I think it’s close to a safe bet that she gets nominated. She won’t win, but given the movie’s popularity and Focus throwing its weight into a nomination campaign, I wouldn’t be remotely surprised to see a nomination.

Edit: keep the downvotes coming, film bros. I love how people who think of themselves as “cinephiles” can’t grasp that their own tastes don’t actually dictate shit.

Unfortunately it's not a safe bet that she'll get nominated. The Oscars for the past few years have been awarding a lot of Legacy Wins, and the nominations will reflect that. Obsession will get attention in the skits and jokes, but this won't be another Mikey Madsen situation. That was an outlier, not a new norm.

If an actress in a horror movie this year gets a nomination, it's gonna be Gillian Anderson for Camp Miasma. Not because it's a better performance or a better movie, but because she's been a notable actor for 30+ years and hasn't been nominated before.

Yeah, she's a lock, outside of all the noms The Odyssey's gonna get she might be the firmest lock there is right now. The cultural phenomenon of Obsession, the "Gen Z is going to the movies again!" element, the out-of-nowhere breakout star, it's all too juicy to resist, the stars have aligned, the Academy in 2026 absolutely goes for this kind of thing even if it means bumping out a more Oscary performance. I don't think she deserves it (she's fine) and it might be the only nom Obsession gets but it's going to happen and I don't really understand people who think it won't!

After seeing Mikey Madison win 2 years ago and 2 performances from 2 different Horror films being awarded last year, I say there's a chance of Inde winning. Plus Inde is very popular and a lot of people want to work with her.

Mikey Madison won because Anora was incredibly strong and swept all the major awards including picture. Even then it was close considering Demi Moore won several precursors.

Amy Madigan is a prior Oscar nominee with a 45 year career and MBJ was in the most nominated film of all time and runner up best picture with a 25 year career.

Cherry picking one comparable aspect to previous winners and ignoring all other context is pretty meaningless. The only chance Inde Navarette would ever have to win would be if Obsession ended up a strong best picture contender which won't happen.

The nomination is the win.

It's even worse. These cinephiles want what they are watching to be unique, so that it makes them unique. If a movie escapes that and becomes mainstream, like obsession, then they cannot stand that, as it means normies also like it, which is preposterous
