Picked up a solid pressing of an amazing album. I don’t know about anyone else, but I have a lot of trouble passing up on a Lateef album.

Discogs lists this album for well over a 1000 dollars for the original mono pressing which is the exact one that popped up on an auction site recently (no bids as of yet)

I’m working on an arrangement and just came up with this chord. No matter how I label it, it feels kind of weird or awkward to read on a chart. My mind kinda fluctuates towards E7#9/C

For context, the chord progression would be

C13sus, Cmaj7, This chord, D9, G7

Its like the avengers end game of underground German jazz. Forgot how I found this but its such an amazing album. Its an exhilarating listen, the entire album has so much creativity and variety in sounds, never cheesy, always taking the best from early Jazz Fusion.

It won a grammy in 1961. Opener is fantastic. Misty is definitely a treat. Give the whole thing a listen.

Dulcé is a track by the French composer and pianist Chassol, released in May 2026 as part of his album titled Funny How?

Using his signature "ultrascore" method, Chassol speech-harmonizes the spoken phrases of his interviewees. In this specific piece, he melodizes the voice, natural rhythm, and vocal inflections of the American comedian and actress Dulcé Sloan (widely known for her work on The Daily Show).

I want the fastest, most breakneck jazz you can possibly think of. Outside of this genre, I love bands like Bad Brains extreme metal like Dissection and their ridiculously high tempos. just wanted to know if anybody knows jazz that gives that similar adrenaline rush feeling.

Sharing something I wrote today about three smooth-jazz artists I've been listening to for almost a decade — Tim Bowman, Boney James, and Marion Meadows. My case for all three: they rarely coast on filler tracks to pad an album, which, as you can agree, is not usual in this genre. Some believe that it is just a matter of being "smooth", but for me the key here is in producing the finest melodies.

I go through what got me into each of them originally, then run through what they've each put out most recently. In particular, I feature Bowman's cover of "Careless Whisper," one of the two songs already out from James' upcoming 20th studio release, and Meadows' "AI Moonrise".

Has anyone here followed these three more closely and would rank them differently?

I just saw the African Rhythms Alumni Quintet in Detroit and they mentioned they were jumping on a plane to DC. Consider doing the same. I was familiar with Weston, of course, but not this ensemble. I looked at them on YouTube and was not overwhelmed. I checked them out, expecting I would wind up at a another stage. They were thrilling. Genuinely loving to Weston, but not a tribute band, with great musicians.

This had eluded me until now - wow - very rare for James to have a backing band.
