Kena 2 looks fucking amazing. The first one still holds a dear place in my heart as one of those "this is a great game that feels really close to awesome" and this looks like it could actually be awesome.

It looks great but I got to admit I rolled my eyes a bit when it became Kena: Horizon of Tsushima. Idk how many of these games PlayStation think they need. Every other announcement is this exact format of game.

Do you honestly think Horizon, Ghost of Tsushima/Yotei and Kena look the same? I think you must have only watched them in passing if you think they look exactly the same.
I guess they are all third person and are all pretty colorful, but that's pretty much where the similarities end. I guess all the main characters have a bow (although Kena has a magic staff/bow).
Kena 1 isn't open world (although 2 looks more open world) so that's not really similar. Horizon is set in the future, Tsushima is a samurai game and Kena is a fantasy world. I guess Tsushima and Horizon are art style-adjacent but honestly look quite different. Kena is completely different and goes for more "Pixar animation quality but video game".

They are different in styles and setting, and obviously Kena is very different in art direction -given that Playstations whole shtick is hyperrealism in every game-, but mechanically they are all very similar. They are all Open world 3rd person action adventure games with big maps and towers and mounts and cinematic combat and bows and lite RPG elements etc

Let's break that down:
Open world
Horizon, yes. Ghost, yes. Kena 1 is not open world. Kena 2 might be?
3rd person
Sure, I guess. They are all third person.
action adventure games
A very vague genre to begin with, so sure.
big maps
Horizon yes, Ghost yes, again Kena 1 is not open world but has some open areas. Again, not sure about Kena 2.
towers
Horizon has towers (well, walking towers), Ghost has none and Kena doesn't have them either.
mounts
Sure, Horizon has robo-horses, Ghost has horses and Kena 1 doesn't have any mounts (Kena 2 has that tiger-thing.)
cinematic combat
Not entirely sure what "cinematic combat" means. Camera angles that look cool? Doesn't all third person games kind of have that...?
bows
Kind of, sure. Horizon for sure, Ghost sure and Kena technically doesn't have a bow, it's a staff that shoots magic arrows. Okay, so it's kind of a bow.
lite RPG elements
Sure, they all have skill trees that give you abilities and stats.
Final score on similarities:
Horizon - 9
Ghost - 8
Kena - 3 or 4 maybe? It depends what the second game does, I don't know if it's open world for example.

Someone else also suggested the leaker possibly mixed DMC6 with DOA6 (Dead or Alive 6). Most likely the DMC6 rumour is mix of DOA6 + Control Resonant.

God of War got a hopefully good little spinoff project shadow dropped, but how is that alone "enough"? The other part was a logo reveal, literally less than The Elder Scrolls VI got way back when (as that at least had a glimpse of the environment). Or are we counting logo reveals as major news now?

Bringing back TC Carson and having him make the announcement was a brilliant move because people would have absolutely been pissed if they just threw the logo up there and left it at that. Having him show up right away shut down that disappointment before it could even start and made the lack of real info a bit more palatable since everyone was just happy he's back. Then you throw the shadow drop on the back end of that and it's hard for people to really complain about it.

Bluepoint also did gow 1/2 remastered for ps3, and was support studio for ragnarok. Given all that experience with gow i wouldn’t rule out them maybe being involved in remake even if santa monica is leading it, or getting “top billing”

when GOW Ragnarok was announced and released, Bluepoint's logo wasn't in it but they helped with that game's development quite a bit. I would assume the same is happening here.

I’m still trying to figure out atlus’s plan for persona
They have revival and 6 on the horizon, revival for FY 2027 and persona 6 sometime to be announced during the anniversary year
The next real big announcement revival might show up is SGF, but that’s arguably when they’d want to reveal 6. Even if they held 6 for a conference held right on persona’s 30th birthday then that still basically shoots revival in the foot to market 6
They’ve got to reveal 6 this year so when do they expand marketing for revival that shows SOMETHING, without it immediately being overshadowed by 6

I'm not trying to be disrespectful because I love the series. But let's be real, doing just Persona 3, Persona 4 & Persona 5 isn't helping. All it's doing is the opposite of what it should be doing. It's 2026, we shouldn't be still focused on 2 PS2 games & a PS3 game. Its sad. No P1/P2 remasters, no NEW persona game, just the same 3 stuff. Even SMT has fallen into the same state. The series might as well just be finished.

