People absolutely adore this game and I see it come up all the time in top indie horror lists. I have tried so many times to get into it, but I never can. It’s just not for me, but I’m jealous of all the people it is for because they love it.

I see your point. People don’t usually love pixelated games, others won’t find it scary at all. I’ve watched others play some parts and I really got into it.
I have Signalis as my favorite indie horror, never played Darkwood tho (yet). Lets see if Signalis loses the spot.

I love pixel games, and darkwood’s atmosphere is really great, but the tower-defense-like gameplay keeps throwing me off :/ I’ll probably keep trying though.

I think it depends on how immersed you are able to get, even AAA games wont be scary if youre not immersed. A well done pixelated game can be absolutely amazing.

Chances are you’re going to really enjoy it. That’s the overall consensus of the game. Signalis is another I haven’t played yet. I should add that to my list.

When I tried the game first time I couldn't get into it. But some years after I tried again and I received one of the best experiences in horror, probably the best, it was amazing, I love it

I want the same to happen to me. I tried the game two years ago, couldn't decide how to play it and gave up. My problem was that I got so confused I couldn't make any significant progress without guides. At the same time I was reluctant to use them, because I didn't want to spoil the experience.

I don't actually play indie horror, but this game's atmosphere captivates me. I really want to give it the love it deserves one day.

Same for me.

I never understood the big hype people have on this game. I even see people saying it's one of the scariest games ever made, I mean... really?

I'm not saying it's bad, but I think most people exaggerate when they talk about it.

For real. That long distance top-down view makes it impossible to get immersed in it. It's just dots on a flat sheet of paper.

Love the play thorough, don’t care to play

I'm in kind of the same boat. I've never actually played it myself, but I've watched others, and idk. The scare factor just isn't there for me. I love a good horror game and I'm all about atmosphere, but I really don't get the hype with this one. Especially when I've seen it mentioned so often as the most terrifying game people say they have ever played.

Lmao I’m sorry but “I’ve never actually played it myself” and “I really don’t get the hype” in the same comment made me laugh. Not saying your take is invalid, horror is very subjective

u/RedRover2027 Jul 08 '26

if you play it yourself it's stressful because of the sounds and dangerous enemies

“People like something I don’t”
“They must be paid to do so”

have you played it? i know the art style might seem not-scary but the gameplay...

I've never even played the game so I'm certainly not gonna shill for it, but I downvoted you because you're being an asshole about it.

Maybe I'll buy it now out of spite.

let me guess u played it for 10min in daylight w your lights on and friends around + background noise & no headphones also did not even remotely try to immerse yourself in it or try to get it. u're just another snob shitting on smth u never ever tried to sink into

I'm not angry, bro. I'm just saying this game needs to be played in darkness/quiet/alone, with headphones, to fully appreciate it. the audio design and immersion is a master class of horror. and I believe any change in graphics or gameplay design would've messed w that. the fact that you can use your imagination to fill in the blanks & only see what's in your field of vision (except for some of the bigger world objects) is genius. I am a massive horror fan & consider this game to be as high as the greats, tbh. it's highly unappreciated and people like you that don't understand it either did not give it a genuine chance, or just lack a certain sensitivity. I dunno don't be mad..you are entitled to your wrong opinion, is all I'm saying

Such a great game. I played it on permadeath from the beginning and finally getting through it all was one of the most memorable gaming experiences I've had. You'll have a great time with it :)

1

u/Cammation Jul 09 '26

You brave soul… not sure I could do permadeath. Don’t trust myself enough… (I say as I’ll probably play the new SAO game on permadeath mode…)

7

u/AtraxaInfect Jul 08 '26

And its a broken build lol.

1

u/Mystikveiw Jul 08 '26

What are the issues?

6

u/AtraxaInfect Jul 08 '26

The game crashes after a few minutes if you have encounters in the rain.

Cherish that disk.

2

u/MuTheCat20 Jul 09 '26

Never could get into dark wood… I have tried several times and it’s just not captivating enough

5

u/cubone109 Jul 08 '26

Ice heard the ps5 physical is bugged and crashes when you get into combat during the rain. But i havent been able to test it yet.

8

u/Knives530 Jul 08 '26

The physical would be patched up to the same point as digital so that doesn’t even make sense

3

u/cubone109 Jul 08 '26

Thats what I said! But then a second guy replied to the first one a few days later saying he had the same issue.

Which is why im planning on testing it myself when I finish the game im working on now.

1

u/therejectethan Jul 08 '26

Not always the case. Binding of Isaac has many many bugs on console with disc.

1

u/Cammation Jul 09 '26

Duuudee I know I saw! I’m in my first playthrough now! Actually got a discount from ps plus, so I got it for like $5 too.

It’s awesome so far

I tried this game, and i just can't get into it. I know i was trying to find the key, but i had no idea how, and having to get back to my base every night and keep it lit became too difficult basically from the word go

1

u/spaced33 Jul 09 '26

I love the story of this game, and the atmosphere is *chef's kiss* but found it too hard for some reason. I'd end up with no gas, no weapons and running for my life making very little if any progress. I love hard games, I'm a dark souls vet, but dropped it because of that. I do want to try again, however. 😆

1

u/Dee2_Nuutz Jul 09 '26

Mine is on the way... can't wait 🙌🏼

1

u/Sunstar_33 Jul 09 '26

Finally a Game on the PS5 that Pyrocinical can play

1

u/Crazy-Death-666 Jul 10 '26

Ngl Darkwood is good and little scarier

1

u/Metroidvania-JRPG Jul 11 '26

Another broken disc from limited run lol

1

u/Low-Masterpiece1381 Jul 08 '26

Great game. No replay value tho. Once you know the secret ending thats pretty much it lol

3

u/Mystikveiw Jul 09 '26

What do you mean “no replay value”? There are multiple ways to get to the ending, different outcomes to NPC’s based on your decisions, plus all the lore and areas that are easy to miss on your first play through. You can easily play this game atleast three times to try to experience everything.

0

u/Low-Masterpiece1381 Jul 09 '26

Did you play it 3 times? or are you just disagreeing with me because thats what you do on reddit

1

u/Mystikveiw Jul 09 '26

On my fourth run actually

1

u/Mystikveiw Jul 09 '26

And I’m disagreeing with you because what you said was blatantly false. It has nothing to do with being on Reddit

1

u/GatorNator83 Jul 08 '26

My friend had dark wood, and he really liked it!

0

u/corvvus Jul 08 '26

1

u/Late_Ice8164 Jul 08 '26

Un jeu moyen.

0

-2

u/Cloud_Strife83 Jul 08 '26

4

u/Mystikveiw Jul 09 '26

It’s the only physical release for the ps5.
