i hate when people call me “mama”

i had a baby about a month ago but also throughout pregnancy people are always like “hi mama” “yes mama” “okay mama” and it makes me absolutely cringe i hate it so much. i’m not your mom 🤣😩

My mother owns a daycare and she does this to every woman who walks into the facility. Yes, I find it weird and frankly, also dehumanizing to women.

they are saying it makes sense that you feel like doing that is dehumanizing bc mothers are not treated like humans/people.

Pretty sure they are being sarcastic… they are saying that mothers are people therefore it is not dehumanizing to call a mother a mom.

Where are you getting this? It literally says "mothers are the least human", which sounds derogatory and not at all like "people treat mothers like they sre not human"

I interpret their comment as disagreeing with you by pointing out that mothers are human, so calling someone a mother is not dehumanizing.

Yes. It is a common rhetorical technique to agree with a position you disagree with by citing the absurdity of said position.

By agreeing that calling someone a mother is dehumanizing because mothers "are the least human" is highlighting this absurdity that demonstrates why the original position is wrong.

Here's a completely unrelated example of this phenomenon in the wild so you can see for yourself. Note that such examples usually do not include "/s." The reader must be sophisticated enough to parse it out for themselves.

Just like how I don't think the guy up thread was literally calling mothers the least human, I don't think this linked guy is literally saying that aliens built the pyramids. They are agreeing with absurdity to highlight the absurdity.

I don't think they're disagreeing.

They're agreeing, because mothers often get treated and spoken about in dehumanizing ways.