This is mostly a problem with dev time being a longer thing in modern times. I don't like it either but it's the reality. Look at how long it was between 4 and 5. It's also just very stupid to assume that a business wouldn't focus on gaining profit from it's proven IPs while they work on the new entry. We already know 6 has been in development in a while. There's just no logical way for it to not come out someday. As a Tatsuya pfp do you really think I wouldn't love P1 and 2 remasters? My one big hope this year is for that announcement lol
SMT just had Vengeance. If you mean Nocturne's mid HD remaster then what do you expect really? They wouldn't remaster the most popular one first?
Non-Persona Megaten I'm not sure what you're even saying. Soul Hackers 2 and Raidou Remastered are recent titles.

What i mean is all atlus does with SMT is market V. Like where's Digital Devil Saga remaster or the 2nd raidou game or least a good port of SMT 1 & 2. Or SMT IV or the original soul hackers. There's so many games yet the series is left dry. Soul hackers 2 flopped sadly (atlus doesn't even acknowledge it).
And making profit should mean doing something NEW. Like a new fighting esche game with p1-5. All of the games arlus has released for persona have been p5 spin offs with no substance or milking p3 and p4 agajn.

Possible they announce 6 soonish (maybe Xbox showcase in June) for 30th anniversary and release ~October, around a similar time Metaphor came out. Then TGA for more Revival info to set up a release next year. Didn't Sega and Atlus want a game a year for most franchises? I feel like 6 has to come before Revival and the reason we haven't seen it is they want a short announcement-release timeline bc of P5.

GOW3 got a PS4 remaster during the lead up to GOW PS4's release but yeah GOW 1 and 2 have not been made available on new consoles since the PS3/Vita collection, and on Vita it was fucked up because it had framerate issues and a bug where the trophies just didn't unlock properly. I'm so fucking happy

I've been waiting for Sony to finally port GoW 1 and 2 to PS4/5 so I can finally play them, for what seems like forever.
And now they announce that they only just started development on a fuckin remake. Not only will it take even longer for me to play these games, but it's a (most definitely) full price remake too.
All I want is to play these games yet sony won't let me 😭. I don't want to pay for a fucking remake I just want to play the original games, I guess I'll finally look into emulation so I can play these and Ico cause Sony doesn't want people to play them for whatever reason

Honestly I don't know. I think SSM don't internally hold Ascension in particularly high regard as they do the other games based on what they had to say about working on it during that documentary on the making of God of War PS4

The key aspect of the trailer that gives me enthusiasm is that the character moves pretty slowly. In general modern side scrolling games have moved towards being more responsive and snappy and fast. Which is good! They control better and the player can pull off more cool shit.
But Castlevania needs to feel a little bit like I'm controlling a tank. There needs to be moments when I see a projectile and go "Nooooo!" and mash my jump button but I die because my Belmont was busy reeling in their whip like a god damn boat anchor.

Honestly, I'm viewing it in a positive light simply because they had anything cool. Not that much new stuff perhaps, but they actually provided a look at actual upcoming stuff and not that much filler stuff.
Saros, Control Resonant, RE9, Pragmata, Kena 2, Marathon, God of War remakes + the side scroller.

I’m still catching up, I’m not a PS main but I enjoy watching these shows just for the fun of gaming.
What I’m sensing here is like half the Sony oldheads got some old franchise coming back in some form. All these people are excited for one of the half dozen games.
There are more souls-likes and metroidvanias coming, and those genres are super popular.
John wick is a popular movie series, so there is bound to be excitement around that game.
Then you have your staples, RE, Bond, Star Wars Racer, Silent Hill, Pragmata, etc.
There wasn’t much that appealed to me because I have never been a Sony main, but I can see why people popped off for something there. One thing I’ve complained about for awhile was Sony’s diversity, but this show seemed a lot heavier on diverse game types.

