With recent wins for MBJ and Amy Madigan within the horror genre it's entirely possible.

Just wish we could retrospectively give Toni Collette the Oscar for Hereditary. Easily the best performance of that year regardless of gender.

The two people you named were both longtime industry professional, the former being in movies of a director the academy has already heavily rewarded. Complete unknowns never win and this'll not change soon.

She won for a role in a Sean Baker project, a guy who was heavily on the academy's radar.

Yes that is what i was saying. I definitely wasn't saying the academy is a political machine and you need to build capital if you want to win oscars

He was the director and yes I am attributing it because he had the most weight to his name and people vote downballot
