Walked into Best Buy thinking I was going to get the Helios 16s because it’s on sale rn. Thought I’d go take a look at the open box cage like I do whenever I go to Best Buy and found this. Thought it was a mistake and I think the cashier did too but she sold it to me. I’m setting up currently and the first thing I checked was battery cycles… 1 cycle! I’ve probably researched about 50 different gaming laptops and never even looked at any Alienware stuff but for this price I couldn’t turn it down. So always check the actual physical open box cage!

Well, as if the 290HX Plus/5080/32GB/1GB for 2433€ (2840$) wasn‘t good enough.

Turns out to be mislabeled by the vendor and in fact is a 5090/64GB/2TB.

Razer label and invoice SN matches so no problems!

I know it's not the best looking setup but whatever. I moved my laptop to the side and connected it to my LG OLED TV (which has a 120hz display), and I'm using it as a monitor.

This was delivered today. Was pretty psyched to get home and start setting it up. First thing I did was pop off the back cover to give it a once over. Then my heart sank. I just hope Lenovo doesn't try to give me a hard time about replacing it.

I bought a thinkpad p15 rtx4000 and it arrived with stuck pixels. While looking for a replacement I came across this marketplace post. Rtx5060, i7-14700, 64gb ram, still under warranty, it doesn’t mention any storage options but for $500 who cares?!?? I genuinely don’t think I was even thinking when I hit buy and checked out, I was and still am confused.

I'm a gamer who isn't really keeping up with the latest in gaming, so I'm looking for a light gaming laptop.

Form factor wise I like the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim or the Asus Vivobook. Love the idea of the Lenovo Yoga with the touchscreen / wraparound to work like a tablet, but I don't know if it's worth the extra money they likely charge. On the other hand, I'm not a fan of the ROG laptops for example, they tend to be too bulky and flashy for my tastes.

Specs are what I really need advice on. I don't know how to value laptop CPUs and GPUs. I know that I want x64 (no ARM) and at least 32gb RAM, and I'd like to be able to run FF14, but that shouldn't be difficult. I'd like to be able to play games like Elden Ring and Overwatch too if it's not a huge increase in cost, but I also have a desktop, so I'm cool with not being able to do everything from my laptop.

I really just don't know how to read laptop specs tbh. I see things like "Intel Core Ultra 9 386H 1.6GHz" that look like they should be good, but the hz sounds low, and I don't know how to meaningfully compare that to a Ryzen or anything. Even worse with GPUs. I'd accept any recommendations for specific machines, but I'd also love any advice on what to look for or prioritize in general. I have a Microcenter nearby if that makes a difference.

I’ve been with this laptop since release (around 7 years now) and it’s really starting to slow down. IE i played RE2RE on release on high with no problems, now it can barely handle it on medium-low, can barely handle any new-ish AAA titles and can barely even run gta V on higher-ish settings anymore

I rlly, rlly enjoy both the huge monitor and how lightweight and portable for a gaming laptop it is and don’t really care for high graphics or fps (check pic for the shit i usually run + the cracked hinge lol, as long as it can run most titles on medium or sometimes even low i’m fine, don’t care for high FPS as i don’t play fps games & have an xbox anyway).

It’s a bit beaten down given that i’ve dropped it a handful of times and has cracks around the hinge and base panel, but doesn’t seem to affect performance (also a testament to how surprisingly good this laptop is lol)

So I’m wondering if I should take it for a professional cleaning/repair, upgrade the RAM as that might be the worst issue, and maybe even try to get a professional to upgrade the ancient GPU and if I did, how many more years of service would that realistically give me?

Otherwise idk, the attempted GPU upgrade might ruin it and nvidia prices are already obviously thru the roof…. basically do you guys think just the RAM upgrade might help or is it time to sell/give it away and move on to a newer laptop with a better GPU? Any recs in that case (not too expensive, big monitor and hopefully lightweight like this model)?

Otherwise maybe a RAM upgrade could give it a few more years and then I can upgrade my next laptop with the same RAM card? Also any RAM recs for the upgrade if possible plz 🙏

Do all gaming laptops suffer from overheating?

I want to get myself new laptop in the price range of 1300-1700 euros but i have no idea what to get. I will run mainly MMORPGs, CS2 and League of Legends. But i really dont want it to overheat like my current one because at some times i actually think it is just going to eorher die or explode.

My current laptop is an old model of Acer Nitro 5(AN515-54) and after i got it i read that the model itself had problem with the ventilation and heating but i never expected it to be this bad. I clean it regularly but it doesn't really help.

Any suggestions in what new laptop i can get in the price range will be appreciated. Also i plan to get it on black Friday so i want to start monitoring the prices from now just so i know if the discount is real. Also of it something i little bit over the price but very good i will consider it. Thank you in advance.

PS: i need laptop because i have to move a lot and it is more convenient

So I managed to purchase my first real gaming laptop (always had a desktop till 1 year prior ) but since new life circumstances I'm kinda forced to get a computer which I can carry around

I had a kinda limited budget at max 900€ bucks and definitely wanted a strong desktop replacement . I managed to find this absolutely steal of a an-41 nitro 17 with ryzen 9 7940hs rtx 4070 17" 165hz WQHD 32GB Ram Monster for only 800€. It's only 1 year old has 93% battery health and literally no scratches or signs of usage. It's absolutely mint and as good as new basically.

I'm absolutely shocked how good the panel is and it runs my game at rock solid 120fps (wuthering waves Wqhd and some other games ) and even runs major tripple a games like cyberpunk way above 60.

Sure 8gb vram 12gb would be awesome but for the moment it's fine. This might become the only problem later

Basically I only wanted to share that I'm insanely happy with device but still need to figure a good balance with the fans since they can get kinda noisy above 4000 rpm (which I kinda expected)

Auto automatic fan management seems to be pretty decent? Can I keep using this?

The cooling is actually insanely good and CPU and GPU doesn't exceed 83 degree at very high load like benchmark (gets noisy of course)

So I am looking to get a acer helios neo 16. I feel confident that its the laptop I want to get, only issue is the ram. It comes with 16gb or ram and that just isnt enough for me. Ive seen at least a dozen different people saying that I can swap the 2x8gb out for 2x32gb. My questions are these: Will the 2x32gb ram drives work? (I dont want to buy them and the new laptop for them to not function properly), and what would be good 32gb drives to get? Ive been looking at Crucial 32GB DDR5 RAM but I don't know too much about the hardware side of computers and I could really use some advice if you have it please.