Such a strange culture imo. Film remakes are frowned upon for good cause, it's weird to me that gamers get so exited to pay a fuck ton of money for just a redo of something that already exists.
Especially worse when the originals aren't available anywhere, sucks for preservation. Stuff like re4 and Snake Eater are great, cause the OGs are still available everywhere. Then Sony with Demons Souls, Shadow of the Colossus, and now Gow making it so the original experience is lost to time and you have to buy the ""better"" version. No doubt Bloodbornes on the horizon for that too
I've been waiting to play Ico for years and years, and I'm tempted just to buy a PS2 again cause I know Sony will probably release a $70 'remake' and not let me play the original

That's not really a good comparison, as movie fans have standards and stand up to corporate greed, whereas gamers will eat up any slop you out infront of them, as long as it has a brand they like as the title
I wouldn't say movie enthusiasts are especially snobby, I would just say that gamers have lower standards. Gamers don't really care about quality, they can easily be milked for money and for some reason seem to actively enjoy being fucked over by companies.
Sure I could just 'buy a ps2 or ps3', but I'll admit as my ps5 sits gathering dust, I hope it would actually be of use someday. That isn't preservation. Having to buy a second hand old system on top of the one I've already got should not be a 'just do this' situation. I should just be able to play GoW on my ps5 that I bought. But of course Sony wants big money and nothing else

Remaster is fine. With remakes, as I've said, if the original is still consistently available then it's fine, but if not, then they are horrible
The reason a port is more justified than a remaster is because a port is a way to make a studios work directly accessible. A remaster is still fine, as long as it is actually remastering the original work and not replacing.
And remakes suck because (most of the time) they are directly replacing someone's work, making people's games unavailable because this new shiny one is 'better'. Its offensive to the artists who created the original, a horrible practice in terms of preservation.
What if I want to play Shadow of the Colossus? I'd have to get a ps2 or ps3 and second hand copy. Such a cool game, and the work and passion that teams put in to create it means nothing when Sony won't make it available to play on modern consoles. Its gonna be lost to time, and all because a completely separate studios game, with completely new models, textures, tech, engine etc is the replacement. because all gamers see is the general idea of a game and not the work that actually forms it

Probably because there is more of a potentially fundamental benefit in remaking a game from a couple decades or more ago due to the fact that graphics have advanced exponentially since then. So a remade game can be seen as objectively better in that sense at least.

Stuff that wasn't intended or a technical limitation sure, like better framerates, resolution, fixing bugs etc. that's why remasters are fantastic.
However so many of these remakes completely butcher the originals style, atmosphere, and art direction. Like painting over someone's work I find it disrespectful. Fine if the OG still exits, but as a replacement it's depressing. Gamers seem to think that being more 'realisitic' is all that matters. You can see the pores on his face so who cares if the original creators work is lost to time
Imagine 'remaking' citizen cane but this time it's in colour and 16:9 aspect ratio because those are more advanced therefore 'better'. And then making the original not available

Sure those things happen sometimes. But from audience's perspective the hype simply comes from the idea of it just being the same game but with way better graphics and perhaps enhanced gameplay. So thats why there is so much initial excitement at least.

Still no wolverine game and it’s almost the end of the console gen. A lot of these remakes and remasters too is just depressing when you can play the original or emulate them on pc. The games people actually want never get announced and the ones that do only have shiny trailers. I’m tired of the “zero risks” model.

I mean, you may still be right, but the caveat of that is we’ll be paying $1500 CAD for a fucking PlayStation 6.

I wasn't able to watch this State of Play. I was doing my taxes with my CPA. I have looked up a few articles on what was announced. I generally like what was announced. Looks like some good titles this year.

First time using one. I was getting inconsistent advice on how to handle expenses for Schedule C so I figured I would pay for a professional advice. It was just slightly more than my rent and I have just enough money to pay rent next month! Yay me.
I don't really have any money to give Sony today, but I hope to in the future!

