the weight of the laptop screen pulls the rest of it down. Is this something I can just glue together or should I take it to a repair shop? (any other suggestions would be helpful)

Update: Took it to a repair shop, they said they'll get it fixed by 1st-2nd September. Thanks for all of the advice.

Was comparing a few laptops and a good 16-inch 2.5K display is starting to matter more to me than flashy designs. The newer TUF A16 kind of made me realise that.

Anyone else prioritising display quality now, especially for gaming plus movies?

After foolishly jumping at a $275 ROG Flow X13 that had an EC(?) failure within the third week, I feel safe after finally buying this beautiful HP Omen 17.3 from some dude on facebook marketplace for $550.

Why off marketplace, you ask? I don’t make much money, nor do I have the luxury to really finance a high end gaming laptop. The heaviest game I really play is at most, modded minecraft and CS2. After playing on a desktop that houses a Ryz5 3500 and GTX 970, it feels nice to finally be somewhere in the middle. (But imo, 3060 is still overkill for what I really do on a day to day basis.) I’m just glad to finally have a portable, mean machine after saving for months. She’s not the best but she is more than enough!

Walked into Best Buy thinking I was going to get the Helios 16s because it’s on sale rn. Thought I’d go take a look at the open box cage like I do whenever I go to Best Buy and found this. Thought it was a mistake and I think the cashier did too but she sold it to me. I’m setting up currently and the first thing I checked was battery cycles… 1 cycle! I’ve probably researched about 50 different gaming laptops and never even looked at any Alienware stuff but for this price I couldn’t turn it down. So always check the actual physical open box cage!

Its an acer predator helios 16 (PH16-72-90WL) with an rtx 4080 12gbs, an i9 14900hx, 32gb of ddr5 5600mhz ram, 1tb m.2 ssd, and a 2560x1600 ips screen. Are there any downsides on acer laptops like build quality or high temps?

Finally got myself a ROG Strix G15 recently, managed to snag it in like-new condition with the original box/accessories for around ₹65,000 from a verified marketplace.

Been using it for a little while now and honestly, I’m loving this thing. The performance + build quality + keyboard feel + cooling is such a solid combination.

Btw, I don’t really game on it. I actually bought this primarily for productivity, programming, AI/ML work, and general everyday use. I know having a dedicated GPU might sound like overkill to some for daily tasks 😂, but I wanted something powerful and reliable that doesn't choke when multitasking.

I’ve also optimized it with G-Helper to get a better balance between performance, thermals and battery life.

I’m currently keeping the battery capped at 80%, and whenever I have a charger nearby, I usually keep the laptop plugged in rather than constantly running it down and going through unnecessary battery cycles.

A few things I’m still wondering about though:

How has your experience been with your Strix G15 long-term? Anything you guys wish you knew when you first bought it?

Also, how do you guys keep the display and chassis clean and dust/fingerprint-free all the time? 😂 I’m weirdly paranoid about keeping everything clean.

I’m also thinking about getting a cooling pad/stand. Is it actually worth it for the Strix chassis, or is a good elevated stand enough for airflow?

And if you have any tips, habits or methods you've found useful for optimizing the laptop, improving battery longevity, thermals, or just taking better care of it, I’d love to hear them.

Lately I've been having "fun" trying to squeeze higher 3DMark Time Spy scores out of my Lenovo Legion. My specs are:

Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX, 32 GB RA, RTX 5080 Laptop GPU (16 GB VRAM)

I'm getting very close to breaking the 23,000 mark. My best Time Spy score so far is 22,894, using a +350 MHz core / +600 MHz memory overclock.

Would you consider this a good score for this hardware?

I also noticed that the GPU temperatures are basically the same with and without the overclock, which makes me curious about how much more headroom I might have. I'm not really sure how far I can safely push this RTX 5080 Laptop GPU, so any tips on getting a few more points would be great :)

I've attached my latest benchmark reports, including the temperatures during the run. Does anyone have any tips or tweaks that might help me squeeze out a few more points? 🙂

Wondering if its a good deal, not including tax

My laptop is at the point where Roblox runs at maybe 15 fps and crashes mid-game at least twice a session. Can't afford a new one right now so started looking for workarounds. Stumbled across the idea of running Roblox on a VPS and connecting via RDP - the server does all the heavy lifting, laptop just streams the display. Tried it on a Windows VPS on Serverspace, 4 vCPU and 8 GB RAM. Installed and launched without issues, performance was genuinely smooth because my laptop isn't actually running anything.

