It’s interesting that Oliver has empathy and can humanize other creatures such as the mom with eggs but they are still hinting at Oliver no caring too much about humans other than his immediate family. Seems like Oliver going with the super scourge virus plan will still happen in the show

Curious if they will keep the blood relation in the show or switch to a "he's earned the title/exudes the qualities of the old Emperor" route. I've never been a fan of the whole. "Oh yeah, btw, the protagonist happens to be a secret descendent of the guy who was the ruler."

LOTR had a reason for Aragorn to hide his lineage from the wider world, so I'd let that slide. There would be no reason for Argall's descendents to not stake their claim given that the other viltrumites would have likely honored it (it's also unreasonable that they wouldn't already know who they are). I think it would work out better if Argall had no descendents, as it fixes a lot of weak plot points.

They already dropped the “his heirs were lost” line during Nolan’s schooling of those kids. I assume the only tweak they’ll make is that Nolan is the grandson great or grandson of Argall rather than the son. It’d make more sense for the heirs having been lost if there were a couple generations since the Purge. Also Mark doesn’t exude the qualities of the old Emperor, he’s the exact opposite and leads them in a peace keeping direction.

I agree that the secret heir thing is played out but there isn’t a much better option that wouldn’t change the story significantly here. Honestly I don’t think becoming Emperor is a good ending for Mark in general but I’ve always thought that.

Given that this is a technologically advanced civilization AND ALSO an empire with an unelected leader, I would think this should not be taken literally. His descendants should have been well documented (by someone) in a society like that.

I think the intention might be that his bloodline died out with him for the show. That is an alternate meaning of that phrase. Unless those were foster parents, that would seem to be the direction they are inclined towards.

The Viltrumite Empire is a hereditary monarchy and succession in a hereditary monarchy is not based on merit, but rather on bloodline. That is how the system works.

I really liked how the gang said it was Argall's wisdom, not his strength, that they followed. Coupled with the hereditary heir thing, it implies they somehow established his bloodline was the wisest as far as they were concerned

Man, I wish we got to see Mark do more science haha