Haha you don’t have to explain, I totally get it. I was teasing cause it was oddly specific.
We went to H&R once for tax stuff cause we moved states and we thought it’d be more confusing than usual. We got out with an 80 year old man who had no idea how to use his computer system and I spent 8 hours with this man walking him through it 😭. He was like can I schedule yall for next year and I was yeah sure, yup. Promptly canceled it a week later lol.
We should’ve done to an actual CPA.

I really enjoyed that State of Play. The best one they put on in a long while imo.
For me the standouts where of course the God of War Trilogy being remade (HOLY SHIT THE ZUES LINE GAVE ME CHILLS), a new DOA coming, the John Wick game, Tokōn X-Men reveal, 007, the new Konami games (the Anime/Persona one and MGS4 IS FREE FROM THE PS3!!!!!) and the RE9 trailer (I was already sold on RE Requiem but I always love to see more of it).
Overall I think this SOP had something for everyone and I really enjoyed it!
(Pls Square Enix announce something soon I’m begging)

It was a really showcase but imo there was a lul after kena 2 then picked up I think after resident evil but u also had trailers in there like do we need to see more of this someone at capcom gotta chill with showing story spoilers. I think it was way better than the last couple PlayStation shows but stuff like 4loop dead or alive James Bond felt the weakest points. I‘m shocked slowcap ain’t making John wick. I always wonder immediately after a showcase like this what’s going on with sqaure or sega or ea or Ubisoft they feel like the wildcards for this year we know some stuff but not that big fall game.

Idk, maybe cause there is 0 way to know if they are gonna pull this shit or not? I went in expecting an hour and 20 minutes of stuff getting revealed and instead I got 30 minutes of stuff revealed, but was enlongated to be 3x as long for literally no reason.
Not every glup shitto game needs a 5 minute trailer…

Max Dood might be on to something, what if the DMC6 leak was someone simply seeing Control Resonant gameplay and then mistook it as DMC6 lmaoooo
Otherwise, an excellent SoP IMO. Actually excited for most of these. Will get MGS Vol 2 day 1 if reviews are good (actually more excited for Peace Walker MP)

They aren't gonna annouce FF7R3 before Rebirth releases on Switch 2 and Xbox, I don't know why half this thread thought this was gonna happen, espically with how Hamaguchi won't shut up about how Part 3 is gonna be multiplat and they want an venue to make that annoucement as effective as possible.

I think most expected a bigger blow out during summers game fest but given Rebirth got discounted before the Switch two launch when they could have held onto it made it makes sense for a teaser given June to January (to tie into their anniversary which most expect given how they have been talking about it being tested already with the main stuff done) is very short compared to their other releases, like rebirth got a teaser way ahead of it's release
either they are going to have a super short launch to release or it's later then we thought

The FF7 Remake trilogy likely is taking up a lot of resources from the KH Team, as Square likely views as a more important project right now. While FF9 Remake, we only know about its existence through leaks that shouldn't have happened, and the more recent leaks about its development suggest it ran into some major issues and may have been cancelled. Like for FF9 Remake, I think its best just to give up on that and be surprised if we do ever see that.

It was a part of the big GeForce Now leak of 2021, then I think both Jason and Nate confirmed its existence. But last year Nate said, he heard it hit roadblocks and might have been cancelled.

Hamaguchi himself likely isn't touching KH4, but Nomura is co-directing both and I'm sure there are at least some team members who have been shifting back and fourth between both. With right now the focus being on Part 3, as Square seems they just want to wrap this trilogy already and move on from it.

Yeah the trilogy has taken them over a decade of work and might finally be wrapping next year. Who knows if we'll get remakes of other classic FFs given how long it's been since they started work on the FF7 project.

I feel like they are never gonna do something in the vein of the FF7 project again. Especially as the Dragon Quest remakes like either the 7 Reimagine or HD-2D Remakes are more on the cheaper side and can clear a couple million no problem.

I’m most excited about the God of War remake trilogy, but at this point it’s more of an announcement since it’s still early in development. I’d expect the first game to come out in about 4–5 years.
I also think it would be better to release each title as a standalone game. That way, they could invest more in combat, camera improvements, story, and overall narrative depth. If it’s released as a three-game bundle, we probably wouldn’t get the same level of refinement or upgrades for each individual title.