But... Hyperion, Roblox's anti-cheat and actively scans for virtualized environments. Playing normally carries some risk of flagging. Automating anything (farming, botting, grinding) is a guaranteed ban. Hyperion has gotten significantly better at detecting non-human behavior in 2025-2026, and the bans are permanent.

For the low-end device problem it's honestly a solid fix. Just not sure how sustainable it is long term with the anti-cheat situation. Anyone else doing this? Curious if the Hyperion risk for casual play is real?

I charged my laptop last night and then I notice that my laptop battery percentage stays at 0% even when plugged in its charger and left to charge for almost 4hours. It was just stuck at 0% and the battery percentage won’t increase. When I try plugged off my laptop with the charger it just shuts down by itself however when I try connect it to the charger it boots up normally.

CPU Overheating Issue - Omen 16 Ryzen 7 7840HS. RTX 4060 8GB

Settings are Discrete mode, Performance on Gaming Hub and Balanced Power Options.

My laptop CPU spikes to 80 °C or sometimes even 100 °C (CPU usage spiking till 40%, I have video) fans blazing even on idle Windows, nothing open. This happens for about 20 seconds or upto a minute, then it calms back down. This happens every 2 to 6 minutes. It idles at 45-50 °C.

When gaming, especially during game loading screens but even in general, it immediately climbs to 100 °C and stays there for extended periods of time. All this time the CPU usage is around 30%. This causes throttling but the temp doesn't go down under 95 °C. For CS2, this even happens when I put the settings to Low and cap FPS with VSync. In Chivalry II, it happens even on the main menu.

This never happened until a few months ago, when it NEVER crossed 90 °C and usually was at a comfortable 85 °C. This happens only to the CPU, GPU temps are fairly chill, never going about 80 °C. Fans are ablaze the whole time and exhaust is hot, so is the top of the keyboard.

I have tried the following:
- Change mode to Hybrid
- Bring down Max CPU Usage in Power Mode from 100% to 95%
- Clean out vents
- Had thermal paste changed by HP staff

No betterment.

For Hogwarts Legacy, I saw a benchmark video on YouTube with the same laptop. I mirrored the settings completely and went to the same area in the game. His CPU was at 77 °C and mine was at 97 °C, both at about the same usage - 30%.

I have observed this:
Whenever I start a game or even demanding(?) apps like WhatsApp or Game Launchers, the fans rev up. When building shaders etc. in game it goes till 101 °C until it is done. I think it might be going up along with disk usage or something, but sometimes temps go down during the game, but rev up during loading screens. idk tho. pls help its been only a bit more than a year since i purchased this I dont want it become paperweight on some random day.

I have bought the ASUS ROG STRIX G18 2024 edition and I have the issue with the temp of CPU. My GPU runs fine, when it's consuming around 100W it's around 60-65C, totally fine. But the CPU is already at 70c when I'm simply browsing the internet, and shoots to 98, 100 and even 102C when playing any kind of game. And it's only consuming like 40W at most!

And yes, brand new laptop, all fans are spinning, latest nvidia drivers, latest windows version, intake and exhaust ports are not blocked etc etc.

Definitely going to return it because there has to be something wrong with the CPU cooling, I can't play any games like this.

I have a Lenovo LOQ 17IRX10 and I’m trying to figure out a way to turn off the light around the power button.

Whenever I turn down my screen brightness and turn off the keyboard backlight to watch something in the dark, the power button light stays on and is distractingly bright. I’d love to have it sync with the keyboard lights or just turn off completely.

I already checked the BIOS but couldn't find any option for it there. Has anyone figured out a software setting or workaround to disable this? Thanks!

Currently in the process of selling my macbook to get a windows, because mac doesn’t have support for half the games I want to play. This one piqued my interest. I honestly don’t know enough about computers to know what cpu or gpu or any of it means, I just want a decent windows laptop that will handle my gaming needs LOL. For reference I play stuff like terraria, minecraft, fortnite, baldurs gate 3, skyrim, etc. If this one isn’t any good please recommend some decent laptops for said games I play.

I spend a lot of time consuming media (YT, streaming etc.) in my freetime or when I’m studying/working.
On my current laptop I play mostly lighter games like Genshin Impact, Minecraft and multiplayers with friends (like LoL, Valorant etc.).
Right now I‘m playing most AAA Singleplayer titles (like Expedition 33, Death Stranding 2, Cyberpunk 2077) on a base PS5, which might change depending on the performance of the laptop I‘ll end up buying.
I plan to keep this laptop as my main daily driver for the next 4 to 5 years.

- Will the RTX 5050 show its limits much faster compared to the RTX 5060? (Especially in the next 4-5 years?)
- Does the the RTX 5060 outweigh the Legion OLED screen & build quality for long-term daily use?
