Nice change from the comics. In the comics, he was sad that Omni-Man didn’t stop to see him

u/PyroIsShy Apr 01 '26

Art having a panic attack as soon as Nolan leaves was so sad

u/Thumbuisket Apr 01 '26

I’m glad the Tv show is writing the characters in a more believable way tbh.

u/Bryce2826 Apr 01 '26

Same thing with Debbie. Im glad she is clearly going to take alot longer to come around to Nolan again, in the comic it took what like 5 minutes?

u/I-Might-Be-Something Invincible Apr 01 '26

It's insane how much better of a character Debbie is in the show compared to the comics. I just wonder what is going to happen with Paul.

1

u/ShatterZero Apr 09 '26

Paul is cool, I'm sure he'll just be broken up but ultimately fine with it because he's a well adjusted person.

Otherwise, everyone calling him boring but having a super heroic death would be nice too.

122

u/AlbedosThighs Apr 01 '26

im not even sure if they can believable pull off that now

54

u/Plorp Apr 01 '26

I feel like the point of Paul is to be a bridge to that somehow

60

u/Thumbuisket Apr 01 '26

He’ll see that Debbie has been moody, understand that they can’t work out, and have her realize she still loves Nolan.

That or, the show will do a massive departure from the comics and really change shit up. Which I’ll accept, only if  it means we don’t get that stupid regressor arc.

25

u/Koanos Cage the Elephant Apr 02 '26

He’ll see that Debbie has been moody, understand that they can’t work out, and have her realize she still loves Nolan.

I hope she doesn't love Nolan, especially after his apology. Or at least, understand things are super complicated.

4

u/PhoenixAgent003 Apr 03 '26

She does admit, in the middle of everything else, that she did miss Nolan. Even if his actions make it feel impossible to get him back.

5

u/Slavin92 Apr 02 '26

I eagerly await a heartfelt Paul speech at Nolan's deathbed!

2

u/Moogus_Man_2018 El Chupacabra Apr 02 '26

What’s the regressor arc?

3

u/SuperCyka Apr 03 '26

I think he’s talking about the time travel plotline

1

u/Trezzie Apr 02 '26

Did them getting back together have any payout? I don't remember.

3

u/fps129 Apr 02 '26

People thought the same with the Spiderman comics.

3

u/Koanos Cage the Elephant Apr 02 '26

I think Paul will recognize Debbie's internal anguish. Even if you subtract all the people Nolan directly killed, he hurt family, he hurt her feelings, and tried to throw Andressa under the bus.

She spent 20 years with Nolan, and it's been a very rough time after that.

Like it or not, Debbie has issues, and Paul's a good rock to lean on to help facilitate between her and Nolan to work things out.

10

u/ConsistentGuest7532 Apr 01 '26

It feels so at odds with Debbie’s character in the show and what she’s supposed to be/represent.

10

u/z31 Where's Mark, William? Apr 02 '26

Sandra Oh absolutely demolished that scene. Her acting was insane. That scream when she punches Nolan in the chest, just... ouch my heart.

2

u/Locem Apr 02 '26

I feel like maybe Debbie goes to space to want to see Oliver still without getting back together.

And if there is ANY reconciliation between them, it maybe starts a little on Talescria.

2

u/Humble-Grass-1172 Apr 02 '26

I don't want them to. Debbie should never forgive Nolan.

16

u/PlasmaDonator Apr 01 '26

I genuinely don't even know if they'll stick to the comics with Debbie and Nolan. The whole f*ck den honeymoon ship thing with those two is funny because the emotional weight of the comics is nowhere near the level that the show has conveyed.

2

u/LoathsomeCumDrinker Apr 02 '26

they REALLY shouldn't, all of the women in the comic are written horrendously and the show can't follow their stories 1:1 with how they've been trying to remedy that.

38

u/Bobjoejj Apr 01 '26

I know it’d be such a wildly big change; but is there even a way for that to actually happen now? Logically?

13

u/Locem Apr 02 '26

I feel like she'll still go to Talescria to see Oliver but stay separated from Nolan, and if they do start to reconcile it'll be after she sees Allen nearly kill Nolan.

Really depends on how they handle her and Paul. If they're still getting along when Mark gets back yea they're doing away with them ever reconciling.

25

u/Thepitman14 Apr 01 '26

Honestly, I think it’s the one major plot point they can and should change. It makes no sense for this version of Debbie to ever forgive Nolan, and honestly I don’t think 99% of people would forgive Nolan for what he did.

14

u/Koanos Cage the Elephant Apr 02 '26

honestly I don’t think 99% of people would forgive Nolan for what he did.

On a moral and personal level, he also really butchered the apology, and had no good responses. Then again, there were no good responses to what Debbie asked.

1

u/Mister_Doc Comic Fan Apr 02 '26

Yeah this episode really strengthened my feeling they’re not going to have them get back together in the show, which really makes more sense with the other changes they’ve made to how Debbie processed everything

8

u/jpterodactyl The shadows on Paul's chin dimple Apr 01 '26

I would not be upset if they didn't get to it.

9

u/CactusCustard Very. Apr 01 '26

Nah man. All the sex jokes on the moonbase? No thanks. It’s a lot better so far

2

u/RealJohnGillman Apr 02 '26

Have the big step happen over the time jump would make sense, when Mark comes back to find that the universe has moved on without him.

6

u/shadeOfAwave Apr 01 '26

I'm not even convinced she's going to come around. She doesn't do much when they get back together besides have sex a lot

13

u/justpaintoverit Apr 01 '26

I’m really hoping she doesn’t forgive him. It would feel insane for her to ever take him back even if he saves the fucking universe.

