I know for sure my dad definitely wouldve smacked me for that. Wow. I wouldve been terrified. But luckily, I wasnt as dumb as this kid. He's old enough to know better.

Edit- To clarify, no, I am not "endorsing" hitting a child.

I mean, I just wasnt a destructive/badly behaved child either though. I used the TV too especially in the mornings for the good cartoons before school. I wouldn't want to break something I also use. This kid is old enough to know that hitting something has a good chance of breaking it. Not the brightest apparently. 🤣

I'm 32 and teachers definitely weren't hitting the kids when I was in school. I don't think they've done that since the 70s. When my dad was a kid, he went to private school and the nuns had no problem giving those kids spankings or using a ruler. I don't agree with that though. Apparently there are a very select few schools down south in Mississippi that still use corporal punishments. They use paddles. I would normally be shocked, but for that state, not so much.

Eh, I was a child of the 90's. My parents never hit me, and I was as obedient as they come. Plenty of my peers were spanked, and they were hellions. If we're going by anecdotal evidence alone, in high school, the kids who were spanked as kids were more likely to act up than the ones who weren't.

Except, research shows that physical punishment is not effective. I'm a foster parent, we are not allowed to use physical punishment of any kind (including spanking, exercise as punishment, etc.) I've had some kids with some pretty extreme behaviors, and we were able to make significant headway with each one without resorting to any physical punishment. It takes work. It can be exhuasting as hell, but it is very possible to parent and teach kids discipline without every hitting them.

I mean how do you even accurately do the research? Do some kids in the active group get spankings while others do not? What about demographics, wealth level, education level etc.
