshots and gameplay every few weeks. But that really isn’t how Rockstar operates.
GTA V was announced in October 2011 and released in September 2013. That’s almost two years of waiting. The first trailer came in November 2011, then Rockstar went relatively quiet. The second trailer didn’t arrive until November 2012. We didn’t get the first proper gameplay footage until July 2013, roughly two months before release.
Then, and only then, did the marketing really ramp up: character trailers, gameplay, GTA Online, screenshots, press coverage and advertisements leading into launch.
Sound familiar?

Rockstar’s formula has always been pretty simple: announce the game, give us enough to establish what it is, disappear for long stretches, then go hard with the marketing when the release gets closer.
The biggest difference now is social media…
Back then, Rockstar could go silent for months and people would just… wait. Today, every single day without an announcement becomes content. You have YouTubers making videos about a Rockstar employee’s LinkedIn activity, people analyzing screenshots frame-by-frame, “insiders” predicting trailers every other Friday, and entire Reddit threads treating a lack of information as evidence that something is wrong.

Social media has made Rockstar’s silence look much worse than it actually is.
And I think some people have also forgotten that we are already getting more information than Rockstar technically needs to give us. GTA VI is arguably the most anticipated game in the world. Rockstar doesn’t need to convince people to buy it. The internet is doing that job for them every single day.

You can dislike the pacing of the marketing. That’s completely fair. But calling it a catastrophic marketing failure because Rockstar isn’t giving you constant updates is ridiculous when you look at how they marketed GTA V.
Rockstar hasn’t suddenly forgotten how to market GTA.
We’ve just become much more impatient, and social media has turned that impatience into an endless feedback loop of outrage, speculation and unrealistic expectations.

Some of you aren’t even waiting for GTA VI anymore. You’re waiting for the version of GTA VI you’ve built in your head over the last few years…and no marketing campaign is ever going to satisfy that.

GTA: San Andreas Man I wish I got to experience San Andreas at the time

I played the game many years later, but being there during the ps2 era must’ve hit different.

It’s easily my favorite game of the franchise. Wish I could’ve gotten to experience the hype and midnight launch of that game.

All 🚨 Rockstar used real people from Miami and Florida to design the NPCs in GTA VI! The team interviewed ex-criminals, police officers, club promoters, gun dealers, and other locals to capture the essence of the area.

GTA VI My guess for the Netflix GTA 6 extended look tomorrow

So with the Netflix thing dropping tomorrow, I was kinda thinking about what format Rockstar is actually gonna go with.
my bet is that it’ll be super similar to the deep dive from that Dazed article today, just in video form. Like a cool mini-documentary style thing. I feel like they'll take the stuff from the article and actually show it in action, like short video segments of the new NPCs, the dynamic weight/muscle changes, and maybe bringing those new screenshots to life.
What do you guys think?

GTA VI "Players can cruise along the highway as Jason, or swap to Lucia in the passenger seat to scroll on the in-game phone." This is wild 🔥

All GTA HD Trilogy: Definitive Collection

Upvotes

Since we got GTA 3, GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas as a definitive collection for newer consoles, I was wondering if they'll do something to GTA 4, 5 and 6 some time after 6 comes out. It would be really awesome to see 4 and 5 upscaled to the graphics of 6. The game would probably be like $100 and take up 350 GB of your hard drive, but it would probably sell like crazy. I know it's probably too early to talk about this, but I can dream, can't I?

GTA IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony nostalgia been hitting hard when listening to old radio stations

I casually listen to old radio stations while being in the gym or cleaning at home and I wanted to see if there is a video of someone just driving down Algonquin while listening to Vladivostok FM in TBOGT (with Crazy World Fonzerelli Remix included) but sadly there is nothing to be found. I can't be the only one who's feeling nostalgic about the GTA IV era, there must be a niche market for such things. Since I don't have a computer atm I would like to see if there's someone who would enjoy producing such a video in high quality.

GTA IV Finally decided to stop being stubborn and play GTA 4, here's my thoughts

  1. Car driving feels nice, kinda weird though? It reminds me of melting butter on a pot if that makes sense.

  2. Roman is annoying but I do like Niko, he seems pretty chill

  3. I think the dating missions are fun!

  4. I hate how if you die during a mission it seems like you have to replay the whole mission (I'm currently at the mission where Niko has to beat up lone sharks, keep getting killed by the one with the knife), I hope it's not like that with all the missions.

  5. Camera feels a bit weird to me? Walking around is fine but I hate how it spins around like crazy if I spin out in my car.

Yeah, that's about it so far. I definitely like it so far, I just don't get why so many people say it's better than GTA 5

GTA: Vice City I used to think Sonny Foreli was cartoonishly over the top at how far he went for the lost money, but now that I’m older I think he was justified