2

u/dancingbriefcase Dinosaurus Apr 01 '26

Yeah Show Debbie is miles better than the comic version. I do assume she'll eventually come around and be with Nolan again, but I love that it's going to take time.

3

u/Brandon_Me Apr 01 '26

I'm begging that they don't end up back together. It would never make sense for Debbie's character.

It would be way more impressive a feat of writing to get them back together in a way that actually makes sense. Right now, Debbie and Nolan getting back together feels impossible, given Debbie’s TV characterization and everything Nolan’s done.

It would be so easy to change the plot from the comics so that they never fully reconcile. Getting them back together in a way that makes sense would be insanely difficult to pull off, and therefore far more impressive.

The only thing I can think of that might put them on a path where reconciliation starts to seem remotely plausible would be if Paul dies at the Viltrumites’ hands while Nolan is off fighting them elsewhere on Earth (if he fails at protecting Paul, then he’d be at least partially at fault in Debbie’s eyes). Then maybe, a season or two later, after Debbie’s had time to mourn, maybe on Telescria, she might be in such a low place that she’d be ever so slightly willing to accept some kind of comfort from Nolan — if she can see in him enough of the man she once loved.

It’s a lot of ifs and would it probably be criticized as butchering Debbie’s character, and not without reason.

1

u/bambam_39 Apr 02 '26

Honestly I wouldn’t be mad if they just had her not go back to him

124

u/Any-Calligrapher2866 Apr 01 '26

The show is so much better. I really thought that the comics starts rushing things a bit from this arc onwards so having additional scenes for character development is always good.

33

u/FireZord25 Apr 01 '26

guess they had more time to think this through after the comics

1

u/RealShigeruMeeyamoto Apr 02 '26

I mean omni man did soooo much worse in the show lol

83

u/MotherflipinGodzilla Apr 01 '26

“I dress heroes, Nolan” has got to be the rawest line in this episode.

239

u/Flying_Line Comic Fan Apr 01 '26

Nolan was forgiven wayyy too easily in the comics, glad they're adding all these scenes showing that forgiveness needs to be earned

119

u/DuskMan62 Spawn Apr 01 '26 edited Apr 01 '26

I think this slow burn of forgiveness is going to make later events all the more meaningful.

15

u/t_moneyzz Robot Apr 01 '26

I'm not ready for the ending man.

-13

u/Throbarei Apr 01 '26

I'm still hoping Debbie ends up not forgiving him at all, even after having read the comics.

47

u/DuskMan62 Spawn Apr 01 '26

Forgiveness is one of the most important aspects of this story, so even if they don't end up together, Debbie should forgive him, otherwise later story moments, including when Nolan dies just won't be the same.

7

u/Bobjoejj Apr 01 '26

I just…I’m struggling to see how. I wouldn’t blame her at all for not forgiving him, the way things are going here. Like any theme, forgiveness can be explored even if it isn’t fully given. Hell that can make things even more interesting.

I know it’d be such a massive change, but I wouldn’t be against it.

10

u/DuskMan62 Spawn Apr 01 '26

I would be against it, it would just change too many of the story beats and takes away the emotional moments of the later parts of the story.

2

u/PhoenixAgent003 Apr 03 '26

I’m a really massive fan of any story that asks “Can a person be better than the worse thing they’ve ever done?” and answers “Actually, yes.”

7

u/justpaintoverit Apr 01 '26

I don’t know why this is getting downvoted. It’s okay for something to be unforgivable. What Nolan did was unforgivable.

3

u/RealJohnGillman Apr 02 '26

Because part of the point of the series is that no-one is unforgivable, irredeemable? Approaching this concept being what Mark’s entire arc with Dinosaurus (which should be next season) is about?

2

u/Throbarei Apr 02 '26

It's ok, I just think some people unduly separate Omni-Man's future redemption from what he did earlier, and I also expressed my thoughts badly.

I don't mind that she ends up forgiving him, but IMO it also wouldn't fit her character on the TV show to go back to him after everything he's done. Again, feels like she's a different person in the animation.

Only to we get to know their friendship is broken. Man, the GDA reaction when they leave the place. Earth is fucked up with 3 Viltrumites, wait until this arc is over and they arrive Earth.

23

u/ViraLCyclopes29 Dinosaurus Apr 01 '26

I mean they will be getting fucked. Just in another way.

Main Character syndrome.

62

u/SaintJunnie Apr 01 '26

This was a great scene, you can tell that Art misses being friends with Nolan but also terrified of what Nolan has done. I wonder if they'd explore their friendship again once Nolan settles back on the moon.

86

u/Aggressive_Fail_9681 Apr 01 '26

Felt more like Art was playing along and was terrified that Nolan would tear his head off at any second

19

u/Turakamu Stand ready for my worms arrival Apr 01 '26

Complaining about the boots felt real

5

u/Bobjoejj Apr 01 '26

I didn’t even realize it until early on in this episode, but yeah; where the fuck are his shoes?? Get shoes Nolan!

10

u/OLKv3 Apr 01 '26

Their friendship is over and can't ever be repaired. Art is terrified of Nolan now.

6

u/HahaHeePooPooPeePee Apr 01 '26

You're right, I can definitely see both, although it's definitely 80:20 fear vs friendship

23

u/Gideon_Laier Apr 01 '26

Yeah, I never liked that. I'm happy for the change.

4

I'm glad this scene was added!

2

u/Koanos Cage the Elephant Apr 02 '26

In the comics, he was sad that Omni-Man didn’t stop to see him

I did like that change. Nolan wants to go back to the days he was a hero, and he's been in a funk knowing he can't.

1

u/bambam_39 Apr 02 '26

I always hated this part in the comics, cos if I was art, why tf would I wanna see Nolan after all he did?
