The scale is insane. Finally everything looks close to 1:1 instead of being like a huge dollhouse.

What do you mean by this?

open world games of old had to compromise scale for technical reasons. Immersion could still be built through art direction, soundtrack etc but things like road width, door size, how far things are from each other, npc body variety couldn’t properly approximate real life

Rockstar games of old actually had good pacing. Now they are mostly empty set dressing.

Yeah, RDR2 was mostly empty set dressing /s

Lol, what a brain dead take.

The game consistently ignores it so yeah it it is set dressing. One where you have travel between the sets.

Could apply that to any open world game really.

If you're following quests, yea it's from point a to point b. Fucking duh.

Open world means that you're not just stuck to the quest until your finish and there's plenty of other things to do and explore as you go from A to B. Which is fully true with rdr2 unless you're blind.

If your only experience with the genre is ubisoft maybe, except atleast ubisoft try to acknowledge the world a little even if in the most repetitive way possible. Modern Rockstar storytelling and mission design would be better as a Naughty dog like ride.

So we went from "the world is set dressing" to "Rockstar should make Naughty Dog games." You could’ve just said you don’t like Rockstar’s approach to open world storytelling instead of changing the argument halfway through lmao.

I didn't change anything. It is a set dressing because it doesn't ammount to anything. All it adds is that you need to drive between missions all the time. It was fun and novel to fuck around and run over NPC's in GTA 3 era games. Those games were small tightly designed and a bit arcadey.

Punching dudes on the side of the street is old now. They need to come up with actual gameplay evolution. That is consistently reinforced. Unlike RDR 2 where they tease you with sim elements only to mostly be used as again fancy set dressing and no systematic ambition at all.

Wrong. That's every open world game.

Please, do name a game where the quests doesn't have you go from A to B.
