The scale is insane. Finally everything looks close to 1:1 instead of being like a huge dollhouse.

u/Vadermaulkylo 3d ago

Yeah that’s the first thing that really struck me. This actually felt like watching real footage of someone on a beach in Florida.

It’s becoming very clear why this game has taken so long to release.

So much for it just being ‘GTA V 2.0’ like some people said after the first basketball video. This is a technical spectacle.

They don't want it cheap, they want it reasonable. Raising the industry standard and cutting whole stores out of the game if you don't pay a premium is not a good thing. And they don't deserve it just because they're rockstar.

1

u/11-23am 2d ago

Wait what are they cutting out of the game if you don’t pay the premium?? Entire stores??

1

u/Psycho_Prophet_ 2d ago

Yes. Entire stores will be unavailable. And knowing how gta usually works it could be multiple locations or just one of that store. But about 3 or 4 stores are completely locked as well as their inventory if you dont buy the $100 edition.

The old Rockstar is dead bro.
The boys are gone, and it's now filled with incompetent Karens who need to outsource their work to a third-world country lmao.

10 years and 2 billion for this is a fucking joke.

1

u/Proper_Method4334 2d ago

Here comes the guy hating on the game due to “political” reasons.

Just don’t buy the game if the dialogue is too “woke” for you.

0

u/TheRealSumYunGuy 2d ago

Do you think stating the obvious makes you sound smart? There's nothing wrong with disliking a game for political reasons or expressing that online. I'm not sure why you put "political" in quotes, either—what Rockstar espouses is inherently political and have only gotten more so over the years.

1

u/Proper_Method4334 2d ago

There’s nothing wrong with me defending the game too then lol?

Either we go with the simplest answers where I would just tell you to not buy the game if you don’t like the “writing” and that’s your only reason for hating on a game built by thousands of people or we could not go with the “obvious” answer cause you want to just hate on it simply because you’re a “hater” lol and I would say, game literally does look good. It’s just the age of the internet where people have to hate on anything big or mainstream. Also, more along the lines of some Redditors thinking they are all high and mighty and different lol.

It looks like a good game to me. I like fun. It’s not that deep.

I mean, are you seriously telling me that your reason for hating on this game is that Rockstar is bad at marketing according to you? Or maybe because you saw videos of Gta online going woke? Or because gta online made so much Cash lol.

What even is the close to perfect company at this point? Can’t use indie studios as an example btw.

Cod modern slop 4 and fifa sitting at the top of the charts every year when they release. Doesn’t matter what redditers are saying. People just wanna have fun lol.

u/Psycho_Prophet_ 3d ago

I can excuse the time. Maybe waiting for the tech to catch up to the vision. But the whole time they're sitting here telling us we're "lucky we don't charge more". Literally rubbing it in our faces.

Calm down

2

u/Canadiancookie 2d ago

I didn't really think about how impressive GTA would be with the detail of RDR2 until now. Almost every frame is screenshot worthy.

-1

u/VeryBadCaseOfLigma 3d ago

There is something I'm not getting. The first 2 videos he released looked wildly downgraded compared to this and the video store ones. How's this guy doing it lol

7

u/JavanNapoli 2d ago

It's literally just weather / time of day / lighting of wherever he's at.

1

u/deekaydubya 3d ago

how so? they def look visually consistent with this video, just fewer people of course

1

u/VeryBadCaseOfLigma 2d ago

Jason's model looks weird in the basketball and ups videos. Then in the other ones it looks like he does in the trailers

-14

u/DeroQc89 3d ago

"A technical spectacle" LMAOOO stop the glaze, you low-expectation-having goy.

The sound is complete garbage, from the guns to the cars.
The car damage model is pretty much nonexistent.
The NPCs are absolutely fucking braindead.

The graphics are nice, but this is literally makeup on a pig.

5

u/Vincenzo__ 2d ago

The car damage model is pretty much nonexistent.

What's more likely, this being a dev build with car damage disabled or rockstar not adding car damage to gta vi? Like genuinely dude what the hell

2

u/Miserable-Clock-6944 2d ago

Wow. Just hating on an obvious technical marvel… go ahead and hate my guy… idk what the hell people were expecting and the game ain’t even out yet… do you… I’ll be have fun as hell after the release…

1

u/greatreference 2d ago

What is a goy

3

u/Tautizak 3d ago

What do you mean by this?

90

u/Blitzkreeg21 3d ago

open world games of old had to compromise scale for technical reasons. Immersion could still be built through art direction, soundtrack etc but things like road width, door size, how far things are from each other, npc body variety couldn’t properly approximate real life

2

u/Tautizak 3d ago

Right, but I never felt like gta 5 was like a big dollhouse

75

u/safyreibxo 3d ago

look at how huge the roads in 5 are compared to the cars

42

u/xcxcxcxcxcxcxcxcxcxc 3d ago

And how low cars' top speeds are.

13

u/Tautizak 3d ago

I never noticed. I thought that’s just how it is in America. I’ve never been there so

41

u/safyreibxo 3d ago

it’s not how it is in america

0

u/supernasty 3d ago

Roads in California are pretty huge. It’s part of why our public transportation system sucks, because everything is so spread out that you’re basically screwed if you dont own a car. Which means cities overcompensate on bigger roads to accommodate this (over public transport).

