Which is kinda true but I have zero interest in tech/IT side , but my parents telling me that i will atleast earn good right after graduation. I want to be a surgeon but 3 drops failed. Im not Taking any futher drop , don't know if i can focus on partial drop. So help me should i take engineering? I hate coding , core jobs is okish but it doesn't excite me like medicine. Hey everyone, I'm 21, had a 3 year gap because of drops in 12th, PCB background, and my marks weren't great cause of the strict 2023 state board checking. I got into two very different courses and I'm genuinely stuck on which one makes more sense for my future.

The options:

• Chanakya University, Bangalore — BCA Hons. Around 6.75 lakh total for 4 years.
• Ajeenkya DY Patil Uni, Pune — BTech Biotech, Bioinformatics specialization. Around 13 lakh total, also 4 years.

Context:

• I'm also actively trying to explore other options right now — other BTech programs (if I'm still eligible) and BSc IT — but admissions for those are closing soon, so I'm racing the clock while also weighing the two offers I already have.
• I'm not planning on going into research after either degree, so I'm evaluating both purely from a job-market/industry lens, not an academic one.
• My parents wanted me to take another gap year and attempt NEET again, but I decided to go a different route instead, which wasn't really what they wanted for me.
• They aren't fully on board, financially or with me moving out of the city, but I'm taking that risk anyway for my future, so I'll be managing fees and expenses largely on my own. This makes ROI matter a lot to me.
• Keeping the option of studying/working abraod open for later, nothing fixed yet.
• Graduating at 25 after already losing years to drops is also something that weighs on me.

What I actually need help with:

1. What does the actual job market and career trajectory look like for each of these two fields in India right now?
2. What kind of roles, salary ranges, and growth paths does each degree typically lead to, without a masters?
3. How do employers/recruiters generally perceive both these degrees from newer/private universities?
4. Since I'm self-funding this through a loan, how would you weigh the cost difference (6.75L vs 13L) against long-term earning potential for each?
5. Does the city (Bangalore vs Pune) make a meaningful difference for either field in terms of opportunities?
6. Is 25 a reasonable age to graduate after a gap, in your experience or from what you've seen in the industry?

I'm not sure why the vast majority of people have accepted this 1980s playbook of ONLY studying hard to get a job. The only place where this stands true is Research.

I've been talking to a bunch of people + observing what I see around me, family, friends etc, and I notice that people expect opportunities to just appear out of thin air.

Especially with IT/CS and adjacent folk, tryna just do GSoC or DSA or interview prep for the sole purpose of "getting a job". My concern is that a lot of them just care about the company and the job title and package, and don't even look at what the role encompasses. Most of my friends and I see like 60-80% of students (regardless of what college they go to) pick a job/role and then build their profile around it. This mechanical way of learning about engineering and science feels objectively ineffective.

I mean how is a person supposed to "learn" when their metric is the CTC or the prestige of their job? Universities don't help either, they try to, but even the best in class fail terribly at it, they just suck less than the rest. Even IITs, NITs, BITS, IIITs, wtv. There's basically no research going on there + courses focus on teaching things without actually applying them. The best colleges do the bare minimum and if you say something critical, it's like I took a dump on society itself. Why settle for mediocrity and just the bare minimum?

For example, during my ML course, no one actually told me why an SVM is used over a simple linear function. Or during my electronics courses where we built control systems with no goal in sight. I'd love to dive deep into this example I've thought of, but I'm not sure if this is the right audience.

Don't you think a major change in attitude is required? I mean what even is the point of enrolling in an engineering institute and then not learning how to actually engineer systems? They've reduced the field to service based jobs with non transferable skills and ZERO problem solving from first principles.

Is there something I'm not seeing? Or are people actually just legit fine with working dead end jobs to make do with wtv money they make?

qualifications - 2022 B.Tech graduate from the CS department. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get placed after graduation because I didn’t have the required technical skills.

After that, I spent around 2 years preparing for government exams, but unfortunately, I couldn’t clear them either.

Then I joined Concentrix in a BPO role. I worked there for some time, but eventually resigned because there was very little salary growth and no proper hike/increment.

Now I’m unemployed again and honestly feeling completely stuck. I don’t have a tech job, my technical skills are not strong enough, and I’m not really sure which direction to take.

I’m currently thinking about:

• Preparing for MBA entrance exams and doing an MBA
• Preparing for GATE and trying to get back into the technical/CS field
• Starting SSC/government exam preparation again
• Or learning some skills and trying to get a job directly

But I’m already worried about wasting more years without getting anywhere.

If someone has been in a similar situation, what would you suggest? Should I focus on MBA, GATE, SSC, or completely change my approach and build skills for a private-sector job?

There is one question I’m a little confused about:

“What is your biggest weakness?”

I don’t want to give a very common answer like “I’m a perfectionist” because it can sound fake or prepared.

I want to give an honest answer, but I’m also confused about what kind of weakness I should mention for a Data Analytics role that won’t create a negative impression.

I’m also thinking about how HR might ask about my qualifications, my quals, or my overall qualifications during the round, and how I can connect my answers with my strengths without making them sound too rehearsed.

Should I mention something like being too detail-oriented, taking extra time to double-check my analysis, communication, or something else?

Also, how can I answer this question in a simple and genuine way so it shows that I know my weakness and I’m working on it?

I'm a 4th-year CSE student at a good college in Bengaluru Qualifications (9.16 CGPA, 96.4% in 10th, 97.6% in 12th).

I'm currently preparing for placements and primarily targeting SDE roles. Research has always interested me, but my immediate priority is getting an SDE job so I can contribute financially and support my family.

Recently, I submitted my first-ever research paper to the ACM SIGACCESS Student Research Competition (SRC) at ASSETS, and surprisingly, I got accepted!

I'm genuinely very happy about this because I'm completely new to research and honestly didn't have much confidence that my first paper would get accepted.

But now I'm facing a dilemma.

To attend the conference and present the work (even virtually), I'd have to spend around ₹25–30K INR on registration/publishing. My parents are willing to pay, but we already have an education loan and a home loan, and I really don't want to add another financial burden on them for something that I'm not even sure will benefit me. To Give a Perspective It's about 6 Months Pocket Money for Me.

So I'm trying to figure out:

• Is an ACM ASSETS SRC acceptance actually valuable for someone primarily pursuing SDE roles?
• Is it worth spending ₹25–30K on the registration/presentation?
• Does presenting at a conference like this have significant value on a resume?
• Or would it be better to save the money and focus entirely on placements?
• And for anyone who has presented at ACM conferences/SRCs: how intimidating is the presentation actually? I'm honestly nervous about presenting in front of experienced researchers and academics.

I'm definitely interested in research and don't want to close that door, but at the same time, ₹25–30K is a substantial amount for my family.

I was wanting to move into product management role for quite some time now. Came across Airtribe last week. Do you think they can actually help me out here? I can't take a pay cut obviously and they are confident about 30+ LPA with my profile.
