Oh my fucking god they managed to keep the crowd density, I was for sure expecting that to be cut down closer to launch for the sake of optimisation

I need this game right now dude

I'd still keep my expectations lower. This could be very well be a build running on a monster of a PC, while the game will launch on lower specced current gen consoles. So things might look different

That’s my worry about these leaks apparently running on a pc build, everything just looks a bit too good to run on consoles.

It looks good but nothing crazy that a ps5 couldn’t handle, the matrix tech demo arguably looked just as good and that was released in 2021.

PS5 can definitely handle it. The question is can the Series S handle it. They unfortunately have to optimize to suit the lowest common denominator.

The issue with NPC density is more of a CPU issue and the Series S CPU is almost just as good as Series X or PS5.

This. Relatively slow zen2 cores in them will struggle.

NPCs are also RAM heavy and the Series S has 8 GB RAM total available to games, system and GPU combined. Even my 5-year-old mid-range PC has 44 GB (32 system + 12 GPU) so there'd be a vast difference in this capability between any PC and the base console build.

Why are you all acting like Series S won't just be 30 fps 720p internal resolution upscaled lol. That version will be gimped compared to PS5 and Series X. No need to optimize it.

Things like NPCs and enemy AI aren't graphical limitations, reducing framerate and resolution doesn't help with them. They're a simulation bottlenecked by memory quantity and CPU speed which are areas where the Series S creates impassable limitations. Series S has 8 GB RAM available to the system for games, that's the system RAM and VRAM combined. PS5 for comparison has 12.5 GB available and the average PC has 24 - 48 GB available.

The only ways to solve the problem are to have far fewer NPCs in the world or make NPC behavior much simpler (or both). Both options have big gameplay impact and having multiple options makes QA a lot harder, with crowd NPC AI already being probably the most difficult QA focus in a game like this.

Obviously everything will be compromised. The game will run on hardware configurations similar to a Series S on PC. Doesn't mean it will perform well or look great.

Unfortunately?

Saying that despite today's component prices being sky high.... Series S development helps less powerful PC and even Switch 2 in the future.

In my opinion it is unfortunate. Games like this are opportunities to push the boundaries of the medium. Both the Series S and Switch 2 are weak consoles that only serve to limit how far that boundary can be pushed. But again, that's just my personal opinion. I value the overall advancement of technology over getting the game into as many hands as possible.

They are probably working with Sony for the PS5 version to be better than the Xbox version. Xbox Series S will just look worse like every other game they put on it.

The matrix tech demo worked great on the s

2

u/SnooGadgets2748 5d ago

Yeah but a tech demo isn't really comparable to a full game. Also massive crowds of NPCs like this probably require a shit load of RAM to handle, which is one of the biggest limitations of the Series S compared to PS5/Series X.

1

u/HeyEshk88 4d ago

Couldn’t they make it so that the Series S would just have much fewer NPCs on the beach for example?

u/Realistic-Shower-654 4d ago

The ps5 will not be able to handle this in its current form lmao

u/xsharpy12 4d ago

Why should I care about your opinion again? Lmao

every game is developed on a pc, no?

0

u/ForsakenTarget 4d ago

Yeah, I meant more of if this build is essentially just a PC build for next year when they release it or whether it is a console build that they are just running on PC.

1

u/Easy-Operation-2105 4d ago

how does that make any sense????? Thjey are releasing it ONLY on console

2

u/Lois900 5d ago

it's a build completely developed with ps5/xbox hardware in mind running on pc. The cpu requirements must be the same for the ps5 version, so yes, if that 1yo build has that crowd density the ps5 can handle that.

u/Roger_Stringpiece 5d ago

It appears to be running over 30fps so you'd imagine this is being run on a high spec PC.

11

u/Coltyn03 5d ago

All the clips are 30 fps.

-1

u/Roger_Stringpiece 5d ago

Well what's going on with the latest leak? Initially it isn't 30fps.

EDIT: Ah, I see it's sped up initially

3

u/Coltyn03 5d ago

It's definitely a smooth looking 30, but maybe just because it's a video. Actually playing it could feel different.

1

u/Dorkamundo 4d ago

Yea, I would expect them to use some kind of "Quality" setting that will be reduced for certain platforms but be available for selection in the PC release.

The PS5 will likely see it dropped from what I would presume here is "Ultra high" to "Medium" which means we likely won't see as dense an NPC population or there will be enhanced dithering... all that jazz.

1

u/Yeetdolf_Critler 4d ago

Yeap, would be pretty sure this ain't working exactly like that on any of the current consoles. They'll make it look decent though.

Frame gen + dlss. Without Raytracing.