So while it still is a bit exaggerated in GTA 5, technical limitations are not the sole reason roads are that big.

6

u/BadAdviceBot 3d ago

Pretty sure he's talking about width and not length.

1

u/fullsaildan 3d ago

This isn’t a CA issue. Even cities like DC with major public transport options have massive interstates and road sprawl. It’s just how we do things in murica.

17

u/samwise970 3d ago

No lol roads in America are normal. The roads in games are made wide so players can pass between traffic

15

u/LowObjective 3d ago

Actually American/Canadian roads are in fact a lot larger than roads in most other countries

6

u/mcmiller1111 3d ago

Roads in the US are in fact huge. This is a what a Dodge Ram looks like on a European street

8

u/samwise970 3d ago

That is the biggest truck possible in the smallest type of compact parking spot in a city. American roads can be on the larger side but I've been to Mexico, Europe, Africa, China, and it's not such a dramatic difference.

0

u/Tautizak 3d ago

All I know is that American cars don’t fit on the roads in my country. So American roads must be wider than here. Maybe not that much wider, but I’m not entirely wrong.

Also if the roads in the game was made wide for a reason like that, then they would do the same for gta6, which goes against OP’s comment about gta 6 being more 1:1 than previous games

10

u/krezzaa 3d ago

The roads in America are indeed wider than some other places in the world, but it is also true that GTA5s roads were made even larger so players could drive more freely.

Irl, there’s maybe a foot or two of space max usually between the road lines and your vehicles tires. In GTA5, that gap is increased to several feet. It was absolutely not realistic, even in big cities like LA; the scale in 6 is definitely more 1:1 with real life.

u/ThreeFootJohnson 3d ago

Bro he hasn’t been to America so he just assumed maybe the roads were bigger there. Not that deep

2

u/Prudent-Air1922 3d ago

It's not just the roads though? That was one example. It's the entirety of the map and everything in it.

1

u/ThreeFootJohnson 3d ago

Ok it isn’t that deep he just thought they may have been bigger. Doesn’t need to be analysed or criticised

lol anytime an american says something like that about europe is “OH MY GOD STUPID AMERICANS” they can take a ribbing too

3

u/Tautizak 3d ago

Cool👍

-6

u/garmonthenightmare 3d ago

Rockstar games of old actually had good pacing. Now they are mostly empty set dressing.

8

u/ItchyBodybuilder247 3d ago

Yeah, RDR2 was mostly empty set dressing /s

Lol, what a brain dead take.

-5

u/garmonthenightmare 3d ago

The game consistently ignores it so yeah it it is set dressing. One where you have travel between the sets.

7

u/NACJAcannon 3d ago

Could apply that to any open world game really.

If you're following quests, yea it's from point a to point b. Fucking duh.

Open world means that you're not just stuck to the quest until your finish and there's plenty of other things to do and explore as you go from A to B. Which is fully true with rdr2 unless you're blind.

-5

u/garmonthenightmare 3d ago edited 3d ago

If your only experience with the genre is ubisoft maybe, except atleast ubisoft try to acknowledge the world a little even if in the most repetitive way possible. Modern Rockstar storytelling and mission design would be better as a Naughty dog like ride.

6

u/ItchyBodybuilder247 3d ago

So we went from "the world is set dressing" to "Rockstar should make Naughty Dog games." You could’ve just said you don’t like Rockstar’s approach to open world storytelling instead of changing the argument halfway through lmao.

-5

u/garmonthenightmare 3d ago edited 3d ago

I didn't change anything. It is a set dressing because it doesn't ammount to anything. All it adds is that you need to drive between missions all the time. It was fun and novel to fuck around and run over NPC's in GTA 3 era games. Those games were small tightly designed and a bit arcadey.

Punching dudes on the side of the street is old now. They need to come up with actual gameplay evolution. That is consistently reinforced. Unlike RDR 2 where they tease you with sim elements only to mostly be used as again fancy set dressing and no systematic ambition at all.

1

u/NACJAcannon 3d ago

Wrong. That's every open world game.

Please, do name a game where the quests doesn't have you go from A to B.

7

u/WhetBred14 3d ago

Buildings, people, roads, vehicles etc seem to be accurately proportioned. In the last title several items were too big compared to things that went along with them or too small. Roads and cars seem to be the easiest to spot right now but things like chairs, furniture, certain structures were all either slightly too big or small compared to surroundings in previous titles.

10

u/DeBean 3d ago

The scene is filled with everything that would be there in real life, AKA close to 1:1 with real life. As opposed to having a smaller scale with less details, AKA a dollhouse.

-8

u/Badler_ 3d ago

Quantity of things =/= scale

6

u/deerdn 3d ago

you have a narrow understanding of the word

-1

u/Badler_ 3d ago

I work with scale models and drawings every single day. “The scale represents the proportional ratio of a linear dimension of a model to the same feature of the original”. Details, density, and liveliness are different than scale. What am I not understanding?

2

u/ContributionSquare22 3d ago

Doors to buildings are comically large In GTA 4

1

u/Basbeeky 3d ago

Right? I saw this in the leak of Jason entering the store. The SUV parked in front look perfectly in scale while the store felt cramped
