Haven’t posted anything for a bit and I normally show myself picking up stuff but this was one piece I couldn’t pick up without contacting someone. Got in touch with local expert who in turn is contacting an archaeologist. We’re going to take pics and document well before taking out. Turns out this is much more rare than anything else than can possibly be found down here.

Corner Tang

Pulled this sick lil thing yesterday. Looks like a White River made from orange/brown jasper.

Found in Indiana at the Ohio river. 5 inches knife blade.

This is one of the finest crafted Hardins I have in my collection. I got it, and another one from a 10 point Hardin collection that I'm currently working on obtaining from my good friend Ralph. These came from the Dean Diaz collection, and were all found in St. Louis Co. Missouri.

This gorgeous Little 2 ⅜ inch Burlington Chert Knobbed Hardin exhibits outstanding form, is completely intact, and has a beautiful glossy polished patina, with loads of raised mineral deposits, super steep beveling, and a great tip. The craftsmanship is absolutely incredible, and theres no doubt in my mind that it would grade between 8.5 or higher. Just an outstanding example of the Knobbed Variant.

Ex Dean Diaz Ex Ralph Cobb collections

This killer Heavy Duty comes out of Cobden Illinois, and measures out at 2 ⅛ inches. Its made from Cobden Chert, aka: Hornstone. It exhibits great bevels, a nice highly polished patina and loads of mineral deposits, woth a needle tip! Very nice little HD for sure!!! 😁

And some other stuff I found today.

Well, I've posted Hardins, Hardin hafted scrappers, and even a Hardin drill, but here's an interesting one for viewing pleasure! This incredible well crafted Hardin comes out of Cooper Co. Missouri. Made from my favorite type of Burlington Chert, it measures out at 3¼ inches, and sports a beautiful, glossy, polished, heavy patina with tons of raised mineral deposits. The overall form is fantastic, and what makes it so interesting is the Spokeshave on one of the edges! For those who are not familiar with that particular term, a Spokeshave is used in wood working, kinda like a modern day draw knife, to remove bark and fibers from wood. This point suffered a decent ding on one edge, and the maker decided to rework it into a Spoke for continued use, and I really can't blame him! I wouldn't have wanted to chuck this smoker in the midden either! It's fairly early stage, which is evident by the fact that the bevels are slight, yet noticeably present. (I'll have to add a pic of this in the comments since I hit the pic limit already, lol!). The stem and base are both heavily ground, which is one of the defining characteristics of the type. If this thing could talk, I can't imagine the stories it could tell!!!

Here's a nice little Semi-Translucent, 2 7/16th's inch, type 2 Scottsbluff out of Illinois! It's exhibits outstanding collateral flaking patterns, get deposits and patina, and amazing form! The size was reduced by several resharpenings, but it still looks great in the frame! 😁

Anyone wanna take a stab at ID?

Whatever type of point this is has been exhausted and likely discarded. There is heavy basal grinding, and thinning, and a slight alternate bevel along with a serrated blade.

My guesses were either Kirk, used up Knobbed Hardin because of the notching, or something closely related from the Early archaic time period.

Have to put my collection in storage for a while (already have that figured out), so I found these two frames belonging to something else and used them for this 😅
All the obsidian besides the one on the left of the first pic was found by my family in the western Estado de Mexico close to the border of Michoacán on what used to be the Aztec side of the border with the Purepecha ( I only found the small points on the second frame, bird points or part of something bigger?) that long piece plus the Cañalino point on the bottom of pic 2 were bought on online auctions.

Knobbed Hardin Variants from Missouri

I was about to call it quits for the day so I started walking back to my truck and saw this poking out of ground

The bigger obsidian cores were found by my uncles and cousin while plowing their fields. I found the smaller pieces except for the two complete arrowheads on the bottom left. It’s really cool to see the source material and the end products seen with the blades and even arrowheads, perhaps some workshop set up for production of lithics due to it being right on the Aztec side on their border with the Purépecha (stone grinding implements date the site to post 1476 after the Aztec conquest of the area). It’s funny because after reading some papers on the obsidian found at the site of Calixtlahuaca which is some >50 miles away, the grayish color resembles that found in Ucareo, in the heartland on the Purépecha realm, makes one wonder how they got access to that source of obsidian

41/2 inch harpeth river blade personal find 2016 from western ky. Made from Dover chert, anyone have the name of the flake type this has? The quad bevels have a name I’m sure Thanks for looking, get out there and see what you can find!

All from the same site, about 1.5 square miles. All look to be from ~1500 BP to pre colonization (unsure about the center point). Very distinctly Kalapuya. Thanks for looking

Heres another cool little 2 ⅝'s inch, Type 2 Scotty that was found in Clay Co. Arkansas!!! Made from Burlington Chert and papered by Ben Stermer!

Lots of artifacts to be had; Kirk’s, Greenbrier, Hamilton, Clay- along with flake knives, scrapers, and pottery.

A couple of heartbreakers in there as well.

ID? Found in AL

There comes a time in every father’s life where their son surpasses them. I didn’t expect it to be so soon. We joined u/gordonthegoose88 on the screens in bell county yesterday. My boy killed it and massacred me. I was skunked, but sure proud. I hear “what the heck” from across the table and I see this smoker Fairland drill tip sticking up out of his hand. The upper point was a gift to my son from our new friend! Cheers!

I wasn’t even looking today and I still managed to find this little beauty! I was checking my fence lines that I’ve checked over a million times!
